Better than (not) expected
When I discover a small, blue and red box in my Easter basket, my father leans over to me: "You collect perfume, don't you? I bought this, but I don't like it at all. Would you like to have it?"
I take the bottle out of the box gratefully, but a little hesitantly. Tommy Forever? Hmm, I don't even know that one yet. The search on Parfumo reveals: The latest flanker of the famous and long-standing Tommy series. Surprisingly, the original Tommy Cologne is already as old as my sister. Awesome!
For a while, around the beginning of the 2010s, Tommy Cologne was in my heavy rotation and I really liked the fragrance profile back then. At some point, however, I reached a point where this EdC was simply too youthful for me and I had the feeling that I had "outgrown" the fragrance. I therefore turned my back on the Tommy range and focused on other fragrances.
Fast forward to Easter 2025, I spray a few drops on my wrist and let Tommy Forever work its magic on me. The fragrance starts off citrusy and a little grassy. This green note is probably the result of sage and patchouli. Unusual, but quite nice. As the fragrance progresses, lavender, ginger and cinnamon come to the fore - the scent becomes noticeably sweeter, but also more masculine. In this phase, the typical Tommy DNA is recognizable, the synthetic shower gel freshness paired with the cinnamony lavender seriousness is exactly what I used to appreciate so much about Tommy Cologne. The fragrance now remains linear until drydown and disappears completely from the skin after about 5 hours. This may not seem like much, but it is perfectly acceptable for a designer in this price range.
Conclusion: The unexpected often happens. Tommy Hilfiger is not reinventing the wheel with Tommy Forever. Nevertheless, I can only find good things about this nice little flanker. It's a green, aquatic freshie that doesn't offend anywhere with its pleasing DNA and can be worn in any situation. Although you shouldn't expect great miracles from either the performance or the fragrance itself, you do get a slightly modernized/polished variation of the already slightly dusty Tommy Cologne DNA for little money. Recommended as a starter fragrance!
