One Small Step Closer to the Throne
It's no secret that the original Scandal pour Homme wasn't that good of a perfume. It was synthetic, sweet, bland, and it just didn't really feel like a high quality, well-put fragrance. The flanker here, Scandal pour Homme Le Parfum, doesn't stray far from that either, but it is "better", to say the least.
The opening will still have some of the synthetic punch of the original, but toned down a bit. With Scandal pour Homme, the tonka bean sweetness would immediately push through, blending with the synthetic accord messily. But it's not the same with Le Parfum. Here, I get a much more prominent geranium, which gives the fragrance a spicy and citrusy undertone. It fits much better than the clary sage, in my opinion, as it doesn't blow things out of proportion. The little tonka bean that there is here smoothens things out with a mild creaminess. And as the fragrance settles, you get that woody, musky, slightly spicy vibe from the sandalwood. It does feel somewhat better blended than the original Scandal pour Homme, but I also seem to go nose blind to it much faster than with the original. While I would say that it does smell a bit nicer and better put than the OG, I'm still far from impressed. There's still that synthetic part in the background which just makes this a rather annoying scent. It's al worse when blended with some of that sweetness. And again, there's hardly any proper development, just like with the OG. The fragrance falls flat, staying largely the same from start to finish. Thankfully, quality/blend-wise, it's slightly better than the OG.
The longevity here does impress, though. The fragrance held on for about 10 hours on my skin, which is again, a bit better than with the original. Projection is also praiseworthy for the first two hours, leaving a nice trail behind and filling the rooms I entered. But after the first two hours, it was very tricky to tell just how much more was it still projecting. Since I went nose blind to it rather quickly, I needed a couple of friends to tell me from time to time if they could still smell it. But it seems that they also faced the nose blind issue, and after the first two hours, they could barely feel it anymore. But given how good projection was initially, I doubt that the fragrance became a skin scent so quickly after, so my nose blindness is to blame, and I'm sure that it was still fairly noticeable for those who weren't constantly around me and smelling it.
In terms of occasions where you could wear Scandal pour Homme Le Parfum, the same ones that applied to the original also apply here. Leisurely, daily wear, work, parties, clubbing... you could even rock it at more formal gatherings if you'd like (I wouldn't, though). It's a pretty versatile fragrance, and given its mild (but noticeable) improvement over the original, I'd say that it's much easier to wear to a broader selection of scenarios.
But still, I'm not a fan of this DNA. It doesn't smell terrible once it settles, but it certainly feels generic and boring in every way possible. It's better than the OG for sure - that geranium and sandalwood make for a slightly better impression. But it's far from "Yeah, I'm getting a full bottle" type of impression. So again, I don't think this is truly worth the money. Too boring, too generic, too "designer-ish"...
