A short lasting romance
There was once a man that I was very keen on. For years I lusted after him, until one drunken night, I let my feelings show and ended up going home with him. Polo Blue was the fragrance he wore that particular night.

I remember feeling intoxicated by its aroma, (in a good way). It was fresh, watery, a little citrusy and a touch herbaceous. Despite the fact that he was already a sexy looking guy, this fragrance made him all the more appealing.

This scent is youthful, yet masculine. It has a somewhat soapy edge that tends to become powdery as the fragrance develops.

While some dislike the dominant cucumber note, I rather enjoyed it. I used to have a sample of Polo Red, White and Blue, and in some ways, these two fragrances are similar.

This fragrance seems really suited to the young, sporty types. Unfortunately after my night with the man in question, we never saw each other again, so in some ways this fragrance has become less attractive in my eyes, just like CK's Eternity did after a two year relationship ended.

Polo Blue, although very pleasant, has shocking lasting power. I was a little disappointed to find it lasting no more than four hours. Every now and then I'll spritz this fragrance on to a piece of card to remember him, and everytime I do, I keep thinking how fresh, comforting, Summery and sporty this fragrance is.

Very Modern !
Yes! it is very modern Fragrance indeed. Although I am a big fan of 70s & 80s Fragrance - That old & heavy one :) - but Sometimes I just need a fresh & Light Fragrance for my spare time :) especial when I want to look like a Modern Man :)

Well, Polo Blue is just about Clean Freshness :) Take a shower and Spray about 7 sprays - sorry for my bad English :) - and you just ready to hunt some girls down :) A Metaphorical Speech :)

You may smell clearly a lovely Mixed aura of Melon, Mandarin & Basil in a soft way. Good long-lasting on my clothes with good "Modern" Sillage :)

My first fragrance ever. Get ready to put those nostalgia goggles on
This was my entry into the fragrance world. I was in high school and the only thing I'd known about fragrance at this point was Stetson or Brute because that was what my grandpa wore. My dad had just moved back to my state after serving over 20 years in the military and it was around the time my birthday hit. He asked me what I wanted and I told him I didn't have a clue. I had all of the video games and stuff I could want. He handed me a magazine he said he'd gotten recently and it had sections in it where you could peel a section of the page back to smell what a fragrance was like. I peeled two off and wasn't a fan of either and then I arrived to Polo Blue. I smelled it and my first reaction at that age was, "I can get girls with this." My decision was made. Fast forward to 2010 and my father (rest in soul) left us early. It was devastating. When we planned his funeral, I volunteered to be one of his pallbearers because it would be the last good thing I could do for him. At the funeral, I decided I was going to wear a fragrance not because I had to, but because I wanted it to be something that reminded me of him. I put on 4 sprays of Polo Blue - my last 4 sprays as my bottle went empty. The perfect end to that bottle. Fast forward to several years later and I am now officially on my fragrance journey and I've been smelling just about anything I got my nose on. I kept thinking to myself that the one fragrance that started it all for me wasn't on my shelf with the rest so I hopped online and ordered a brand new bottle of Polo Blue and the EDP version of Polo Blue. I said in a blogpost that when I got to this fragrance that all of my typical rules for reviewing were going out the window. Time to make due on that promise.

The Smell: It's highly synthetic so let's get that out of the way now because I know it's a hard knock against it. Just smelling it takes me back to those high school days and being that excited kid to receive his first fragrance. My dad was still around and things were much simpler back then. I get a watery feel to this fragrance which I attribute to the cucumber even though this is not a true cucumber that we get in Polo Blue. The orange is there initially but it doesn't last long. Strangely enough, I get the "melon" note in here almost as much as I got the "fruity" notes in Millesime Imperial by Creed. It's very, vague and faint but it's there. Before I have Creed fanboys come after me, no Polo Blue smells nothing like Millesime Imperial. Not even close. The opening of MI would blow this out of the water. After getting the watery feel, the fragrance goes floral/green on me. I think Ralph Lauren gave the wrong title to this fragrance because wow is it green on me. I don't know if it was always like this and I just never noticed but after smelling it on my hand, it's more noticeable than ever. The initial feel from the opening still lingers which is nice because that's what caught my attention as a high school kid. It starts off as an "aquatic" but turns green, then goes musky for the remaining duration.
Rating: 10/10* (nostalgia factored into the score)

Projection: Fair to moderate. Depending on the climate you wear it in (I'll cover this more in depth in the versatility section), it can do moderately well. It's projection is not that noticeable. It's a freshie. It's not meant to push like that. I will say that I've had instances where I think it's not projecting and I'll have people tell me they can smell it from about 2-3 feet away. I've also been on the reverse thinking I put on way too much and go the entire day without a mention of it. It's very hit or miss which can be frustrating for someone who has never smelled/worn it. I get that.
Rating: 7/10* (this fragrance is so unpredictable on me, this score can honestly fluctuate from a 7 to a 5)

Longevity: I'm going to start adding this section in my reviews because I don't want to lump projection & longevity in the same category anymore. It adds another section to add to the final score and has the opportunity to give more insight. On average, I get 6-8 hours from it. For a freshy, designer fragrance, it's decent. I typically like my scents to give me 6-8 hrs (accounting for the type of scent, of course). This achieved that (albeit barely) so it doesn't get perfect marks.
Rating: 8/10

Pricing: Coming from Ralph Lauren's website, for 75 mL it's $95 USD ($0.79 per mL), 125 mL is $110 ($1.14 per mL), 200 mL for $150 ($1.33 per mL). Pricing is pretty consistent across the board. As you can see, it's actually cheaper to get the smaller bottle but they do not go up that much if you decide to go up to the 200 mL bottle. I will say that you can definitely find this fragrance for much cheaper than what I listed. I've seen it listed for as low as $43 USD and you could possibly get it lower than that. $43 USD for 75 mL ($0.57 per mL) is awesome value. Definitely affordable.
Rating: 10/10

Versatility: Anytime, anywhere. I typically wear this while running errands, gym, work, or casually. It's not offensive or loud. I will add that it does much better in the warmer climates. The hotter it gets outside, the better it performs. I personally think this was made for the summer but can be worn in any season. It's getting the marks it deserves.
Rating: 10/10

Final Verdict: 9/10 by the numbers + adding in my nostalgia factor in for the scent section. I will say my rating is inflated because I have a personal attachment to this fragrance. If this had not been given to me by my father (rest in peace), I might have rated it differently. It takes me back to high school and reminds me of a different time. It makes me remember my dad who I did not have the best relationship with growing up but we mended a lot of damage before he passed away. This review for me has been emotional and has taken me on that rollercoaster. Every time I wear it, I can see him again. A 9/10, even with an inflated score, does not do this fragrance justice based on a sentimentality level. Factor in the fact that this fragrance is what started my fragrance journey and got me into this amazing hobby, it holds a place in both my heart and my fragrance collection/wardrobe. Subjectively, based on all of the above information, this is a 10/10 for me.

Sweet, Weak and Unremarkable
Take a fragrance bottle, fill with water and then add a teaspoon of milk and sugar. The result - Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren. Yes it's sweet and clean, but it's very weak and watery as well which is a shame as I really wanted to like this one. It's interesting that this was partly created by the same person who was responsible for the original Polo too as Polo Blue seems to be the exact polar opposite of the powerhouse original. Unfortunately though despite the interesting fragrance notes this really is nothing special.

Pleasant, Inoffensive, Weak
Nice fragrance. Opens up with a sweet melon and cucumber. The melon soon begins to fade after 5-10 minutes (although I wish it lingered more prominently throughout the composition), and a slightly musky suede note begins to peer through, adding some contrast. Once the melon settles down, most of what I get off my skin is cucumber and suede, with hints of basil and some florals in the background.

I have received some compliments within the first 15 minutes of spraying this, however, this only lasts about 2-3 hours on my skin. During the first 30 minutes though, projection is moderate and you get a nice sillage if you disperse the sprays around your body. This is typically with 6-9 sprays. Unfortunate, because I'd wear this a little more otherwise. Feels great and refreshing on a hot day, and clean after a shower.

Another knock I have on this would be the atomizer. I'm not sure about anybody else, but mine sprays a giant cloud about one-to-two inches far, making this fragrance annoying to apply. Perhaps this is related to my longevity issues.

All in all, I do like this one. Not my favourite by any means, but enjoyable nonetheless.

It's not a strongly scented cologne, yet warm, masculine and woodsy when it heats up. It will lightly stay with you all day long as well!

Cucumber/melon/basil combo doesn't quite do it for me. Besides that, there is not much to discover. Overall not a very pleasant smell.

Cucumber and basil as aquatic fresheners provide a decent and unusual freshness kick, which at times turns out pungent.

Had the OG from 02 (Still have the bottle). Picked up a decant for nostalgia, smells nothing like I remember. Original 9/10 Now 6/10.

Shower gel scent, office safe. I don't get melon at all. Tester smelled way softer than the bottle I bought. Decent performance, not potent though.

In moderation, it's nice and cucumber-ish. Heavy on calone. Something about it feels very youthful and daytime. Baggy jeans and no shirt.
