...the flanker that nobody wanted. (...just like this review)
Let's be honest, citrus fragrances really don't have it easy in the perfume industry. They are often labeled as "fleeting", "boring" or my absolute favorite as "toilet stone". And when a flanker from Hugo Boss comes along that has the audacity to have "Bold" AND "Citrus" in its name, the eyes of many oud prophets roll faster than my electric lemon squeezer.
From the very first spray, a juicy lemon rises up, not screaming for a cleanser, but summer vacation on the Italian coast...but please wear a suit, because if you listen closely, you can hear typical Boss Bottled DNA softly and in the background. Okay, it doesn't scream, but it whispers to you: "Here I am, your typical slightly sweet foundation with a hint of apple". However, it has been thoroughly "aired out" here.
It's as if the classic Boss wearer had decided to go to a lemon plantation instead of the office, briefcase in one hand and a limoncello in the other.
Ah,
Boss Bottled Bold Citrus ...
You forgotten citrus fruit in the shadow of the ultra-sweet vanilla waves, you rebellious splash of lime in the uniform mash of the oud armies, I love you.
Yes, I know that sounds extremely dramatic and perhaps a little exaggerated, but who needs modesty when you come around the corner with such freshness? You are the resurrected lemon sorbet at the funeral of the woody fragrance classic. While many perfumes beg for attention with dark leather accords and heavy incense, you just walk in, throw lemons around and shout: "I'm fresh, I'm here, and I'm fucking really really good!"
Of course, the others wrinkle their noses and say: "That smells like a freshly washed curtain in the summer wind... like a toilet duck clinging desperately to the toilet stone so as not to drown in the whirlpool of the flushing process."
You open the toilet with a big bang, as if a lemon had exploded on my shirt. Lemons, but with peel please. It's as if I'm biting into this lemon while I'm standing on a surfboard being chased by a lemon shark. Adrenaline, freshness, a hint of life crisis...all in one spray.
And then you become gentler, softer, woodier...you settle, but never lose your character. A little wood, a little resin...maybe even a hint of lavender, who knows?
Like the one friend at every party who never leaves. And that's a good thing, because this friend has snacks and a good mood with them.
You don't stay very long, but meeting you is the best time of the day and I know I'll see you again soon. Your Patchouli says goodbye quietly and whispers to me: "I love you too" and then I can't help myself...I take you out of my wardrobe and we are reunited.
Sure, you're not a scent for everyone. You're like a lemon cake with chili...a little too much for delicate souls, but just the thing for people with taste buds that have smelled (almost) everything. And even if you never become the bestseller or the big star in the great perfume universe, you remain a hero to me...my brave lemon knight.
So thank you,
Boss Bottled Bold Citrus ...thank you for being there.
Thank you for smelling like you smell and being everything you are and everything you are not.
Thank you for shaking me awake in the gray everyday life of perfume, like an ice-cold lemon smoothie on a Monday morning.
I love you. And this is NOT an (artificial) fragrance mist...this is a REAL, fresh feeling.
I give it 5 out of 5 lemons...with peel
