Addictive
Addictive.

Not harsh neither medicinal oud if compared to Aoud Lime or White Aoud first notes.

Oud here is soft and rose is sweet and comforting. I can clearly detect the geranium note and a light woody note.

It reminds a lot of Aseel by Al-Rehab for sure - Aseel is slightly less sweet and more earthy roses.

Aoud Rose Petals is unisex and has a great lasting power and sillage. I prefer this to Aoud Queen Roses and to Aoud Damascus.

Like the name
The trend of aoud fragrances is here. Why not to try and see if you like aoud or not. And , as I learned from my dear reviewers, it highly depends of the quality of the aoud.
Montale named his perfume Aoud( first thing first) and Roses Petales(last). It was ment for me, the novice, to understand that what I have to evaluate is the aoud. And I did. I did not like it. Heavy like a huge door that does not let you open it, or, maybe, I was the one who could not find the way to do it.
While standing in front of this door you can smell roses, petals of roses, but I imagine that not too many novices opened the door becase the rose petals are dried up. Eventually I drew a parralel with Crown- Rose Bouquet- with its smell of dried roses.
I am still learning. That's all .

More Rosebush Than Oud--but still very good
Montale AOUD ROSE PETALS opens as a strong greenish rose bush perfume, by which I mean complete with stems, leaves and thorns-—and a few petals, too. This stage lasts sufficiently long to remind me of TEA ROSE and lead me to ask why I would buy another rosebush-in-a-blender perfume for 50x (or more…) the price of the queen of green rose, readily available for single-digit dollars.

After several minutes, however, the regality of AOUD ROSE PETALS finally begins to shine through, at this point reminding more of Amouage UBAR than TEA ROSE. But I hasten to add that I still do not think that the oud (or aoud or oudh) note ever asserts itself enough to warrant classifying this as an oud perfume. This is a beautiful floral composition, but it is, in the end, a floral, not an oriental perfume.

The drydown of ROSE PETALS OUD manifests the same vintage quality shared by UBAR and L’OMBRE ROSE, so for now (for the same crassly economic reason) I’ll stick with the latter. All in all, while I like ROSE PETALS OUD, its various stages are so similar to other, far less expensive perfumes that it seems best to save the big Montale bucks for something else from their vast collection, which I am only beginning to explore.

-----
After acquiring some manufacturer's carded samples from this house, I decided to try AOUD ROSES PETALS again and found that it is much more oriental than it seemed from my initial testing from a decanted vial. Hmmm.... I do not think that it is heavily oudified, but there is definitely a lot more going on than just roses.

Rose petals with Oud...
...and that for the little rose! I can't with Montale! I have already tried several of his fragrances, and the result was always the same: I don't like them.

This one doesn't change anything about that. It reminds me of Rosewater Eau Fresh by Crabtree & Evelyn, from which all sweetness has been removed and a homeopathic portion of Oud has been added.

The scent starts off slightly rosy-woody and doesn't change over time on my skin. It is also dry, faintly rosy, soapy, and woody. There is no mood for me in which I would wear such a fragrance. I find it cold and masculine, harsh, and I mourn the rose petals...

I guess this will be my last Montale attempt.

A Scent Twin
As already mentioned with Aoud Flowers, there are Montale Oud fragrances that differ only minimally from one another. And Aoud Rose Petal - thanks to CocoLeFay for the sample - is one of them. I immediately compared it with Aoud Flowers. In the first few minutes, there is absolutely no noticeable difference! I almost believed someone had made a mistake during the bottling. The description "Perfect harmony of rose and oud" fits here as well as there.

Only gradually does a minimal difference become perceptible. The pyramid of Aoud Rose Petals additionally features saffron and cedarwood, while Aoud Flowers lists geranium, bergamot, and musk.

First of all: The difference does not lie in the rose, which is identical in both perfumes.
A slightly citrusy bergamot also seems to be present in both cases in the top notes, perhaps a tad more in Aoud Flowers, or better said, bergamot is differently present in various scent phases.

It is saffron and cedarwood that make the small difference in Aoud Rose Petals. How to describe it? One could say the rose bush in Aoud Flowers grows on a dark background. The bush of Aoud Rose Petals, however, grows on sandy soil!
Saffron and cedarwood add something else, and that makes me think of sand. At the same time, the scent spreads a bit more, I wouldn't call it opulent. Due to the cedarwood, Aoud Rose Petals feels slightly drier and more bitter, while Aoud Rose Petals feels slightly fruitier and more medicinal.

Should one now say Aoud Flowers is better because it is more purist? Or should one prefer Aoud Rose Petals because it might be a bit more interesting? If I were faced with the choice, I would probably choose Aoud Flowers.

Strangely, one always encounters Aoud Rose Petals in perfumeries, never Aoud Flowers, for whatever reason.

Typical Montale Aoud with a penetrating sledgehammer of alderwood, synthetic overkill, and scents of roses and rose geraniums: Trash!

Goodness, this really blows your mind! Rosy with a soapy tendency, medicinal oud, and something sharp. Fascinating?

Extremely sweet rose-oud, which I find quite cloying and difficult. Tacky, loud. You want to open a window immediately...

I can't decide with this one.. something bothers me.. the rose is beautiful, the wood is great too... maybe it's the saffron?

A noble oriental rose unfolds gradually, accompanied by cool saffron and spicy oud. Wonderful, exquisite scent!
