An Expensive (and Meaningless) Experience
When I first tried this fragrance, my initial association was: rest stop soap. Although the notes (and especially the price) promise opulence and luxury on paper, what ultimately radiates from my skin is surprisingly mundane.
The top note opens with a floral bouquet that initially suggests the expected elegance. The Damask rose is extremely present. Iris and hyacinth enhance the impression of powdery floralness. At the same time, the scent remains very "meaningless." It is nice and light, but it lacks the personality and that little something that captivates you immediately.
In the heart of the fragrance, the fruitiness of the apricot and the sweetness of the May rose should make the scent more interesting and richer. In reality, the apricot comes through only very subtly, while (presumably) the May rose continues to emphasize this clean, soapy component. In the background, I think I can recognize the patchouli, which adds some depth. But it is so restrained that it grounds the scent only minimally. The heart thus appears rather homogeneous and a bit boring, lacking the tension one would expect from a fragrance with this composition.
The base note, on the other hand, is somewhat more interesting. Even if only subtly perceivable. Oud, amber, and vanilla could create an oriental-warm and sensual finish. As I said: "Could." Oud is only hinted at and brings a certain heaviness behind the fresh flowers that feels slightly musty. By no means super oudy or animalistic, just lightly woody and musty. Unfortunately, I don't perceive amber and vanilla at all. There is no dramatic conclusion, but rather a gentle echo without fascination.
Now to the final word. The fragrance is pleasant, clean, and accessible, but especially for lovers of complex, profound scents (in my opinion) disappointing. My expectation of luxurious rose and oud notes is not remotely fulfilled by the soapy, neutral interpretation. Those seeking character and depth will likely be disappointed as well. The more I smell it, the more the fragrance reminds me of the soap in public restrooms at rest stops. Somehow clean and friendly, but not quite as good as at home. For such a fragrance, the price (35 bucks for 2ml) is unfortunately completely inflated, and at least in pictures, the bottle does not appeal to me at all.
