It Must Have Been Vanilla, but it's Over Now
With Vanilla being so popular in the fragrance world, I say "If you're going to do it, do it right"! Pacifica originally carried a fantastic mouth-watering vanilla fragrance, with a touch of sandalwood called "Vera Cruz Vanilla". I blew threw my stash, thinking who would ever get rid of this amazing easy to wear delicious and inexpensive gem? Ugh, alas, all I have left is the single tea candle in the fragrance which I can still go back to and smell the full yummy edible fragrance in all its grandeur. Why did they replace it with this poor excuse for a vanilla? I don't know...I keep testing this hoping it will grow on me, but really...this is just a shame. Island Vanilla has virtually no sillage, about the same as real vanilla extract would on my skin and the longevity is about 1 hour at maximum. The main failing of this fragrance is just the lack of effort on the composition. It's like when you go to your favorite bakery for their signature fresh cream filled pastry topped with fresh glazed figs or plums and they say..."Oh we just sold the last one! But wait..." and they come out a moment later and hand you a plain looking day-old sugar cookie. It is so flat...a sweet little puff of vanilla powder, gone with the wind. This can not compete with any full fledged Vanilla fragrance, I can't even justify getting this for air freshener. Not even "Lavanila" has anything to worry about, it wins hands down it is just like a watery vaguely powdery vanilla-ish scented body splash. The makers are hoping you'll layer with soap, lotion, scrub and then re-apply this spray every hour to create a faint vanilla essence. But really, there are so many good vanillas out there, why bother. Might I suggest Laurence Dumont's "Vanille Bourbon" for an inexpensive decent alternative and then work your way up through your personal budget checking out La Maison de Vanille "Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar" and Comptoir Sud Pacifique "Vanille Extreme" and on to the aristocratic Annick Goutal "Vanille Exquise", "Tihoti", Guerlain's iconic "Spiriteuese Double Vanille", L'artisan's "Vanille Absolument",Bois 1920 "La Vaniglia" and Il Profumo's "Vanille Bourbon", et cetera infinitinum. Bring back Vera Cruz Vanilla, Please!

Sticky sweet honey vanilla
Pacifica’s Island Vanilla is a tropical, edible vanilla entwined with prominent honey. The warm honey note is just as strong if not stronger than the buttery alcoholic vanilla. Very, very sticky sweet, creamy, and delicious. Besides that, there’s not much complexity. I imagine it would do well when layered. I don’t really smell any of the tea at all. Maybe there’s a very slight hint of coconut, but I’m unsure. The floral note is very minimal, I hardly notice it. It’s somewhat similar to a few other fragrances by Pacifica— beachy, but not nearly as beachy as Indian Coconut Nectar. If you’re looking for a more refined vanilla, this will probably be too immature and cutesy. Still, I think it’s a fun little fragrance, and you just cannot beat the price. Great for leisurely summer and late spring days, carefree and joyous.

Reminds me of cake
"Pacifica Island Vanilla is my jam" is what my new age-y west coast friend told me when they learned that perfume is a hobby and passion of mine. And so I bought a bottle. When that ran out, I bought a second bottle. Pacifica is affordable enough to do this. I understand why my friend loves this one. I'm not always the biggest fan of vanilla perfumes but when done right they fill a necessary space in my fragrance wardrobe. Warm, creamy and soft. The honey note makes this a bit more interesting somehow. Can be worn on its own or layered with another scent, in any season or weather, to any place... versatility points!

Island Vanilla
My initial reaction to this fragrance was -'It's so cute!'- because truly, it is. I believe this has the potential to unite vanilla lovers and vanilla critics in agreeing that to this is nice.

It opens with fresh, airy vanilla, it's kind of salty and fresh, but only gently so. It doesn't actually smell like tea to me, but it has an aquatic quality.

As it dries it warms to you and becomes nearly a beachy scent, but more graceful than the typical sunscreen scent. It does indeed smell a little honeyed. I'm not sure people would identify this as a perfume, it just smells like lovely lotion or something. It isn't creamy or rich, but it's sweet and soft.

This isn't heavy in the slightest, and that's ok to me because this can be worn in summer. I simply wish it lasted a little longer, but this is still a fantastic deal for it's price.

Pure vanilla
First spray is very alcoholic, but dissipates to a true vanilla sugar. I don't get any tea notes out of it. My perfume journey started with this in high school. I bought this with my tips from being a barista and I sprayed it in my hair because I would be washing my hands all day. The vanilla smell plus the coffee scent that coated my clothes from grinding beans might be the best I've ever smelled. One girl told me to always wear this perfume and that it reminded her of a unicorn. I guess the unicorns smell like vanilla?

Smells like powdery, sugary "Smarties" candy + synthetic vanilla. Sticky, sugary-sweet and candy-like.

This vanilla smells like edible candy on me. Lovely on light summer days.

Very good, but SIMPLE vanilla smell. Light siage. Good for "personal time" or layering. Used a full bottle but can't justify a repurchase.

Light, creamy vanilla with a brightness fit for summer. Haven’t tried the reformulated version.

Affordable and simple sweet vanilla scent that is light enough for summer. Nothing groundbreaking, but lovely.

A 12 out of 10! Oh, it’s beautiful! Vanilla with a fresh twist, just like Y.R. DNA. If you miss Vanilla Garden, this is a better replacement.

Dusty scratchy vanilla with a lot of alcohol. Feels very cheap. More like a body spray than anything else. Very disappointing.

Beautiful vanilla scent that doesn't need to hide. Lasts pretty well on me, I don't recognize any other notes on my skin.

Better than its reputation. At first a bit too much alcohol, but then sweet, delicious vanilla with amazing longevity. I like it!
