A most surprising surprise or Do camels actually have lips

"Sample '

Standing in a huge cloud of the new Gaultier fragrance, I beamed at the saleswoman.

An elderly lady next to me just had a coughing fit.
"Young man, the whole street now knows what this perfume smells like. Why do they need "samples"? [

The saleswoman let out a quiet "Oh no".
I love talking about perfume. And at great length. You just shouldn't ask.

"Well, you know, it smells like any fresh eau de toilette in the air, on the test strip too. Only even more boring. On my skin, though, it smells like the beach.
Not like a coconut and pineapple beach, but like a salty sea breeze wafting in the scent of sun cream.
A dreamlike development. It really is as light as a breeze. Not too heavy or sweet. A dream. It was so unexpected that I can't believe it.
And the color, what's up with that anyway. In the photos it's an enchanting tourmaline green. This one is turquoise blue. Neon.

Perhaps I shouldn't have pressed the bottle to her nose to prove it.
The lady sneezed once more and disappeared towards the exit.

"There are hardly any testers left. The manufacturers are very strict. The saleswoman announced without blushing.

"I'm not buying a fragrance without having tested it first! I protested.
It was a bald-faced lie, but I really wanted my sample.
"Shelf life, sillage, second and fifth impressions. Sample ?

"Wow, unbelievable. Your camel friend was there on Saturday and left with half our stock of
Cosmetic samples. What does a camel actually need lipstick for?"
Slightly irritated, she pressed the desired sample into my hand.

"Thank you very much. That's really nice of you. Have a nice day too! I was delighted.

Now that I also have the bottle and can't use anything else at the moment because of my enthusiasm, I can tell you: That the longevity is good (about 7/8 hours) and the sillage too. It doesn't jump out at those around you, but wafts over to them lightly and unobtrusively.
The first to last impression is that the fragrance becomes increasingly beautiful, creamy and relaxing.

Since I can't wait until spring, I have declared the beginning of summer at ten degrees.
You shouldn't be petty about a few days.

You can always smell the sea, relaxation and vacation anyway.
Penetrating turquoise blue or not.

Bubblegumm takes over the Paradise Garden!

Do you know the fragrances that start off well, are partly liked and then take a negative turn?

When I saw this novelty in Müller, I thought: "Paradise Garden, look at me - what can I expect here..." and yes, I didn't have any great expectations because the designers are currently relatively monotonous and don't make me want to test them (at least not for me).
But I still wanted to test it and this was the opportunity.

Surprise - the start wasn't even bad, quite the opposite!
There's a fresh green-spicy, partly sweet (not too sweet or sticky) breeze.
For mainstream quite unusual & special (in relation to other current fragrances) I thought.
Even the almond-cinnamon (not listed?!) accents were not necessarily disturbing.
I noticed the synthetics more and more, but they were balanced (for the moment) and acceptable.

But then the picture changed.
In addition to nice coconut cream accents that make this "Paradise Garden" quite palatable, I could expect a bubblegum note, while the ginger was not recognizable to me.

And to be clear, I have nothing against bubblegum fragrances in principle - on the contrary, sometimes I like them.
But it has to fit in with the fragrance concept & expectations.

Over time, the bubblegum dominated and shower gel vibes were added and the fragrance was no longer my cup of tea.

Too bad, the beginning was nice & I think JPG's flacon designs are really cool.

Trouble in Paradise

A new JPG? And then created by Quentin Bisch? That should actually be something. At least in theory. After all, the brand is known for not churning out run-of-the-mill fragrances and Quentin Bisch has been on a roll with his nose for trends for some time now. I'll just briefly remind you of #ganymede and #lemaleelexir and many more The concept also makes sense: Le Beau as Adam in the Garden of Eden. Equipped with a fig leaf (i.e. after the "fall of man", when shamefulness entered paradise and the carefree time was over and before the Creator threw the two of them out of paradise), which is woven into the fragrance, as is the olfactorily obvious coconut water, which could convey small exotic paradise vibes. The rest? Ok - will have its reasons ... but an apple would have fitted the theme ;-)

In practice, this paradise is not quite as sensual, exotic and pure as one would have expected. The fragrance is at its best after an intense spray, with a remarkable appearance in the first few seconds. Coconut water, fig, fresh and fruity notes work wonderfully together here. After that, the EdP fades quickly, as if Adam had been kicked out of his comfort zone with a big kick. The fig seems more artificial and the coconut water is reminiscent of the starch from boiled rice water. The whole thing then goes in the direction of sweet children's porridge. Some people probably rightly perceive this as creamy. But I miss freshness, exoticism, sensuality or other positive attributes in the rest of the fragrance.

After that, the garden bobs along rather flatly without any wow factor, recognition value or summery ambitions. In terms of fragrance, it's almost a fall from grace and I think I wasn't the only one who expected more from paradise.

The best Le Beau plays in paradise

Ever since Le Mâle Le Parfum brought me here at the end of 2022 and got me really into perfume, JPG has had a special place in my heart.

It's just the brand I like the most; we can smell each other. I'm sure there were a few medicore releases (OnBoard, Aviator) that I got after the fact because of the new hobby, but they were just as quickly discontinued here in the souk.

The fact that I don't like a fragrance at all is rather rare with JPG so far. It happened with Le Mâle Pride Edition and unfortunately also with Le Beau Le Parfum, which brings me back to this review.

I really like the classic Le Beau, it's a simple coconut fragrance, but that's exactly what I like about it. I was really looking forward to Le Parfum, but then I realized that I don't like pineapple in perfumes at all. Headache potential. So unfortunately Le Parfum had to go to the souk.

So I was all the more excited about the new Le Beau Paradise Garden where the pineapple is fortunately (eureka!) omitted and a fig note is used instead.

And this fruity, sweet fig accompanies you from the opening to the end, even if it diminishes somewhat over the course of the fragrance. From the middle, the salty sea notes come through a little more, as does the creamy coconut. The fragrance does not change much until the end.

As in many LeMals, I don't actually detect any mint here, nor do I detect any spiciness from the ginger. What I do perceive is something fresh and "ethereal", which "opens" the nose and cools it down a little. I suspect that it is one of these two notes (or both in combination).

I describe it as Le Parfum without pineapple, but with fig and some salty sea breeze in the background, still bedded on coconut. Not quite as sweet as Le Parfum, as the fig also brings a certain sourness and thus captures the sweetness well. It is simply a fruity-sweet, sour-salty-creamy fig/coconut fragrance. Exotic, playful, just what I would expect from a Le Beau as a summer fragrance. I like it extremely well and after the disappointing EDP it is finally the upgrade to the original EDP that I had hoped for with the EDP.

Just as Le Parfum was an EDP, so is Paradise Garden. I tested it on the test strip on the first day in the morning and left it in the study. The whole apartment smelled of it when we got home that evening!
My wife asked: "Do we have any fruit that's starting to rot?" At first I couldn't place the smell, until the scales fell from my eyes: it was Paradise Garden in the room! And even if my wife's description might sound negative, the idea of sweet, juicy fruit that is already starting to ferment slightly and thus drifting into sourness is not such a wrong association to describe the scent of figs.

The test strip still smelled the same the next morning, and not just a little, but really intensely! I could smell it on my skin for 12+ hours, with very good sillage for the first 3-4 hours. I think that's extremely good for a summer fragrance, which is clearly inferior to the classic EDT Le Beau.

Paradise Garden is the best Le Beau for me and I'm seriously considering whether I'll even use the EDT now. If it's not 40°C on the beach for a swim, I honestly don't know where I'd be more likely to reach for EDT, because Paradise Garden is just as good in almost all other situations where the sun is shining.

For me, a successful release and the summer perfume 2024 and a strong upgrade to the EDT! My inner "JPG Bisch fanboy" is happy :D

Positively surprised...

After receiving the sample today, I'll tell you about my experience.
The top note is typical of the already familiar Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes. The heart note was a pleasant surprise. The fragrance became sweeter and fruitier, subtle but not overpowering. The pleasant coconut scent with sandalwood has a hypnotizing effect. You keep smelling it to see where the journey will take you. The base note is very warm and pleasant. You can smell coconut mint and fig with a woody scent. Although Jean Paul Gaultier fragrances are not really my thing, I am still pleasantly surprised.
