A good "starter/cleaner" oud ?
I need to preface this by saying that I absolutely love the original Vanille Havane with a passion, so when I had the opportunity to blind-buy a bottle, I didn’t hesitate.

In my opinion, this fragrance serves as a great introduction to oud, primarily because it lacks the fecal undertones that can sometimes be present in other oud perfumes while still being a bit animalistic. The oud is most prominent in the opening (1 hour on me) and cleaner than what I'm used to, with very little Vanille Havane at first, which was somewhat disappointing. I found this surprising, considering it’s supposed to be an iteration of VH. However, as it dries down, the Vanille Havane subtly makes its presence known, coming in and out while the oud ties everything together.

I enjoy the scent, but I do miss the amazing gourmand richness of the original.
Should you buy it? Honestly, I’m unsure.
Is it better than the original? I don't think so.
Do I regret my purchase? Not at all. While it’s less impactful than I anticipated, it’s still an amazing fragrance.

Oud without much Vanille Havane
The origins of this special edition of Vanille Havane, according to the brand, was a rare piece of oud heartwood from the cellar of a Middle-Eastern collector, sourced from a private plantation in Cambodia. The perfumer, Antoine Lie, came up with the idea to take the existing base of Vanille Havane Eau de Parfum and add oud oil extracted from this source.

To be 100% honest, I think he got overexcited and went a bit too far with the oud accord. It is undoubtedly a high quality oil and potent albeit not-too-offensive accord, but the facets of the original Vanille Havane are missed here. I get a bit of vanilla and cacao but it seems the woody aspects of the oud have trumped the subtle tobacco present in the original. Which is a shame, because I was expecting this fragrance to have the sweetness from the original and the pungent oud in equal parts, the dichotomy of which I enjoy in fragrances like Le Gemme - Orom or Sultan.

The smoky resinous aspects of this fragrance remind me a lot of Amouage. If I could describe it using other fragrances, I'd say it's at the intersection of Opus XIII - Silver Oud, Overture Man and Jubilation 40. The oud present is similar to that of Silver Oud, the fruity resinous aspects are similar to Overture, and the woody drydown is like that of Jubilation 40 (although more potent). It makes for a great experience, especially since I am fans of all three of those fragrances, but it just wasn't what I was expecting.

I'm not usually one to talk about maturation after bottling, but I have heard that vanilla aromachemicals become stronger in a fragrance over time. Maybe it will improve over the next few months before this winter when I am looking forward to giving this more wear time, but if it stays as it is, it is definitely not bad.

Vanille Havane 2.0 The Revenge
Sneaking a sneak preview at Esxence 2024, it enraptured me.
Take the base of regular Vanille, and add a nice touch of natural Oud cambodi taken from a private plantation (hence the limited run), with its woody, slightly animalic and smoky characteristics. The oud here counterbalances the original sweetness of the base version and makes it less sweet and more woody aromatic.
I liked it very much. Price a bit high but for lovers of Oud and amber vanilla tobacco scents, it is a must. Limited edition of 500 pieces.

Do you always have to milk the cow as long as it gives milk...?
Hello everyone,

i have to admit that I spent many weeks and months thinking about whether I should ever write something about this or not. But at the end of the day, I see it as my duty somewhere and it's not even pleasant when someone lets go of a proper, fair and serious "constructive criticism", that would be my way of thinking.

That the Vanille Havane Eau de Parfum + the Vanille Havane Extrait Absolu have become so successful in proportion - is perhaps due to me even if it is only minimal and YES I think both are great and this statement will still be made by me today in 2025.

Now we come to the actual topic, the Vanille Havane Coeur de Oud ...

We have the EDP here at maybe 60% - 65% and so far all good, BUT....

Do you really always have to milk the cow for as long as it gives milk? Should that be the case and has it really got you?
Are you as good as the other two or even better...?

The answer is NO!

From a purely commercial point of view, I can even understand the "move" with limited and "special edition", but does it justify it... - difficult topic!

The fragrance is good, doesn't offend, nicely smoky, leathery, no animalic but dark wood. But somehow I was expecting more. When I got the message, I was very INTERESTED and after x tests I was.... glad that I didn't get it!

I think it's sweeter than the other two, but I'm not a reference when it comes to sweetness anyway, as I don't really like that kind of thing. But I suppose they wanted to make it more "mass compatible".

The H/S is good+ and on a similar level to the other two. and it is also very similarly well received/ well received, so don't expect any improvement in that respect!

Whether you need it - rather no, but I do NOT see it as a mistake to get to know it.

I hope I was able to give you an understanding of the fragrance...

And now have a nice day/evening, or whatever you read this review, LG the Benny

Beautiful. Exits the gate with entry-level oudy sweetness. Resembles the original once the dry down starts. A pity this is limited release.

First impressions: nothing like the original VH, strong smoky Amouage-like oud presence. Lasts forever on skin, projection lacking

Superb quality. Richness, sweetness of vanilla + cocoa grounded and smoothed out by smoky leathery oud. Cozy, with surprising sillage.

Amberwoody mess in the mid-base is droning out everything else. Oud is there, though. Saddening experience, considering the recognition
