Ah yes… a new year, a new Candy flanker. So far, so good…
*sigh*
As you know, I've been struggling for ages to test the Candy scents because they are not only women's fragrances and therefore are located in the women's section, but they are also filled in brightly colored, beautiful bottles that invite all the women nearby to try them just by their appearance!
But 2018 was supposed to be THE year when I finally had to be braver. No more fear of testing women's fragrances in public. No more fear of being observed while doing so. No more fear of insulting you silly perfumes… oops, that last part probably shouldn't have been said out loud… oh well, I'm not afraid of you… unless you want to hit me!!! :D
Anyway, I went to the shelf with the Candy scents as usual. This time braver than ever! By the way, the shelves with the Prada fragrances are a nice sight, as there are now quite a few flankers standing around there. Although some might say that there are already too many flankers in this fragrance line, I think they are all great!
So I grab the latest bottle and want to spray it on myself… As I said, 2018, I want to be braver, blah blah blah.
Then, of course, it happens. I realize that I am actually standing in front of the colorful Prada women's fragrances. And at that exact moment, the following things happen:
My mind tells me: Come on, just test it! Nothing will happen!
My gut feeling tells me: Don’t take the bottle in your hand, but rather take your legs and run away as fast as you can!
My heart tells me: … my heart isn’t saying anything at all, it has long since stopped beating out of sheer fear,…!
Suddenly… while I’m stuck in my thoughts and wondering how I could best spray it on unnoticed… I hear a voice. A real, female voice:
“Hello, you’ve been standing here for ages! Can I help you?”
I jump. It’s a saleswoman! She’s smiling at me!
“Uh, I… *sweating* I just want to see how the new Candy smells, because I really like the line! I’ve tried them all and I love them all!”
OH MY GOD, I’m such an IDIOT!!! Why did I have to say at the end of the sentence that I would LOVE all these fragrances?
What one says out of nervousness... Because I swear to you, the saleswoman’s face lit up a bit more after that. At that exact moment, combined with the last part of my statement, it didn’t sound like I was looking for a scent for a girlfriend/mother or anyone else, but for MYSELF!!
I try to salvage what can be salvaged and stammer something like:
“Yeah, yeah… you ladies have so many more beautiful fragrances than we men do!”
Her response: “Yes, that’s true. There is indeed a larger selection for women. That’s why I know quite a few men who regularly come here to buy women’s fragrances for themselves!”
… “FOR THEMSELVES!!!”, she said! Aaaaaaaargh,… why did she have to say THAT? What does she think of me now???? She must think that I actually want to smell like the Candies myself. So sweet and sexy… and that I generally use such women’s fragrances… aaaaaaaarrrrrggghgghghghghghgh!!!!!!!!
Of course, she immediately asked if she should spray the scent on me, and you can guess what I, the fool, replied…: “Yes,… VERY VERY MUCH!!!” … *sigh*
Believe me,… I will probably always struggle with testing Candy scents. ALWAYS! So I almost hope that this is the last Candy flanker… but only almost… *sigh*
The scent:
First of all, the scent seems really light to me, as I can hardly perceive anything properly. Only gradually do I smell light, fresh citrus notes, after which the scent becomes fruity with the peaches.
It takes a while to recognize the Candy DNA, as the scent is less sweet than the other fragrances. Overall, it hardly has anything to do with the cotton candy-like sweetness anymore. This makes the scent feel more relaxed and summery.
In the base, however, there is (temporarily) something that I unfortunately don’t like very much, and this is also the reason why I don’t rate the scent as highly as I usually do. Because I now smell a somewhat stuffy, floral note that reminds me a bit of ylang-ylang. I generally don’t like ylang-ylang very much, and I think that this makes the scent a bit stuffy and sticky, losing too much of its sweetness and, above all, even appearing a bit more mature. This also slightly diminishes the freshness of the scent.
Later in the base, the stuffy floral note becomes weaker again, although it remains floral and slightly sweet, with the sweetness now coming from a somewhat lightly done vanilla, which smells quite pleasant, also due to the powdery creamy notes.
The sillage and longevity:
The sillage is initially relatively weak, but from the base, the scent becomes noticeably heavier and is then also better perceivable, leaving a small scent cloud behind later on.
The longevity is okay, six to seven hours are possible.
The bottle:
The bottle is, of course, beautifully designed again. It is cylindrical with a yellow base and pink fragrance liquid. At the end of the bottle, you can see a white band with golden edges, featuring that well-known Prada faux leather pattern, and the golden Prada logo is visible on it. The spray head is half oval or slightly dome-shaped and is gilded, with the dome being pastel blue. This bottle is also a success.
Hmm… so… I have to say that I don’t like the new Candy as much as the previous ones, but it has still turned out quite nice. However, this is not because the scent is significantly less sweet, but much more due to the stuffy floral base, which is absolutely not my thing, as I don’t like this ylang-ylang-like scent very much, even if you should smell it more up close than in the rising scent cloud. But this becomes weaker in the later base, so it’s not so bad for me now and might even appeal to you ladies, and you might find a nice summer scent with it.
…
Oh dear, you know, I usually spray fragrances on myself in a store. Occasionally, I get sprayed by a saleswoman. Normally, I just smile and say “Thank you” or something like that… but after spraying, she of course said something else to me… and it was the following:
“So, now go for a 30-minute to one-hour walk and let the scent develop on YOUR skin to see how it smells on YOU, because scents smell a little different on everyone!”
That’s it! End! After THIS sentence, it was absolutely clear that she assumed I was trying the scent for myself and was now planning to let the scent work on my skin to decide whether I would BUY THE SCENT FOR MYSELF!!… I will definitely NEVER GO BACK to that store *sigh* … Why does this always happen to me?? :((
