Dreamy, Soft Drydown - Opulent Floral Bouquet with Headache Risk Beforehand

Wonderfully beautiful in the drydown. Soft vanilla tonka bean and sandalwood, with a very light coconut note. Quite warm and cozy. Close to the skin. Creamy. The individual notes are all perceptible, but never intrusive, neither individually nor as a whole.

Unfortunately, the first one or two hours are exactly the opposite. Heavy, if not cloying, literally a bouquet. Perhaps more like the swamp from which the swamp lily comes?

Such a dense, heavy mishmash of the most diverse floral notes, it practically overwhelms you. Sometimes the warm drydown peeks through slightly, and for a brief moment, it’s a dream. Maybe for a moment you can even catch a hint of almond. But then it’s right back to the heavy floral bouquet that predominates most of the time, where hardly anything is perceivable individually. Sometimes it’s even slightly piercing, almost a bit like cleaning products. Or like a fabric softener or laundry perfume. But one that has been sitting on the bottom shelf of a small supermarket in an Italian mountain village for decades and has been forgotten there. Not unpleasant, but an 'old scent' and incredibly concentrated.

The heavy floral mix also somewhat reminds me of the smell in the villa of an old, wealthy great-aunt, originally from Venice, who emigrated to the USA and married a film mogul in the 1950s. Long since widowed, she takes a stroll through her Hollywood villa three times a day, trying to breathe some life into the oversized, opulent artificial floral arrangements in enormous white urns with this scent. Unfortunately, it smells rather musty and heavy.

I get a headache after 5 minutes. I don’t perceive bergamot and ylang-ylang at all.

Depending on the amount sprayed, after one or two hours, the pleasant, soft, creamy vanilla and tonka bean remain, lasting for several hours and making you want to keep smelling it.

They could have made two great fragrances out of this scent: a heavy, opulent floral bouquet for those who love to indulge in 50s Hollywood chic with an Italian twist. And a lovely, cozy, linear vanilla-tonka-sandalwood scent with a hint of almond and coconut. A dream - perfect for layering to achieve this scent.
