Peace, Love and Yum!
"Keora" and I have been running into each other in several places and countries. I have seen it priced way up and sold as a bargain...yet somehow I was always looking for something else or I could never find a tester. Finally I decided to give it my full attention and test this potion in its pretty bottle (which is made out of thick glass that is quite heavy) with its cute tassel.

At first spray a complex and spicy incense wafts to my nose and I feel transported to the 60s where there is a Peace & Love party in full swing yet all the guests are posh and are wearing silk Kaftans and designer jeans. The spicy indian food is delicious. The smell of hand-rolled incense is lingering in the air and mixes with the expensive and exotic body oils the guests are wearing. "Posh Hippie" is the thought that comes to mind...and I like it!

It's more complex than the listed notes imply. It's smooth and beautiful and I have the urge to wear black silk and emerald velvet and adorn myself with that special necklace that was gifted to me from a loved one who visited Egypt. An intricate elegant design of silver, vibrant lapis lazuli and velvet green malachite....Beautiful and colourful and this is the perfect scent to wear with it.

It's an amber spicy and (smoke free!) incense-ey beauty (and contains lots more notes that are so well blended that I cant really tell them apart) and I can only sigh and enjoy the wonderful result on my wrists.

Keora is for all those people who hoped/expected that Juicy Coutures "Peace Love and Juicy Couture" was an elegant hippie scent. And for all those with a penchant for the mysteries of the East with its colourful Souqs, its intricate jewelry and scented temples, but who don't want to smell like cheap smoky incense. Keora is not linear in it scent evolvement...no, it's a pretty mix of notes that evolve and have always a smooth amber vibe to it.

Cross my palm with silver...and I'll predict that if you like the above mentioned things you'll adore Keora.

Silage is: amber yumminess and spicy beauty - Longevity is: 8+ hours. Enjoy!

In the Shadow of Coriandre
Most people associate the name Jean Couturier with the fragrance Coriandre from the early 1970s, which is not surprising, as this green chypre remains a unique feature in this fragrance genre to this day. The other scents from the brand were and are rather unknown to most, or they received little notice.

However, Jean Couturier was a constant presence in the world of perfumers, credited even with contributing to fragrances like "Y" by Yves Saint Laurent and the first women's fragrance from Azzaro. The first perfume launched under his own name was "Coriandre" in 1973, followed by "Eau Fraiche" in 1974, "Monsieur Couturier" in 1976, "12" for men in 1981, and "Kéora" in 1983. In the 1990s, he also released "Marjolaine," "Lilas Mauve," and "Un Jardin à Paris," all of which were women's fragrances in the more floral scent category.

Now to Kéora in particular, a beautifully designed oriental with a fresh-floral top note, a classic floral heart, and an animalic-opulent base.
In the top and heart notes, the fragrance is not particularly outstanding; it closely resembles the contemporaneous counterparts from Juvena "Sarabé," Balenciaga "Prélude," or even Guy Laroche's "J'ai Osé" from the 1970s. Yes, a certain similarity to Guerlain's "Shalimar" cannot be denied here.

However, the base note gives the fragrance something unique in the world of oriental scents. Here, benzoin, amber, and civet predominantly create a balsamic-animalic and erogenous scent progression. A certain sweetness from vanilla and tonka bean is present, but only subtly. Leather, patchouli, and vetiver lend the fragrance a rather gender-neutral quality at this stage of the scent progression, which is why I do not hesitate to wear this fragrance as a man. To soften the floral aspect in the top and heart notes for myself, I layered Kéora with "Eau Sauvage" by Dior, and the result was fantastic!
The longevity of the EdT is about 6 hours, while the extrait lasts almost 24 hours with a not overly dominant sillage.

Unfortunately, Kéora was likely discontinued sometime in the late 1990s; it can still be found occasionally online or abroad, particularly in France, Italy, or Spain, in small independent perfumeries. In Germany, it was rarely distributed; the only time I ever saw it here was ages ago in the Aachen perfumery Thomas... Unfortunately, also history! :-(

Pleasant oriental with a gentle, floral-spicy character. Accompanies you calmly and confidently through the night. No hangover in the morning. No regrets.
