Into the woods
After sniffing through a few Aoud fragrances from Montale, I must say this one is my favorite.
Although I find the name a bit misleading.

In fact, there isn't much to notice from the "Flowers"; they fade away after a while, or rather, they recede into the background so much that they are more to be sensed than smelled.
The various woods come to the forefront so strongly that nothing remains of the little flowers, and the musk keeps everything nice and soft and creamy; I couldn't perceive the bitterness that my predecessors mentioned here.

The scent accompanied me throughout a whole workday and was still noticeable at home in the evening, without reapplying, mind you!

Although I thought that overly woody fragrances wouldn't suit me, this one proved me wrong.
Definitely worth a test!

Stuck in the Waiting Loop!
I have to admit, I love the Micallef Oud fragrances. I enjoy their softness, sweetness, and the great cuddle factor. With Aoud Flowers, I somehow expected a mix between Oud and Floral from Micallef. A big - very big - mistake.

Aoud Flowers has not only nothing, but absolutely nothing cuddly about it. The opening comes across as very alcoholic and piercing to the nose, with a beige scent reminiscent of vinegar. Just sour.

Even when a bit of green-herbaceousness comes in - I assume it's the bergamot - it remains very fresh, very green, and sour. Much later, I can also perceive a tiny bit of rose, which unfortunately is almost completely overshadowed by this sour note.

The fragrance also refuses to show any other note on my skin, and I feel like I'm stuck in a waiting loop. Is there more to come, or is that it? It simply becomes more and more bitter, woody, but retains that unpleasant sour note. There is no balance to it, and I was very glad when the scent disappeared after 7 hours, as it was very noticeable even from a distance throughout the entire time.

Maybe I had the wrong expectation. Maybe my skin chemistry highlighted this sour note even more. This fragrance is truly only for real lovers of bitter, green, hardly floral scents, and I would definitely not consider it a women's fragrance or unisex fragrance.

Harmony of Rose and Oud!
Pierre Montale has been accused of repeatedly launching new fragrances in the Oud line that only differ from one another in nuances. This is true for some fragrances in this line - including Aoud Flowers - but less so for others.

To get straight to the point - Aoud Flowers comes very close to the epitome of a Rose-Oud perfume. Rose and Oud are both prominent, yet very balanced against each other; everything else is secondary: The geranium perhaps modifies the rose into a brighter accord, but does not appear independently. Wood is present and noticeable, but harmoniously integrated, far from the intensity of a Black Aoud. The light citrus note in the top makes it all quite piquant. It is also worth mentioning a bright musk accord in the background that contributes a certain softness.

As with other ouds from Montale, one must endure a sharp hairspray note in the first minutes after spraying, which quickly dissipates and clears the way.

Aoud Flowers is fundamentally a very dark fragrance. Despite the floral notes, it is not sweet at all. Instead, a certain citrus bitterness is very present for a long time. The proximity to Black Aoud and Steam Aoud is unmistakable. Montale describes this composition as masculine on the verge of femininity.

Rose seems to be a shy deer. During the scent development, it steps back a bit, and the fragrance becomes more bitter.

Personally, I would prefer Aoud Flowers to the well-known Black Aoud because it is not quite as extreme and the woods are more bearable. I am undecided about Steam Aoud. While Steam Aoud offers a very nice dry spiciness, Aoud Flowers can score points with the depth and tranquility that the rose radiates. Aoud Flowers is the perfume from the Oud line that comes closest to the highly elegant dark rose perfume “Black Tie” by Washington Tremlett among those I have tested so far. However, it does not quite reach its elegance for me due to the earthiness of the oud, but also because of the existing citrus bitterness.

My recommendation: Those who want to test the Montale ouds and are more interested in dark men’s fragrances should consider Aoud Flowers as one of the most typical Rose-Oud scents.

Woody dominant + strong blunt wax rose + sparkling geranium: Softly woody-soapy rose + geranium in the finish.

A pretty nice variation of rose-oud with the addition of various other flowers and woods. The deviation from the standard avoids boredom.

Fantastic execution of Arabic classics Rose&Saffron&Oud! Fascinatingly elegant, captivating, and easy to wear. More subtle than "Aoud Rose Petals".

I would say, if you want just one Montale, then this one. Best longevity. Floral-woody, works all year round.

Something like classic Opium. Very bitter, intense, yes somewhat woody. Didn't find any flowers! Not for me. Better to test it first.

Rosewood (herb and sour) and rose take center stage. Geranium and bergamot support. Way too aggressive and loud.
