It Must Have Been Vanilla, but it's Over Now
With Vanilla being so popular in the fragrance world, I say "If you're going to do it, do it right"! Pacifica originally carried a fantastic mouth-watering vanilla fragrance, with a touch of sandalwood called "Vera Cruz Vanilla". I blew threw my stash, thinking who would ever get rid of this amazing easy to wear delicious and inexpensive gem? Ugh, alas, all I have left is the single tea candle in the fragrance which I can still go back to and smell the full yummy edible fragrance in all its grandeur. Why did they replace it with this poor excuse for a vanilla? I don't know...I keep testing this hoping it will grow on me, but really...this is just a shame. Island Vanilla has virtually no sillage, about the same as real vanilla extract would on my skin and the longevity is about 1 hour at maximum. The main failing of this fragrance is just the lack of effort on the composition. It's like when you go to your favorite bakery for their signature fresh cream filled pastry topped with fresh glazed figs or plums and they say..."Oh we just sold the last one! But wait..." and they come out a moment later and hand you a plain looking day-old sugar cookie. It is so flat...a sweet little puff of vanilla powder, gone with the wind. This can not compete with any full fledged Vanilla fragrance, I can't even justify getting this for air freshener. Not even "Lavanila" has anything to worry about, it wins hands down it is just like a watery vaguely powdery vanilla-ish scented body splash. The makers are hoping you'll layer with soap, lotion, scrub and then re-apply this spray every hour to create a faint vanilla essence. But really, there are so many good vanillas out there, why bother. Might I suggest Laurence Dumont's "Vanille Bourbon" for an inexpensive decent alternative and then work your way up through your personal budget checking out La Maison de Vanille "Vanille Sauvage de Madagascar" and Comptoir Sud Pacifique "Vanille Extreme" and on to the aristocratic Annick Goutal "Vanille Exquise", "Tihoti", Guerlain's iconic "Spiriteuese Double Vanille", L'artisan's "Vanille Absolument",Bois 1920 "La Vaniglia" and Il Profumo's "Vanille Bourbon", et cetera infinitinum. Bring back Vera Cruz Vanilla, Please!
