Bottled Weak Citrus
Had high hopes for a fume named "Bold Citrus". Unfortunately, it's definitely not bold. Bottled Bold Citrus DOES open with a very pleasant, juicy citrus scent. It struck me more orange-y than lemon-y. However, within 5 to 10 minutes, the citrus pulls back significantly as the woody notes appear. They are mixed with, I assume, the elemi resin, giving BBC a creamy woody scent as opposed to a sharp vetiver. As it evolves further over 20 to 30 minutes, the citrus takes a definite minor role to the creamy woody scent. Quite an average scent - the same sort of quick transition numerous other freshie citrus fragrances have.

Longevity was moderate - still got whiffs around the 5 hour mark but the citrus was long gone. Projection was moderate as well. Price, even at discounters, is expensive for what it is.

Needs Viagra
After Elixir and then Absolu, I hoped Boss were on a roll here and this would be a Summer equivalent of those...

Err, not quite.

Anther very rare blind buy for me and the last I ever will, but it had just come out and the shelves in duty free were stacked with it (but it was not for sale in my country) but no tester available and the staff would not open one for that purpose.

I bought one anyway because I had my fingers crossed and it was about €60 I think.

Oops.

It smells great. For about 5-15 minutes.
Within 30 minutes, it's a skin scent.
You can overspray this stuff and it makes zero difference.

It's a really nice punchy, slightly sweet citrusy opening and I get a good chunk of mint (that no one else seems to mention) and get Torino 21 vibes (a bit) from it and it looks super funky in that bright green bottle.

But it doesn't perform.

Second bottle? No chance! I'll use the stuff up but when it's gone, it's gone.

Boss bottled bold citrus

Strong citrus fruits in bottles..
...the flanker that nobody wanted. (...just like this review)

Let's be honest, citrus fragrances really don't have it easy in the perfume industry. They are often labeled as "fleeting", "boring" or my absolute favorite as "toilet stone". And when a flanker from Hugo Boss comes along that has the audacity to have "Bold" AND "Citrus" in its name, the eyes of many oud prophets roll faster than my electric lemon squeezer.

From the very first spray, a juicy lemon rises up, not screaming for a cleanser, but summer vacation on the Italian coast...but please wear a suit, because if you listen closely, you can hear typical Boss Bottled DNA softly and in the background. Okay, it doesn't scream, but it whispers to you: "Here I am, your typical slightly sweet foundation with a hint of apple". However, it has been thoroughly "aired out" here.
It's as if the classic Boss wearer had decided to go to a lemon plantation instead of the office, briefcase in one hand and a limoncello in the other.

Ah, Boss Bottled Bold Citrus ...

You forgotten citrus fruit in the shadow of the ultra-sweet vanilla waves, you rebellious splash of lime in the uniform mash of the oud armies, I love you.
Yes, I know that sounds extremely dramatic and perhaps a little exaggerated, but who needs modesty when you come around the corner with such freshness? You are the resurrected lemon sorbet at the funeral of the woody fragrance classic. While many perfumes beg for attention with dark leather accords and heavy incense, you just walk in, throw lemons around and shout: "I'm fresh, I'm here, and I'm fucking really really good!"
Of course, the others wrinkle their noses and say: "That smells like a freshly washed curtain in the summer wind... like a toilet duck clinging desperately to the toilet stone so as not to drown in the whirlpool of the flushing process."

You open the toilet with a big bang, as if a lemon had exploded on my shirt. Lemons, but with peel please. It's as if I'm biting into this lemon while I'm standing on a surfboard being chased by a lemon shark. Adrenaline, freshness, a hint of life crisis...all in one spray.
And then you become gentler, softer, woodier...you settle, but never lose your character. A little wood, a little resin...maybe even a hint of lavender, who knows?
Like the one friend at every party who never leaves. And that's a good thing, because this friend has snacks and a good mood with them.
You don't stay very long, but meeting you is the best time of the day and I know I'll see you again soon. Your Patchouli says goodbye quietly and whispers to me: "I love you too" and then I can't help myself...I take you out of my wardrobe and we are reunited.
Sure, you're not a scent for everyone. You're like a lemon cake with chili...a little too much for delicate souls, but just the thing for people with taste buds that have smelled (almost) everything. And even if you never become the bestseller or the big star in the great perfume universe, you remain a hero to me...my brave lemon knight.

So thank you, Boss Bottled Bold Citrus ...thank you for being there.
Thank you for smelling like you smell and being everything you are and everything you are not.
Thank you for shaking me awake in the gray everyday life of perfume, like an ice-cold lemon smoothie on a Monday morning.

I love you. And this is NOT an (artificial) fragrance mist...this is a REAL, fresh feeling.

I give it 5 out of 5 lemons...with peel

(B)Old Citrus
You could almost call the name cynical and parodic, because there's absolutely nothing bold about this new boss and I wouldn't call it a statement either. A completely solid citrus creamy, however, rather...

"Boss Bold Citrus" does not reinvent the wheel. Not that of Boss, not that of the office fragrance, not that of lemon or cake. Nevertheless, it combines these things unobtrusively and well, so that hardly anyone will say it smells bad. At least not the average consumer. And yet I can well imagine that most perfumers will find this too little. Too little power and grit, too little energy and distinctiveness, too little sparkle and excitement. "Bold Citrus" is a very safe and understated blend of classic Boss DNA and lemon cake meets toilet freshener. The latter is to be read with a massive wink - but it is a little reminiscent of the odd duck or frog in the bathroom... only more office-dimmed. When things get really sweaty and tight, when things get really serious, when it's all about the sausage and the sandwich - then "Bold Citrus" is unfortunately not the right fragrance. It's enough for all warm-ups, rehearsals, training and qualifying sessions. After that, it's better to let the real guys and fragrances take over.

Flacon: green but not particularly bold
Sillage: more delicate than harsh
Longevity: 4-5 hours is already well below a normal "working day" for which the main clientele uses a "Boss" fragrance...

Conclusion: solid and compact citronizer without any real weaknesses or strengths. Craftsmanship from Boss. Minimally upscale mass-produced goods. But only because I always like vetivized lemons on me. Even so ordinary and standard.

Lingering lemon peel accentuated by elemi.
Backbone is piney, spicy, earthy, woody.
Not bold; a classy interplay between citrus and vetiver.

A bright citrus version of BB Absolu this is NOT. Hopes for a bright green patchouli laced summer are not in this flanker.

Great bergamot and lemon peel on the opening. As it dries down, the tartiness of elemi and the Geranium dominate the fragrance. Great!

If you love citrus (like I do) this one is a banger. Some woody depth in the drydown but the first blast really is where its at! ;)

Wore this all day today. For me lasted about 8 hours on skin. Fresh opening, dried down to a smooth patchouli and citrus. Impressed me.
