Clean and sophisticated
I recently acquired some samples of this Purple label and was very pleased with the scent construction- it definitely smells purple, but slight and not cloying in its sweetness. I detect the green coriander, a light floral scent and slight orange in the top. This top combination seems to be what gives it the clean feel. After a few moments, this gives way to the middle notes of a bit of tabacco surrounded by herbal aromatics of thyme and a little sage as well. These top and middle notes are what define this scent for me, as the only base notes i seem to detect is a slight peppery-ness about 45min later. However, There are some notes i detect- lemon, violet flower or lavender perhaps, and later, pepper- that aren't in the pyramid, just as there are notes in the pyramid that i wish were noticable- blueberry and musk. I'm sure this could just be how my skin reacts to the scent as I've seen reviews that those less noticable notes were detected more by others.

Overall though, I'd say this is a nice, fresh, slightly crisp and very clean scent but the downside definitely comes with the sillage and longevity. It stays close to the skin, and is unoffensive- being the distinguished gent this frag is- so its good nobody is going to smell this across the room, but rather they must come close to appreciate it. So, the only Real downside to this (IMO) is the longevity- after 10-15 min i can barely smell it even with my nose pressed against the skin. And it also seems to have a gap in the notes, from the time the middle ends (15 min maybe), there is not a noticable smell for a good ten minutes or so then you get a fleeting peppery smell perhaps with a whisper of musk. However I must add that it is winter and very dry, so i will be updating in the warmer months, and I have my fingers crossed that it will last longer then.

Alas,
I can see this being a very nice everyday cologne (I hear it's discontinued though) for work or play, unoffensive for the office, but nice and slightly unique for intimate club setting. I will most likely buy a bottle while I can, because this is semi-addictive and very fresh smelling.

Rich. Green. Fresh. Spice
This scent isn't too complicated but it is somewhat complex.
.
When you first spray, you get green, coriander, blackberry & citruses. It is so pleasant. Its rich, it's full-bodied, It's really something that gives you energy. I wouldn't be surprised if someone said this scent gives them confidence.
This scent almost puts you in a good mood.
.
After about 20 mins, the combination of citrus & coriander is still there. The blackberry fades to the background but it's still present giving this almost creamy ending in the backend.
Sooner or later this sage takes over, with the combination of that & tobacco. But the coriander, I feel, is still present. So its quite spicy but It's almost Fougere, but very fresh & still with depth. I don't understand how something so green, can make you feel purple. It's def got that feel & I see why they're calling it the purple label. It absolutely has that, in spades.
.
I'd save this for spring or fall absolutely, for most use through the day or night, in any situation. It could be worn at night if you want to smell good but not overpower the room. If you're in the office, spray moderately. It can get spicy, so think about those with sensitive noses.
.
But this scent is very pleasant, & crowd pleasing so enjoy it. It's worth the buy, I'm thinking it'll last about 6 hours on the skin. It projects maybe an hour but after the first hour or hour & ½ it becomes a skin scent. You'll still catch a compliment, if you get a hug.
My estimation, if you can get your hands on it. Buy it

King of Quite Luxury
I’m a huge fan of the fragrance. It has a fresh, dark fruit or blackberry opening with dry, leafy leather touches throughout. It very much reminds me of Creed Aventus, but with different materials, making it not quite a chypre. It definitely registers as masculine; however, I could see anyone wearing it. I also saw some comments about a cigarette smell. For me, that went away after a day or two, perhaps it needed to macerate more. Several people in my life have said it doesn’t smell like cigarettes or have an overpowering tobacco note, and I’ve been wearing it for about a month now. All of the praise aside, I am disappointed in the longevity and the atomizer and bottle. The longevity is poor (3 to 5 hours on my skin), so I carry a refillable travel sprayer with me. My biggest complaint is the atomizer. It is definitely below average compared to other mid-tier retail sprayers like Versace Man Eau Fraîche or even Polo Red EDT. I’m a huge fan of the quiet luxury of the RL Purple Label brand, so the atomizer being subpar was surprising. All of this being said, the fragrance is amazing (top 3 for me) and definitely smells expensive. However, the longevity and atomizer are a little disappointing. Overall, I would recommend it, but plan to carry it with you or spray it on clothes for better performance

Green instead of Purple
This limited fragrance has been available since 2003 in selected Ralph Lauren stores, primarily in the USA, and at that time represented the top end of the Lauren scents. Production has long since been discontinued.

A fresh, very green, slightly watery scent with quite low longevity that also tends to hold back rather discreetly. From the very beginning, there is a play of fruity, citrusy, green, and gently spicy notes, where the blueberry and especially the mandarin mentioned in the pyramid can be clearly recognized, perhaps also bergamot and melon, along with various green grasses, woods, and fruits that I cannot identify, a bit of pepper and gentle spices, all in all very citrusy, fruity, fresh, and above all, the distinct impression of a spicy "light green" :)

As it develops further, sage, jasmine, and other floral notes add a slightly floral touch to the composition, very nice. I must confess that the tobacco flower listed in the pyramid is completely unknown to me. What does such a thing smell like...?

In the drydown, the overall composition becomes noticeably calmer and a bit darker, the citrus notes have burned out their fire, and slightly mossy-woody notes join in. Everything is very clean, civilized, decent.

Even though this fragrance (produced according to BN by Firmenich) certainly does not belong to the greats, I really like it for its character: I cannot detect any typical synthetic notes for this time, everything smells very natural and rounded and "real," beautifully combining in its high complexity of many components that remind me of vintage scents, a lovely classic green fougère. Yes, I keep finding that if I didn’t know exactly that this is a fragrance from 2003, I would swear I was dealing with a typical green representative from the early 1990s. Very pleasant, I like it :) Unfortunately no longer available.

One of the all-time greats. Musk and dry woods with suede and enough blackberry to freshen things up. Clings well to clothes

Absolutely gorgeous fresh and dry tobacco flower and suede scent. A real shame about the performance.

Aventus definitely has Purple Label's bones deep inside. Aventus feels more fully formed and performs better, however. YMMV.

Blackberry spiced with tobacco flower, sage, and thyme plus a suede note makes a lovely combo. Low projection, requires lots of sprays to enjoy a wear
