Oud Silk Mood Maison Francis Kurkdjian 2013 Extrait de Parfum

Rose, Rose, Headache, Rose... some oud and smokyy soap.

What a waste of money. Sad I didnt try the other two. The original is way better and has a harmonic attitude. This stuff is so strong and heavy, everywhere you go you will offend others.

I guess some older arrogant ladies with a hardcore powder rose addiction will buy this. For me a no go and a bit hard to my nose and head.
This scent is good if you want others to know you are in the room or better Hotellobby! Lasts up to 10 Hours on Clothes. Again, be careful with the dose you use. Heavy, smokey stuff Mr. Kurkdjian.

overall Score 1/10 ( nice bottle and package ). I wish i could master this Scent, but I guess that needs someone with a blocked nose and the will to hurt others. Sorry.

Smelling this side by side to Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady these feel very similar. Portrait of a Lady has some spice in there that this does not, and that feels like the main difference.

This one is tough, I've never tried Satin mood but I own Oud Extrait. These are so similar, except this has more rose. I have to assume that Satin Mood is very similar as well.

For my money, Oud Extrait is better, and if you want something with rose, Portrait of a Lady is better.

Oud silk mood is the second oud perfume by MFK that i can try. The first was oud satin mood and i found that one very nice. But this one is not really mu cup of tea. And not because of the quality, only because i orefer the sweet and almost gourmand rose/oud than the greener and drier rose oud combis like this one. The oredominant note here for me is the rose, but is not a powdery rose, i find a bit harsher than usual. Slowly appears the oud giving a soft medicinal vibe, but a very soft and subtle oud, not fecal or intense. And the papyrua and the camomille give to the fragance a herbal, dry and a bit creamy character. The dry down is more powdery. OSM remember me to shades wood by ARMAf or to rose oud by monotheme.
The performance is good, It has a very good longevity and a moderated sillage. It is unisex for me and probably better for night because of the intensity of the rose, although i think It could be weareable during the day on winter or fall.

...then it could only be MFK. So it exists after all...an Oud fragrance that I like...and how!!!
The hardcore Oud fans, for whom Oud cannot be too dark, too animalistic, and who see it as THE savior in a fragrance, might now wrinkle their noses in disdain and say that this is more of a rose scent than an Oud perfume...that may well be true...but for me, it’s just the right (childlike?) dose:-)!

OSK is the absolute dream of a perfume...I loved this kind of rose in Lumiere Noire and still do! Here it comes across a bit "brighter" without being cloying, artificial, or even feminine. Oud is creamy, soft, and sweet from the very beginning in a way that feels new to me and is clearly noticeable. Nevertheless, OSK is not a heavy scent...on the contrary...something fresh is always present...without being able to precisely identify which note is responsible. Just in the last few months, there have been countless rose-Oud fragrances...all of which have bored me to death...they all smelled the same...none were bad...but none had a distinctive characteristic. Here we have the addictive combination of a rose blend (Gris Montaigne and Lumiere Noire) and an Oud that is absolutely crowd-pleasing and sexy. It doesn’t get much better than this...I didn’t think there would ever be an equal rival to Gris Montaigne...OSM stands on exactly the same level. Even after hours, this beautiful scent envelops you...delighting you and making you want to smell your wrist again and again!

For some, this is typically MFK too smooth, without edges and corners...but compared to Rose d'Arabie and its ilk, it has character, not just wanting to smell/appear expensive and exclusive. It’s all about the wearer...and their comfort while wearing it...uncomplicated...never the wrong choice for any occasion or season, which surprises me quite a bit for such a fragrance...this afternoon, at 27-28 degrees in the sun, it was easy to wear...on the contrary...it was a great pleasure when a subtle scent cloud wafted through the air with the light breeze, caressing the nose. The longevity is excellent at over 10 hours, and like with Lumiere Noire, the scent becomes more beautiful and lighter over time...a mega feel-good fragrance...how must it be in the cool autumn or winter?

For me, just like with Gris Montaigne and Lumiere Noire, it gets the absolute highest score and a crystal-clear recommendation to buy. I need this fragrance starting in autumn, even if the price (70ml/306€) is almost despair-inducing and shatters my price ceiling for perfumes...maybe I’ll bridge a certain time with decants, as one spray lasts all day...but I simply have to have it...I LOVE IT!!!!!

Magical, sexy, enchanting...DIFFERENT!!!

Commenting on this fragrance - that is truly no easy task. In fact, it’s damn hard. On the way to putting thoughts and feelings into words, there are so many contradictions. But I’ll just dive in …

It starts with the fact that MFK has a brother of this fragrance on the market - "Oud Satin Mood" - thus creating a comparison, if not a direct competition situation. I have tested both again and again, and my first impression (from 2017) has held up to this day: I like Oud Silk Mood significantly more, I consider it the stronger fragrance (in terms of sillage and longevity), and for me, it is the more wearable rose scent for men. With these statements, I distance myself from some impressions I’ve gathered online, and it’s clear that some Parfumo users feel quite the opposite. Not least in the ranking here, if one cares to pay attention to that, Oud Satin Mood is ahead. As I said, I see it a bit differently.

I find the message in Oud Silk Mood clearer. Here we have a rose that, for me, stands out more clearly and distinctly from the very beginning and has a certain depth. Depth should not be confused with heaviness; it remains a light yet intense veil of fragrance with outstanding sillage and excellent longevity. The oud never takes center stage; it helps to give the rose a clear direction and thus support. So the whole thing is a bit less flowery-sweet and more forceful (especially at the beginning), louder, more determined. Still light and rosy-sweet, but by no means as soft, sweet, diffuse-dreamy, and above all not as soapy as Oud Satin Mood. And that makes it, for me as a man, the crucial bit more wearable.

"Wearable" as a man. Yes, that’s the next point. It’s already on the edge. Oud Silk Mood smells incredibly romantic to me. If romance had a fragrance, it would probably be like this. The romance it exudes has a somewhat unisex-intimate, yes, truly erotic quality. I find it extremely private. So where do you wear this as a man? On a warm summer night on the balcony. Under a bathrobe. Or maybe even directly in bed. For me, it’s definitely not a fragrance for mundane occasions. Not one for everyday life. Not one for leisure, yes, most likely one for a romantic candlelight dinner. In short: It demands intimacy. That moment when two souls are extremely close, merging together. Also physically. Then, yes then, I think you can wear it very well as a man. Then it fully expresses its sensuality, its seduction. Then it is truly a fragrance of love, of pure romance.

I love the scent of roses so much that it drives me to turn over every stone that promises to make rose a prominent fragrance note for men. I tell you, it’s a journey like the one Odysseus must have gone through (if I were to start now …). So far, I have identified Lumiere Noire, also by MFK, as the purest and most wearable rose fragrance possible. Compared to Oud Silk Mood, it works significantly better in everyday life and is much more versatile. I’m not at the end of my journey yet, just so much to say: Oud Silk Mood is one of the absolutely most beautiful rose fragrances I have come across. And it is wearable for men.

Finally, one question remains: Is the Extrait necessary, or does the perfume suffice? Again, not an easy question to answer. I find the Extrait to be a notch denser and more beautiful than the Eau de Parfum. However, compared to this slight push towards the perfection of this composition, the Extrait is also significantly more expensive. If fate hadn’t granted me a pretty good deal that allowed me to own a bottle of the Extrait - I probably wouldn’t have bought it and would have settled for the EdP. But I can say that the Extrait transforms the extremely beautiful rose of the EdP into a complete one, as I have never encountered it more beautifully, so rosy-pure. This means: despite the high price, a 10 out of 10 for this fragrance. For this breathtakingly beautiful, sensual, romantic rose.
