Japanese Perfume with Oriental Touch
In 2010, Issey Miyake released a winter variant of the well known summer scent L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme which got the additional denomination Noir Absolue. With L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Or Absolu they have released the 2011 follow up. Just like in Noir, the aquatic freshness was diminished. Instead of green and citric head notes (Yuzu, Verbena), there is something fruity-floral which should be tangerine. It contrasts beautifully against a dark tar-like note. With that, Issey Miyake strikes a similar note as Jean Paul Gaultier with Fleur du Mâle, but with much more discretion.
I like this somewhat dirty combination very well, although it hardly reminds me of anything golden. Generally speaking, they pulled off a feat by transmuting an aquatic summer scent into something more suitable for the colder periods. It works out!
Coming near the base the Gold variant seems to be a bit more woody and bitter than the current original L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme. This structure is appropriate for an autumn or winter fragrance. Due to the absence of the quite permeating aquatic aspect, the sillage is a little bit less than that of the original.
Just like the Noir Absolue, also the Gold Absolu is not that far away from the original L'Eau d'Issey. Again, Gold Absolue is a must have for all fans of L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme, for all others – no.
