Another boring flanker to an already boring line

Just another synthetic mess of vague spiciness, vague woodiness, and vague ambers. By "amber" I don't mean the traditional amber accord of vanilla, labdanum, and benzoin, but rather synthetic amber aromachemicals like amberwood, amber xtreme, ambroxan, etc which in theory try to replicate the scent of ambergris but in reality can't be further.

Even though there is sweetness, I don't get any vanilla from Luna Rossa "Ocean." Possibly a bit of vanillin that provides a bit of powderiness way at the end, but it seems like the sweetness is provided by ethyl maltol, which is more akin to cotton candy when there's a lot of it like in BR540, but here it's mixed in with the woody aromachemicals and doesn't stand out on its own.

Any grapefruit/citrus note is so fleeting it is hardly worth mentioning. And if you smell frankincense from this fragrance, I'm convinced you've never actually smelled frankincense before. Not sure what they were thinking with this note pyramid.

All in all, this is just another collection of aromachemicals that sat on some perfumer's shelf called "generic male scent #18" until they shipped it off to Prada to make it the umpteenth (actually, let's call it what it is, it is even more embarrassing: ELEVENTH) uninspiring flanker of an old, tired, boring line.

Seemingly average but addicting

This was my first fragrance I picked out for myself from a sampler set. The opening is a heavenly grapefruit and amber. It dries down into a warm incense and vanilla. This is not an aquatic fragrance at all despite the name of it. This is a nice spring fragrance that I'd wear on a colder day. Compared to other fragrances, this isn't mind-blowing but something tickles my nose to keep me coming back for more.

A Nice Powdery and Clean Perfume

It is a Nice Scent, Powdery, Soapy, Clean and Woody. I received It as a Gift for my Birthday Last week. My favorite choice in Line is EDT and I love it but EDP is another perfume and style. It opens up with a bit soapy and fresh spicy, woody and balsamic notes in the background then dry down is semi sweet Vanilla and woody. This is a Linear Fragrance with Good Longevity. I'm so happy that I have it in my collection.

Vanilla Ocean

First impression-For sure different than its' brother EDT but also similar. Strange enough but true.It keeps the fresh character of the EDT but still is more warm and sweet. It is more versatile and it fits almost all seasons but mostly Spring Autumn. Highly based to vanilla moves a lot away from its' ocean name but the top notes still keep the freshness alive.
As a conclusion is rather a good fragrance which does not impress you at a high level but still you need to spray it more and more as you use it.

Tricky for my untrained nose

I see plenty of people describe Luna Rossa Ocean EDP as a generic "men's cologne" blue fragrance, when really, I remember picking this one out for how much it stood out amongst its competition. A super sharp, almost spicy ambery grapefruit top note that gives it an air of maturity and complexion, with an exceptionally masculine vanilla dry-down. To me, it's as complex and mature as a blue fragrance gets before you start getting into more complex smoky and woody profiles.

Not "aquatic" at all in the slightest. That name is misleading, as there is no watery-esque freshness to be named "Ocean," and while that's not a critique of the scent itself, just know that it is not that type of fresh.

There is a wall of extremely powdery grapefruit up front that hangs on for quite some time, making the pretty long-lasting top note a little hard to get past as someone with a perfume sensitivity (ironic for someone exploring fragrances, I know). I can see this being a little headache-inducing for some, as it has been at times for me. However, the dry-down on this fragrance is stupendous on my skin. Vanilla makes you think of a warm fragrance, but they've nailed a very masculine, clean type of vanilla that makes this quite a versatile scent that I wouldn't call winter-specific.

Certainly situational. For me, too complex and spicy up-front for casual daily wear, but not so complex and mature that it suits black-tie formal. A nice in-between, perfect for anything more eventful than the day-to-day routine.

It would seem that it's not as mass appealing as some people would say. My girlfriend is not a fan, for example. But I will give it credit for being one of the few fragrances I've gotten a stranger's compliment for wearing, so there is certainly an appeal to it.
