dusty pages and powder
i actually mistook this with The Silk Road from this collection at first, since my nose gets a lot of smoky/woody/leathery/earthy feels from this one. (I also have no olfactory touchstone for ink, so likely that's messing with my interpretation.) at first spray it smells much like a generic men's aftershave to my nose - kind of vintage, the kind of thing i might've smelled my dad wearing but without any specific memory attached. as it sinks and fades into my skin i get more powdery-floral notes, backed by a smoky-woody base. if you're chinese or chinese american like me, you've smelled this before, probably. it makes me think of a dusty office, plus my mom's old makeup powders, plus a tinge of my dad's cigarettes lingering. it's not something i want to wear personally, but is undeniably evocative and unique. unlike some of the others in this collection, this one doesn't project on me, but rather sits at skin level and warms into an intimate, dry musk over time.
