Aqua Regia: Complex masterpiece & quick-change artist I A high-performance companion for niche lovers!
The Aqua Regia comes from the former Kemi collection and is said to evoke the brilliance of gold and the resilience of platinum; an "alchemical" masterpiece, and yes, somehow the bottle alone reflects this mysteriousness that the fragrance wants to convey. But what about the contents?
I was allowed to test the Aqua Regia extensively in various situations over several weeks after I had bought another bottle. Here is my conclusion:
- The opening is characterized by an initial freshness based on bergamot and blackcurrant. This freshness is very quickly accompanied by a leather accord, which makes the opening not only special, but also performative from the very beginning.
- A fresh, earthy, almost "wet" patchouli joins in fairly quickly and blends with a sweetness produced by caramel. An aromatic, really marginally liquor-like accord of iris joins in.
- Surprisingly, the fragrance then takes a twist at the end and becomes significantly sweeter and warmer thanks to the bourbon vanilla, creating a contrast to the rather dark patchouli. At the same time, you notice the woody accents and a musk that smells slightly animalistic.
- The fragrance is a quick-change artist and goes through different, contrasting fragrance phases, as you can see, which makes the fragrance exciting overall for people who value the depth of a fragrance!
- The longevity is really in the top third, as is the projection; it's a really performant fragrance that doesn't run out of steam quickly.
Even though I can understand the comparisons to 17 Rosso quite well, I find Aqua Regia more exciting. With 17 Rosso, I find the mint and the rose to be the biggest differences to the fragrance.
Overall, a successful fragrance, but unfortunately not quite my style. Nevertheless, I appreciate the art and idea behind it! It's effectively a masterpiece, just not mine! In addition, it has to be said that my environment really reacted very divided to the fragrance; definitely test it and learn to love it.
