Pointless oud
If we frankly answer the question "what happens that most straight English perfume houses engage in Arabian oud-oriented market?" then we find out many facts. The answer is money not ethics nor prestige. The money itself covers but does like the king's new dress!
Oud Alif is the only oud-dominated fragrance by Shay & Blue. It's sweet grassy, chocolate leathery, spicy and patchouli, all within an un-phenolic, un-medicinal oud accord. The final fragrance is sweet chocolaty oud with tinge of sad grey. You may like Pardon by Nasomatto if you like Oud Alif but Pardon has several times more characteristics that this. Not a bad perfume, but forgettable. Average projection, good longevity.

Nice choc oud
I bought a few samples to go along with Salt Caramel as that's the one I really wanted to smell and I'm so glad I did. I love this, on me and on my bf. I'd say its perfectly unisex with the Oud and some rich sweetness coming from the chocolate. This one to me smells incredibly well blended and everything just *works*. If you don't like patchouli, obviously you aren't going to enjoy this. Very smooth and elegant vibes for both male and female tastes. On opening my BF did say he felt it a bit feminine but the dry-down changed his mind. Its more my cup of tea than his so I will happily wear it :)

I will add here that Shay and Blue's customer service is impeccable, they were out of stock of 2mls so sent me 10ml instead!

Oud for Oud Haters
Oud. This is fundamentally a polarizing topic. While lovers of warm animalic notes and oriental authenticity rave about it, the Oud deniers have clear words: "Cow barn, camel dung, and doctor's office."
For me, the word Oud is quite ambivalent. When I think back to my failed attempt with Oud Ispahan, my neck hairs instinctively stand on alert. Gucci's Oud Intense is highly appreciated by my husband, and I love this scent on him - there are even times when I quietly reach for this bottle myself. And then there's the magnificent London by Widian, of which I guard half a milliliter like the Holy Grail. It will surely be worthy of a bottle someday in the distant future - but I digress.
I appreciate Oud whenever it manages to give a fragrance a certain edge without pushing itself to the forefront and drifting into the realm of pungency.
About a week ago, I received a sample from a dear Parfumo, accompanied by a generous addition of "Oud Alif." I was skeptical. This could mean "All or Nothing." The name boldly flaunted the Oud and immediately evoked in me the association of a heavy oriental with an extra dose of cow barn.
But nothing ventured, nothing gained ... and so on. Two courageous sprays later, a question mark appears. Where is the Oud? It announced its arrival grandly, and now it leaves the eager guests out in the rain. While I wait for the Oud and honestly don’t particularly miss it, my nose perceives a woody-leathery scent, accompanied by a very fine fruity sweetness that makes it as unisex as unisex can be. But where does this fruitiness come from, which gives the herbaceous-woody leather accord a friendly twist and makes it wonderfully accessible? It must be the chocolate-saffron combination, as nothing else is allowed by the pyramid. Patchouli is present the whole time and harmonizes excellently with all the other protagonists. It is not cold, damp earth, but rather desert sand that significantly contributes to the cozy warm aura of the fragrance. Now I discover the Oud, who has quietly sneaked among the attendees and is trying to make the best of the situation. He apologizes, explaining that he had to quickly jump in the shower after feeding the milk cows and doing the stable laundry to rid himself of his - with all due respect - somewhat strong odor. Well, dear Oud, let’s forget about it. Take a glass and enjoy the evening. If you smell this good, you are forgiven.
The latecomers are usually the most beautiful anyway.
Oud was frequently complimented on his scent that evening, receiving praise from various ladies and gentlemen, yet he remained humble and reserved. It has never been his style to push himself into the spotlight.
He joked, celebrated exuberantly, and stayed for a good eight hours, even though he had to fight a bit against his fatigue in the early morning hours.

Oud & Chocolate?
Warm cold. That describes the scent quite well. At first, a beautiful Oud smoke surrounds you. About as familiar as the one from those incense cones. But then the leather becomes the big player. And it’s very high-quality - and expensive - leather.
The fine, bittersweet chocolate comes and goes. It wafts by gently like a breeze. So definitely not sweet or gourmand. It’s lovely how the components complement each other. The Oud is pleasantly present.
I really imagine a cozy log cabin with a leather couch and a fireplace with this scent. And I treat myself to that piece of chocolate in the evening right there.
In my opinion, the scent has rightly already won an award.
The next day, I still smell it on my clothing, and the only thing that comes to mind is:
Beautiful!

At a friend's...
... pig farmer standing in front of his smoking chamber. The smoky scent envelops my nose. Next to it lie the woods for smoking, and the farmer's wife comes with three cups of hot dark chocolate. We toast to each other and sit down on the bench in front of the house.

When applying this perfume, the nose is enchanted by a light bitter oud scent. Additional woods come into play. Gradually, a dark chocolate joins with the spicy notes of saffron. In the background, a light leather accord emerges, and the scent becomes dark and dry due to the patchouli. It becomes a masculine fragrance.

The longevity and sillage are good.

The scent is launched as unisex, but I see it more as a fragrance for men from around 30 years old due to its strong masculine note. This is a perfume that can be worn year-round. I would wear this scent in leisure time or in the evening at a bar, club, party, or disco. I wouldn't wear it to a meal or a date. But of course, it is up to each individual what they want to wear, and that applies to women as well.

Those who enjoy a spicy woody masculine scent will find this fragrance to be a great fit. One should like oud, though.

Gentle oud scent with a soft leather note and tame patchouli - just a hint of saffron and the emperor's new chocolate: a complete delight without calories.

Oud is very oil tanker-like & intense for a long time, with a strong sillage. But in the drydown, an incredibly beautiful, chocolatey-leathery scent emerges.

Leather & Oud is (not) an old hat. Pleasant. Leather with patchouli and a hint of oud, also has something of burnt rubber. I mostly like Shay & Blue.

Black Earth: a robust leather scent where oud doesn't take center stage, but patchouli does. Uncompromising, clear, and sober black.

Wonderful composition of dark chocolate wrapped in a hint of saffron on the finest leather, a floating scent aura, incredibly delicate.

High quality. Smoke. Oud + fantastic leather. Chocolate = here and there. Patchouli + saffron = light. Wood = light. The scent is underrated. H/S strong. Mask.

Warm-spicy oud scent with a distinct smoky and leathery touch, dark yet mild, rich, but already familiar, wrong season.

In the opening, a bit of oud, then lots of leather.
It reminded me a bit of Tuscan Leather, but instead of raspberry, there's dark chocolate here.
