Ah yes… this Gaultier Classique fragrance in the Wonder Woman edition was once again one of those scents I absolutely wanted to test (yes, also because of Wonder Woman), but I also assumed that testing it would turn out to be somewhat difficult, and yes, because it is indeed a women's fragrance. Okay, even though testing this time wasn't so hard, there were still hurdles and obstacles that had to be overcome.
First of all, there were several rows of fragrances in the store (with an aisle in the middle). I stood at one of the shelves and a staff member was standing far to my left (separated by the aisle, but of course with eye contact). I thought for a long time about whether I should dare to spray the fragrance on myself, but I had to take off my jacket for that, as I couldn't manage to roll up my whole arm with the jacket on. … I didn't dare to do that at first, walked over to the men's fragrances, took off my jacket there, and finally rolled up the sleeves of my sweater (when spraying a women's fragrance, every second counts; you can't waste time rolling up sleeves!). On my way back to this fragrance, I felt a sense of relief, as the staff member was now gone. But: I then noticed that I was standing at the wrong shelf; this fragrance was actually one shelf further back. Sighing and with my head almost down, I made my way to the next shelf and saw that the staff member was indeed not there anymore. Once again relieved, my hand almost reached for the bottle when that staff member suddenly turned the corner out of nowhere, just to stack more stuff on the shelves…
… do you see what kind of bad luck I sometimes have? :D
But, I did manage to get the bottle in my hand after all. So I turned my back to the staff member, quickly looked left and right to see if there were any other ladies nearby, sprayed the fragrance on my arm, and coolly walked away without batting an eye, heading back to the men's section to analyze the fragrance in peace :D
And here’s how the fragrance smells in my opinion:
The Fragrance:
The fragrance starts just as it is described in the fragrance listing: with a wonderful and not so synthetic lemon sorbet… um, I meant -note, which, as I said, smells pretty great. The ginger seems quite fitting for a summery fragrance, though it seems to come across stronger on a test strip than on the skin, but this can vary from skin to skin!
Then a sweet, floral note emerges. I find this note very pleasant. However, I can only guess and assume, as always, that these are probably the Tiaré flowers, as they smell quite different from, for example, jasmine. Neroli is also present, albeit a bit in the background, but occasionally noticeable. The jasmine tea, on the other hand, I can hardly detect.
Later, the fragrance continues to smell floral-sweet. Although you can still perceive a nice lemon sorbet scent up to the base, this note gradually fades away, which I actually find a shame, as it smelled so wonderful to me. But that doesn’t mean the fragrance gets worse because of it, as the floral and sweet notes continue to smell very nice.
In the later base, the scent continues to smell as described, but the sweetness becomes a bit "darker"... by that, I mean that the indicated musk now also comes into play. Although the fragrance also smells quite synthetic, it is not as bad as in some other fragrances.
The Sillage and Longevity:
The sillage is quite good. Even though you don’t leave a gigantic scent cloud behind, it still radiates strongly for a long time.
The longevity is also very good. The fragrance still smelled quite nice on my skin after twelve hours.
The Bottle:
Ah, what a bottle! No worries, this time I won't tell you how much I’d love to fondle the curvy bottle :D
The bottle is shaped like a female body with appropriate curves, is nicely designed, and feels good in the hand. The Wonder Woman edition has a chrome front, from which Wonder Woman seems to burst through. By the way, there is no cap. A beautiful bottle.
Man oh man, I know you must have rolled your eyes again when I told you about the hurdles I had to face because this is a women's fragrance. You probably say "no, that's not true!", but I know you think I'm a quirky freak, that's definitely the case!! I should whip you with Wonder Woman's lasso to… no wait, that sounds kind of double entendre… let’s just say I should gag and tie you up with Wonder Woman's lasso… hmm… that doesn’t sound any better either… :D
What I'm getting at? Wonder Woman's lasso is also called the "Lasso of Truth," as anyone who comes into contact with it inevitably ALWAYS tells the truth, making it impossible to tell a lie! With that, I could see what you really think of me *sigh* :DD
Anyway, the fragrance is well done. Although it has synthetic notes (which are mainly noticeable in the later base), they are not very disturbing; you can live with them, as the fragrance itself smells nice. Without this synthetic aspect, the fragrance would be even better! It may not be everyone's (or every woman's) cup of tea, but I find it very successful, especially for going out.
Only one thing makes me rather angry: Why do Gaultier's women's fragrances have to smell so much better than the men's versions? The Superman version may have a good start, but it smells unbearably synthetic later on. Here in the women's version, however, almost everything seems to be right again… *sigh*
So feel free to check out the fragrance, and for those who aren’t into comics or Wonder Woman, you can take a look at the Betty Boop edition, which is also a cult character.
