Great Allrounder
Kajal has more or less become my favorite brand over the past few years. While this brand doesn't release as much as others, the quality is really impressive, and especially the fruity scents totally match my taste. Here is a review of Kajal Homme, which I haven't had for very long. I tested this Homme and found it to be very good. Price-wise, this great fragrance can occasionally be found at good prices (about 40-50% below the MSRP of €210/100ml). A truly wonderful year-round scent that could definitely be called an allrounder. Since the freshness is somewhat limited, it doesn't quite fit for really summery temperatures, but otherwise, it's a fantastic scent that is versatile. Overall, this fragrance is hard to describe and difficult to categorize. It has no real twins and possesses a bit of many facets: great wood, a lovely aromatic spice, a pleasant not-too-strong sweetness, a lightly oriental DNA, and also a bit of citrusy, zesty freshness. It slightly reminds me of a fresher version of Pana Dora's Imperial Wood. Otherwise, I don't find the listed twins to be very accurate. The Spanish perfumer duo has done a great job here.
The bottle for this brand is a 10 with stars for me. Solid glass, a heavy noble cap with a great look, and the attached metal label is really beautiful. The liquid of the fragrance has a lovely brownish touch. The box is also pretty. It's not a problem that niche packaging is not used here.
As mentioned, the scent is rather complex and not so easy to describe. It’s a wild mix that doesn’t push too much in one direction. But it definitely has charm and will surely catch the attention of some people. The fruity-citrusy top note brings a pleasantly fresh vibe and keeps this scent on the simpler side in the first hours. Blackcurrant plays a significant role here, bringing a slightly berry-fruity vibe. Along with that, there’s a great pink grapefruit note that comes across as juicy-citrusy but also somewhat fruity-sweet. Mandarin is a bit subdued but could play a role. Following are spice and wood notes that have a slightly oriental touch, but not too much. A darker guaiac wood provides a great wood tone, which harmonizes well with a light oud touch and dark patchouli. Cardamom adds a wonderful sensual spice that is not too overpowering. In contrast to the slightly dark-oriental notes, there’s a clean mix of musk and cashmeran that keeps this scent soft and clean. Sandalwood also fits well with this combination, adding that lovely soft wood note. A bit of tonka and vanilla provide the sweetness. Everything is very well balanced so that this mix never leans too much in one direction. Very harmonious, and you don’t feel like you’re smelling this scent for the umpteenth time. Perfect for everyday wear due to this balanced DNA.
Performance is top-notch, as is typical for this brand. Longevity should be just over 10 hours, and the sillage is really strong in the first hours. The DNA is not overwhelming, making it very wearable in everyday life. However, due to its sensual charm, it can also serve well as an evening scent.
Not really a blind buy candidate. Not because it’s not appealing, but because the overall picture of this fragrance is rather wild and hard to categorize. Nevertheless, a really great scent from a brand that I highly appreciate.
