Neroli makes it a no

I had very high hopes for Victoria after falling in love with Empire Victor from Khadlaj because the notes and inspiration appeared to be very similar - a lemony vanilla gourmand. Unfortunately for me, the beauty of this fragrance ends with the absolutely beautiful bottle that I fell in love with.

Victoria has a prominent Neroli note in the heart of the fragrance, which is the biggest differentiator between this and other lemon gourmands, and the neroli overpowers the vanilla to my nose. I have never been a huge neroli fan for some reason, so it’s not just this perfume.

If you enjoy Neroli, I think you will enjoy the airy, light lemon touch this has with the vanilla base. It screams spring to me and is under $40 most places. If you like neroli, I recommend reading other reviews online because the vast majority of people love this fragrance (especially if you like D&G Devotion) but it’s just not right for me! I won’t be purchasing a full bottle unless a miracle happens with my 5mL decant over the next few months, in which case I’ll provide an update.

Airy gourmand

Lattafa Victoria has been a blind buy of a late night retail therapy “session”and it’s been a lucky one. It’s belonging to the current trend of citrusy vanillic fragrances leaning gourmand. What makes it special to my nose it it’s airy quality- it spreads in the air in the most delicate way - thank you synthetics! - and that’s what makes it special and intriguing. lemon sorbet

I expected a lot from this product but unfortunately I am disappointed especially with its high price, the packaging is poor compared to the pride collection and the bottle itself being coated in gold that peels after the first use. It smells like lemon sorbet (trends towards the sour and not gourmand at all) then It has a prominent Neroli note which make it a fresh airy scent and not sweet-warm. It’s neither a dupe of devotion nor a gourmands. Maybe it’s need to macerate.

A Frag for my Girly Girls

First impressions after dabbing onto skin: a brief, sharp lemony flash, followed quickly by a floral that immediately reminds me of modern teenage-girl perfumes. Bright and very feminine. I’m no expert in botany (or perfumery... yet), but I initially assumed it was rose or some other pink floral. Turns out, it's actually neroli, but to my nose, it’s giving off pink, fizzy, sparkly vibes more than white florals.

When I ordered this sample, I was under the impression that Victoria was going to be a gourmand scent. I mean the top note is literally pie. But this is not a gourmand. There’s no dessert-like richness here. It’s just straight-up bright floral citrus. I don’t get any vanilla yet, we'll see in the drydown.

I haven’t smelled the fragrance this is supposedly duping (Dolce & Gabbana Devotion), so I can’t compare the two yet. But in the spirit of growing my nose and understanding profiles, I’ll try the og someday. That said, this scent is youthful, feminine, and not at all masculine. It’s not a bad scent. It’s inoffensive, wearable, and has great projection. But it’s not for me.

This is exactly why I should remind you to buy samples and dabbers first. I nearly blind bought a 100ml. It is not an expensive frag, but just the sheer amount of juice I would have to use would last me an eternity.

(Fake) Bonus points for the gorgeous bottle. Shame the juice inside didn’t match what I was hoping for.

Sophisticated Elegance

I really enjoy several gourmand fragrances, but I prefer them to smell more like a lovely perfume rather than actual food. I was a bit hesitant to try Lattafa Victoria because I'd heard comments about it smelling like "lemon meringue pie," which didn't sound appealing to me. I'm also not a big fan of D&G's Devotion, as I find the lactonic note to be a bit sour for my taste. However, I'm so happy to say that Victoria is even better than the original! It has a beautifully sophisticated and elegant blend of billowy lemon and sweet, soft vanilla.
