Among Initio's least inspiring products
I commonly hear people falsely extend criticisms applicable to Parfums de Marly onto Initio and among those criticisms is product unoriginality. However, to me, that criticism has always been a weak one for Initio as the catalogue at large doesn't produce copycats. In many cases, the critics even intentionally act obtuse as is the case for comparisons between Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum and Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum. However, with Power Self, the latest addition to the Hedonist collection, those inspirations are more evident.

Power Self has a fresh-floral opening where the white rose appears to be the leading note, reminding me of the hibiscus in Maison Crivelli's Hibiscus Mahajád. Given the Crivelli is primarily compared to Delina Exclusif, an accurate comparison at that, it shouldn't be a surprise that the comparison between Power Self and Hibiscus Mahajád is not 100%. Power Self is built on a structure of ambroxan and musk which leads to the key difference between the Initio and the Crivelli: the lack of overbearing vanilla. In terms of structure, Power Self doesn't feature any overlap with Initio's other Hedonist release with nothing that reminds me of Paragon or Musk Therapy Extrait de Parfum. The listed osmanthus isn't bringing any fruity tones and the musk used here comes off different to the one in Musk Therapy. I find the dry-down to be very floral forward, but due to the freshness of the profile, that is a driving force behind the comparisons to Delina La Rosée.

As it relates to the other aspects of Power Self, I get average longevity in the 7 hour range with sillage pretty standard as well. The scent doesn't come off synthetic to me, even with the base being a combination of ambroxan & musk. The value is predictably underwhelming, even more-so now in 2025 when Initio has hiked the Hedonist prices to €280/90ml. These price hikes are also a driving force behind why Initio introduced 50ml bottles as the brand is slowly going out of affordability. But what Power Self signals the most is that the gap between Initio and Parfums de Marly might be shrinking with originality on a decline and the need to drive revenue through generic product on a rise.

For the Delina Lovers
As with Delina and all other heavily rose forward fragrances, on my skin I just get an underlying scent of bad breath, or rotting fruit is probably a more of an accurate description, that’s overpoweringly nauseating and migraine inducing. I can’t stand these types of scents and couldn’t be in the same room as someone wearing this. This type of rose really agitates me for some reason!

Power self (… and what a stupid name!) is very much a heavy, in your face rose, with osmanthus and a musky/creamy base. It reminds me of old ladies in the 80’s who would throw church tea parties in an old musky, damp hall. Identical to Delina. This is nothing like Hibiscus Mahajad or Atomic Rose which I have and actually like. I couldn’t wait to scrub this off my skin! Such a disappointment,

If you like any of the Delina’s, this is a scent for you.

Find the Power from within
Power Self is a celebration of well-being, positivity, and effortless inner confidence. I blind bought a full bottle before it even officially launched, and from the very first sprays, it immediately impressed me.

The scent is clean, musky, and full-bodied - luxurious, but approachable. I pick up notes of white rose, ambroxan, and just a whisper of delicate florals. Nothing is overpowering. The florals lift the musky base and make it glow. What I love most is how effortless it feels. Power Self doesn’t try to make you confident, it evokes that quiet, authentic power from within. It’s not about showing off or projecting self-confidence - it’s about genuinely feeling it.

It quickly became my go-to scent for weekend reformer pilates classes. It sits close to skin, doesn’t project too much, and feels like a little secret only I get to enjoy. It’s long-lasting and complex, revealing new layers from top notes to dry down - subtle nuances of delicate confidence that keep unfolding.

Luminous, refined, and surprisingly calming for a fragrance with such presence... Power Self is a mood, a statement, and a reminder that true confidence is internal, you just have to find and embrace it.

In no time, it became one of my top five fragrances. Even with a collection of over 150 full bottles, I keep reaching for it all the time. Power Self monopolized my days, and that, for me, is the ultimate sign of a fragrance that truly works :) my skin loves it, my nose is happy, and wearing it never feels forced.

It is so unique, so dear to my heart. I will cherish it forever.

I dont get it
First of all, the price.... The name doesn’t make sense, the hype doesn’t make sense, and the notes barely make sense for the most part. It is musky and soft and it does feel like a quality perfume, but there really isn’t anything special that warrants the price or attention TBH. I am getting a lot of a sweet, soft, and almost syrupy rose that is really nice with a hint of the pepper, but absolutely not better than musk therapy.

Performance is good in terms of longevity, but this is definitely more of a cozy skin scent experience. Musk therapy is one of my favorite perfumes and I have seen it get discussed a lot with this new release and it is probably because they have the same soft, elegant feeling. But power self does not compare at all, like this is not very special.

For a scent that has the word "power" in its name...
... you'd think it would have great projection, longevity, etc. but nope. This scent is a your-skin-but-better thing, amped up a bit more with some sweet and creamy florals. Magnolia is fresh, osmanthus has that honeyed facet, white roses are sweet and there's a very lovely, velvety and creamy part to it. The problem is... it's so faint and subdued! Although it's very elegant and sophisticated, it becomes a skin scent not even 30 minutes after applying it on your skin. Drydown is creamy and fresh florals paired with a musky skin scent. There's also that same synthetic DNA that all Initio fragrances have on me.

This screams designer and I just realized how it smells so similar to J'adore Parfum d'Eau. Both have that creamy, fresh floral accord although Initio has a bit more of a honeyed, warm facet to it due to the osmanthus. Initio's version also has pretty weak performance compared to Dior's version, which is surprising since J'adore is a water-based fragrance. I would definitely not pay the pricepoint for Initio's version. Sorry.

Nondescript fruity-floral-musk. Could easily see this being a feminine designer release, worth nowhere near retail price for the quality

Beautiful, light airy, sweet and delightful, but not as unique as the pricepoint would have it. Not strong either. Maybe if I find it on sale lol

Fresh-floral fragrance with *a lot* of overlap to Crivelli's Hibiscus Mahajad, but structured on ambroxan & musk instead of vanilla.

A sharp, musky floral with a little kick/intrigue from the pepper. Quite pleasant to wear, but it doesn't smell as expensive as it should.

Beautiful musky-woody scent with weak performance. Smells amazing but disappears too quickly for the price. Disappointing longevity.

White rose, clean musk and gentle ambrox — subtle notes turn into a celebration of inner strength and confidence.

Similar to Musk Therapy but with amped up white florals and rose. Leans feminine. Good for spring outings, or even weddings.

For a scent that has "power" in its name, you'd think it'd project, but no. Here, it's a your-skin-but-better floral, creamy thing.
