A beautiful summer fragrance!
Montale's Herbal Aquatica is one of the nicest niche fragrances for the hot summer times i have tested. For me (as also seen in the similarities) it comes close to Xerjoff's Erba Pura especially in the opening, but as it develops it appears with a bit more herbal and sweet tone. The scent is described exactly like the title suggests, it clearly has herbal notes, which are very pleasent and not pungent att all, these notes are accompanied by marine notes and bergamote, which really fit together nicely in a somewhat symbiotic way, completing each other in their smell, creating a very well put together scent. The scent as a whole therefore feels really light and sweet. The longevity is above-average with a fragrance-oil proportion of 40%, which is really good for fragrances in the range of 100-150€ (per 100ml).
I can really recommend going into a niche perfumery and go see for yourself. I love this fragrance and can't wait for summertime to wear it!

… where langoustines - drum on crusts …
That aquatics in the mainstream often come across as far too soft, synthetic, and shower-gel-like is well-known to anyone who has spent more than five minutes with perfumes. However, that some niche aquatics can also be just as challenging due to extreme algae, seaweed, salt, or even more intense scent impressions - one can come to this realization just as quickly. “Herbal Aquatica” by Montale attempts the balancing act - and does so as an extremely accessible and almost fruity-gourmand niche water man… Has it been washed damn well? Or does this combo sink?

“Herbal Aquatica” has strong parallels to “Erba Pura,” but the successful Xerjoff has become such a memorable power fruit aquatic and bestseller that one sees similarities almost everywhere (similar to how Ford’s “Oud Wood” or his “M7” have shaped oud or Guerlain’s “Vetiver” has defined vetiver). Nevertheless, the similarities here are particularly hard to overlook. Only very late, in its final phase, does it become the king of the surf for me. It swishes and swirls as if Poseidon himself has taken the helm. And still in a highly pleasant way, that’s the art! I really like that! Before that, however, I have some issues with its bubblegum-like moisture. I had the same with Xerjoff’s hit. It’s as if you’re in a fruit punch in the Mediterranean. And the water splashes into the bowl! Not bad, but close! Still, one must say: “Herbal Aquatica” will manage the balancing act for most, it could make aquatics socially acceptable. Or at least contribute to that. Its hairspray apple (?) is a shaky candidate, though. Along with its spicy green, its dessert creaminess, then the sound of the sea paired with (in the worst case) caramel. The line between cacophony and symphony is indeed thin… Sandalwood and vanilla must first be interpreted aquatically and still remain mass-market friendly. Even if not every ace up my sleeve works for me. A bit of the Disneyfied ocean.

Bottle: inconspicuous as always with Montale, but the color choice fits
Sillage: potent without burning
Longevity: much longer than the aquatic average (8-11 hours)

Conclusion: one of the tastiest and more gourmand aquatics out there. I prefer to enjoy my dessert with a sea view, not directly in the sea…

Montale Herbal Aquatica a fragrance twin?
Hi, I was looking for a floral scent that still smells masculine. I was about to buy Pura Erba by Xerjoff when Montale was recommended to me as a fragrance twin. I must add that I have only smelled Erba Pura on the tester. In the top notes, both smelled similar. It’s probably due to the Calabrian bergamot. The base notes of vanilla and amber are also identical. But I would need to buy and wear Erba Pura to explore the parallels over a longer period. I have no reference to declare Montale as a fragrance twin. I hope someone in the community has both scents and can evaluate them.

I am very satisfied with the scent. It is fresh and aquatic, and the sillage is truly remarkable. It is still good to smell after 7-8 hours. Best regards

Wait a moment, I know this one!
Recently, in the perfumery in front of the Montale shelf, a woman next to me sprayed a fragrance on a testing strip. I thought to myself, "Wait a moment, I know this one!". I had to think for a moment about where I recognized it from and then orient myself whether we were in front of the Montale or Xerjoff shelf. When I asked the lady which fragrance she had used and she showed me Herbal Aquatica, I had to test it on my skin. And there, the almost identical notes in the opening from Erba Pura were very clearly noticeable. This carried through until the end. A hint of freshness and a little bit of typical Montale DNA was added. This is what subtly distinguishes it from Erba Pura. I find it more pleasant. But I still prefer to smell both on others rather than on myself. Both somehow feel too overloaded for me.

Another "take" on the Erba Pura DNA
As mentioned in the title, it's a take on Erba Pura's DNA, and it seems like Montale thought, "hey, everyone is doing it, why not us?"
So I've had this fragrance for about more than 2 months now, and I find it phenomenal. Imagine Erba Pura but less sweet, more "masculine," and balanced-nothing is off, everything is in harmony. It lasts a very long time, and the scent feels like it becomes more and more amazing over time. It has an incredible sillage, and the green tea note is very well done. It's simply phenomenal.

Very nice scent. It smells a little bit like erba pura but with another Twist. More fresh than erba pura so its perfect for very warm days.

After a fresh and herbal spicy-green opening, this aquatic spicy-woody Spring fragrance, settles on a warm and leathery resinous-woody base.

Quite minty, but more like long-chewed gum stuck under the table with hairspray. Not for me at all.

Herb-citrusy, sweet mint opens. Then it becomes gently salty, fresher, a bit aquatic. In the base, it turns sweet with warm, spicy amber.

I'm not really a Montale fan, but I find herbal aquatica very nice! Fruity-fresh and strong.
But not too overpowering.

Not at all my scent direction, yet I think the fragrance is great. At 35 degrees, it's really refreshing, cool, aquatic, and green. I

Herb mix without any charm. I find it to be a rather creepy men's hairspray with a very chemical note.
