It's funny to me that Ralph Lauren is putting all their effort into promoting
Ralph's Club Eau de Parfum and its flankers when every fragrance they've released around the same time is so much superior. In 2021 when Ralph's Club was released I remember thinking
Polo Cologne Intense was so much better (just look at the Parfumo ratings!) but I did not hear a peep from their marketing or even fragcomm. People are slowly starting to realize how good it is years after release. The
Polo est. 67 Eau de Toilette line has not been as invisible as Polo Cologne Intense but it still seems to be playing catch-up to the popularity of the Ralph's Club flankers, and I think that is a shame since it is such a better scent.
Yes, Polo 67 EDP is an amberwood, that horrid department-store-y DNA that is most detested by perfume aficionados (myself included), but it's probably one of the best of the worst. A very nice fruity yet masculine pineapple/mandarin opens it up, with the sweetened amberwood not far behind. At this point I thought all hope was lost and it was a destructive amberwood-ification of
Polo est. 67 Eau de Toilette like
Devotion pour Homme Parfum destroyed all the uniqueness of
Devotion pour Homme Eau de Parfum. But the addition of a slightly nutty sesame note saves this fragrance from being utterly forgettable. It makes the aromatic ambery tones more creamy and refined than found in, say,
Paradigme, or even than those found in Ralph Lauren's resident amberwood,
Ralph's Club Eau de Parfum.
I'd recommend this as a casual fragrance for a teenager or young adult, especially one who does not want to go all in on the relatively new idea of intense sweetness in men's fragrance; it has an easygoing nature and subtle fruitiness, amber, and creaminess and a masculine aromatic edge. Not a bad starter fragrance for $40-50 once it hits discounters.
