A great, fresh summer fragrance

Many thanks to Carsten for the bottling of Liam Blue Shine :-) This is a really nice, refreshing and fruity summer fragrance that is somewhere between Acqua di Giò Profondo (2020) Eau de Parfum, Bentley for Men Silverlake and Versace pour Homme Dylan Blue Eau de Toilette. The longevity on my skin is great at around 12 hours. In addition, the sillage is more than successful.

The top note starts very fresh, maritime and fruity-citrusy. Here I recognize lemons, bergamot, mandarins, a shower gel character and a subtle synthetic. The heart note smells spicy, green, floral, woody and herbal with aromas of pepper, mint, lavender, rosemary, iris, violet, clary sage, pine needles, cypress and fig leaves. The base has a sweet, woody and vanilla scent of amber, sandalwood, tobacco, balsam and some musk.

If you consider the price here, you realize how much you can get for little money - great!

Profondo? not quite. A little Essenza, perhaps?

For me, Profondo is an incredibly great nose flatterer and the most independent of the ADG flankers. This extremely fresh mandarin kick, simply wow. The trick of maintaining the ADG DNA despite the tangerine is what makes it so special for me.

At the end of 2023, I came across Liam Grey for the first time and noticed in passing that there is also a Liam Blue Shine. As a not-so-grey mouse, the Grey really stands out. Its popularity is certainly due to its role model and the reason why the blue shine is treated a little more neglected. The Profondo is not exactly a popularity monster.

Since, as mentioned above, I am not averse to the Profondo, the Liam Blue Shine also had to come to me.

The negative right away. The Blue Shine cannot live up to the high expectations I have of the fragrance. This is simply because it does not convey the fresh mandarin kick 1 to 1. It smells more synthetic and not so much like mandarin. I understand where the journey is going, but it doesn't quite get there. I wonder if that's what Lattafa wanted and if they didn't position Blue Shine somewhere between Profondo and the Essenza version. Something in the Blue Shine reminds me of the unfortunately discontinued ADG offshoot.

I think the Blue Shine maintains a certain independence from its role model, just as the Profondo does within the ADG range. As it is basically a very pleasant aquatic fragrance with ADG vibes, this makes Blue Shine very appealing. In addition, I personally remember Essenza as a very great variant. It was my signature fragrance for a long time. Unfortunately, Blue Shine did not have the potency of Essenza and is only slightly superior to its role model.

If you like the basic DNA of the fragrance, you can't go wrong with €22.
