Mango, Middle Eastern Style

Quite an adventurous fragrance, but I love it. I read that this was inspired by Stephane Humbert Lucas’, “Soliel de Jeddah”. I can’t speak to that as I do not own a sample. But this is a tropical, sweet citrus fragrance. It is also somewhat sharp at the opening. The note that is most prominent to me, however, is that green mango accord which is very nice. I also feel as if there is coconut in here, although none is listed. The dry down goes many different directions, but I enjoy that. Not like anything else I own!

Tropical juice and the fly in the ointment

I bought it because I expected to find realistic fresh mango with greenish mango skin on a creamy woody base. The mango here is more similar to a tropical juice flavoring. Which is not bad if it was a bit more present and lasted longer. The downside for me is the strong oud, musk and modern amber base, which in my opinion too overpowering and generally unpleasant. I tried for one year to tame this scent in different weather conditions but it didn’t work out for me. But it was only 16 euros and my expectations unmatchably high.

P.S I gave the whole bottle to my mother and she gifted the scent in a few days to her friend.

Sophisticated and long lasting

This lasts all day and probably into the next. One spray is more than enough. More than three and you'd be abusing others around you. Beautiful heavy glass bottle and very affordable.

Top notes are of bergamot and orange, maybe some lemon. Then you get a strong powdery musky scent for the first 30 minutes. After that the wet green mango, soft wood and green notes comes out. If I had my choice in designing this fragrance the musk would be much more mild, it's almost overwhelming of all the other elements of the scent. It reaches the upper limit, but does not go over the top with the musk notes.
The scent really shines after you've worn it for a few hours. The musk calms down and a sweet creamy, almost candied orange starburst note comes out.

This is a sophisticated mature perfume, it's not playful or light but it is beautiful. It seems to be marketed to women, but I could see this leaning unisex and being worn by a confident metropolitan man.

The person I imagine wearing this, is a suit clad business man or woman. They're negotiating tough deals in the boardroom somewhere in a tropical location maybe in Miami or Sao Paulo. They work in an air conditioned office, but they want to smell of their tropical environment as they leave the office and head for dinner to have drinks with a client. The longer day and night goes on, the more the perfume mellows out and becomes a delicious soft woody and mango orange scent.

Tropical feelings with extra mango

From the first spray, you know which direction it's going in.
Tropical fruits, summer, good mood, that's all true here.

In the opening you get a slightly bitter orange in combination with lemon or bergamot, slightly bitter but also quite fresh.
After a few minutes, these two notes fade slightly into the background, leaving the mango to take over.
The orange continues to exude a slight bitterness and the lemon a pleasant freshness.
The tropical, sweet mango creates a beautiful, fruity, fresh and sweet fragrance that is really perfect for summer.

For lovers of mango fragrances, this could be an insider tip, as the mango is the most prominent note here for me.
The fruits in the fragrance are neither extremely natural nor super synthetic.
They remind me of fruit from a multivitamin juice.
It smells something like that, with a pleasant bitterness and quite "zesty".

Oud is listed here but I personally don't notice it at all.
Just as little as musk or amber.
You would probably even have to look for the jasmine first, only the fruity notes are really prominent and, as I said, especially the mango.

Even though I initially thought the fragrance might be too feminine, I would describe it as unisex.
It's a bit feminine, but I still wear it myself and don't find it too feminine or anything like that.

The performance is ok, my batch is from 07/2023.
The fragrance probably still needs time to mature, as we know from Lattafa.
But so far it has a pleasant sillage that is soft but easily perceptible.
Only very faintly perceptible on clothing after 5 hours, but occasionally I can still detect it very, very slightly even after 7 hours.

I don't know whether it's a dupe or Lattafa's own creation, but when I thought of Mango I immediately thought of "Fame | Paco Rabanne".
Since I still have a bottle of Fame, I was able to compare the two and they are definitely not similar.
The Fame is definitely much more feminine and not as fruity and zesty.

All in all, a good Cheapie that you can't go wrong with.

The mango fragrance I've always dreamed of...

For me, mango is a wonderful fragrance note in perfumes.
Whether green and rather fresh or soft, ripe and sugary sweet - mango is an "evergreen" and mood lifter for me.
Unfortunately, I have always been a little disappointed with fragrances. My beautiful mango was always lost. Either too sweet, too much flower or general fruitiness, too much baccarat rouge vibe or disturbing notes.
So I blindly ordered the Ajayeb Dubai Portrait and lo and behold?
There it is: the mango scent of my dreams.

In short: mango. Not crushingly ripe, more in the transition from green to ripe, with a slight freshness that resonates. Surrounded by blossoms which, as an exception, do not steal the show from the mango, but rather emphasize the lightness of the fragrance. Osmanthus brings this sweetness, which also gives the fragrance this tart-like quality. Jasmine is also quite present. Woody notes and a hint of oud (barely perceptible) give the fragrance a beautiful but exciting background for the presentation of my coveted mango.
The radiance of the fragrance is enormous for what it is.
The longevity is in the upper mid-range to "good" in my opinion.
Summer (!) and spring are its absolute time to shine, but I don't think it would not work at all in the other seasons.

As we all know, perception is very subjective, but the rating of 6.8 at the time of my review in no way resembles my personal perception.
Ajayeb Dubai Portrait is a real hidden gem from Lattafa.
