Violets, Musty Books, Redwood and Playdoh--in that order
I find Tauer Perfumes Pentachord WHITE initially similar to a nineteenth-century violet perfume, something along the lines of Borsari VIOLETTA DI PARMA. From there a few different rather odd stages are traversed.

The smell of old musty books in the cold basement of a library is the first, followed by the smell of what seem to be planks of plywood. The plywood then begins to darken, becoming redder and redder until it is redwood.

By the drydown, I smell the Playdoh-ish violet of Christiane Celle CALYPSO VIOLET minglng with the redwood, but mainly it's Playdoh and violet at this point, with much less woodiness.

Do I like it? Yes, I guess I do, though I don't know that I need to have a bottle. WHITE seems to me to be an interesting experiment. Not sure that the world was deficient before the creation of a synthetic violet wood perfume which mimics in the opening and the drydown the scent of readily available natural violet perfumes...

Simply perfect!
Pentachord White is like a story, whispered in soft voice to a woman's ear. A woman with golden honey hair, a woman who wears pearls and silk dresses. A woman who pours a bit of milk in her green tea, who preffers her hot chocolate to be white, creamy and with a vanilla scent, and she never drinks it hot. She just wait for it to form a thin film meant to hide the smoldering heat from inside the cup. That's how this perfume is: emotion, voice tremble and sweet taste on the lips.

Violet candy
When I was a child, in Hungary, there was a sweet candy, which has this kind of fragrance. I adored that candy, so this memory makes me love this scent :)

In YouTube there is a video about Pentachords fragrances, in which Andy Tauer tells a lot of things about these 3 Pentachord parfumes. For example, they are really synthetic, Andy Tauer would like to prove, that a fragrance would be good if only it has five notes and the notes are truly synthetic.

I think sometimes a memory or a feeling can make the fragrance so good.....

The more I wear it, the more I love it.

White Perfection
Andy Tauer Parfums and I - a story that is just beginning. For a long time, the Tauer fragrances passed me by, but after reading some comments, my curiosity and interest have been ignited.

The Pentachord series (Pentachord = five-stringed string or plucked instrument) consists of a total of three fragrances (besides "White," there are also "Auburn" and "Verdant") that all consist of only five fragrance components. I call that, alongside the well-known mono fragrances, a lived minimalism. True to the motto "Less is more," sometimes you just don't need more to create a good fragrance.

So my first test candidate is "White." White is a color that I greatly appreciate because it aligns with my preference for clarity, transparency, and purism.
Moreover, it is, at least in our cultural context, usually associated with positive qualities (the color of innocence, purity, peace, etc.).
White as a soloist can indeed be exciting and have an elegant and luxurious attitude. White often appears even stronger in combination with other colors (the famous black-and-white or white on red) and can also serve as a backdrop for other colors. Black text on a white background is a classic, but I think that, for example, the labels from Jil Sander or Chanel are designed that way for a reason.
And last but not least, a white dress shirt is one of my absolute favorites, as it can be styled elegantly (with a suit) or casually (with jeans and a blue blazer).

I was all the more curious about how "White" would perform in terms of fragrance or how the Tauer house would interpret the color white.

In brief, I could determine the following fragrance progression:

Top note: Iris root with a hint of citrus-tinged amber

Heart note: Iris root with a slightly warming amber and a touch of unsweetened vanilla

Base note: Iris root with an amber/vanilla blend resting on rosewood

I could also swear I smell a bit of papyrus, but perhaps my nose is deceiving me here.

However, "White" does not really proceed in a structured manner, nor does the fragrance progression appear as such. The very high-quality fragrance components, of which I couldn't really identify the violet, play almost simultaneously. I don't perceive this as a disadvantage, as this fragrance progression creates a more than harmonious overall picture.

Iris root is said to have properties such as mystical, elegant, soft, powdery, and a bit cool. And that's exactly how I perceive "White." It is not a brash fragrance that barges in loudly through the door, but rather an elegant and cool fragrance that subtly reveals its charm and very mature eroticism. To stick with the theme of colors, white and silver come to mind.

I can very well imagine this fragrance in the warmer season, as it doesn't overwhelm anyone, stays close to the body, but still spreads a very pleasant fragrance aura around itself.

Not a fragrance for when you want to make a splash, but one for when you want to keep it (sportily) elegant. Suitable for daytime as well as evening and absolutely unisex. However, one should definitely like iris or iris root, as this one fragrance component absolutely dominates the other fragrance components.

For me, as a confessed iris lover, this is truly a found (fragrance) treasure that immediately lands on my wish list.

A Chord of Wood and Sun
When I first smelled Pentachord White, I was instantly transported back to my earliest childhood, as this perfume combines the scent of freshly cut tropical wood with the aroma of fine, herb-sweet pipe tobacco. This is probably my first memory of my father, who was a carpenter and a pipe smoker. Funny enough, I only realize this now while smelling Pentachord White.
Scents are in many ways like tones, as they are fleeting in nature and continue in vibrations; rarely has this been so clear to me as with this fragrance. Andy Tauer strikes a musical chord with his perfume that conjures the impression of someone bowing the bass string of a cello, and that sound continues infinitely. Those who do not resonate with this sound will have difficulty with Pentachord White. However, those who are on the same wavelength feel gently embraced and secure.
Unfortunately, I am not a musician and cannot name a specific key here, but if I had to guess, I would suspect it is one of those major tones that almost sound like minor chords. The "tone" of Pentachord White fills the space like a sunbeam penetrating through the panes of an attic window, around which dust particles from decades swirl and hum like excited electrons around their nucleus.
Musicians, physicists, and chemists among you may forgive my associations; I am a layperson in all these fields. However, what I can say with utmost certainty - having come into contact with various types of wood through my father - is that Pentachord White captures the sweetness, dryness, and warmth of tropical woods almost perfectly. Alternatively, one can also imagine the most expensive and finest pipe tobacco; years ago, I once procured a special blend for a smoking friend, and although I am a passionate non-smoker, I wandered around like someone enchanted with that little package of private happiness and didn't want to part with it at all.
I think I would not necessarily describe Pentachord White as an everyday perfume, but rather as a special scent for special occasions or a piece of music that one does not consume casually, but savors with all leisure and concentration. This perfume may divide the community of the scented into two camps and perhaps not appeal to many, but one thing it is certainly not: mediocre. Instead, it follows in the footsteps of its ancient predecessors, which were offered as smoke to the gods, thus enabling the dialogue with the celestial and their stars: It is a pure, radiantly bright offering to the majestic sound of the sun.

Andy, Iris, Violet, and I are cutting out pentagonal vanilla crescents at 'Chalet Rosenholz.' His mustache on the neck makes me feel so cozy.

This fragrance consists of only 5 molecules? I’d say that’s at least 30 too few: under-complex, powdery-sweet-synthetic, solid.

Andy and I, most of the time the chemistry just isn't right. There are probably 5 molecules in here that make me feel uncomfortable. I regret that.

Clean, soft, powdery iris, like freshly washed white sheets. But someone seems to have snacked on chocolates in bed...

Iris-vanilla, powdery-fluffy, synthetic-clean, different with ??, wearable, somehow delicious, not immediately accessible to everyone.

It smells fruity, berry, and vanilla on an amber base, the foundation is nicely vanilla, but I’m not a fan of the top note.

If it's going to be a synthetic-scented perfume, then let it be this one. - old construction lab with an attached electro-mechanical workshop.

If you like sweet, powdery scents, you would definitely enjoy this Tauer. Iris and amber take the lead. Too feminine for me.
