Bergamot Steel and Peppery Wood Earth!

There’s a rumble in the drugstore - especially in the perfume aisles! A "steel" spirit in a bottle!?! Not quite - because it’s not that hard after all. The "steel" primarily refers to the bright bergamot, which is supported in its brilliance by pepper. The tart-fruity blackcurrant also contributes to this impression. Cool - fresh and - STOP - apple in homeopathic doses - thankfully! - Mugwort is only subtly recognizable as a small - slightly "animalistic" ingredient. Also thankfully!
Instead, fine, green jasmine, a bit of birch tar, and earthy scents peel away from their "steel" wrapping.
But what would a chypre be without oak moss, patchouli, and woods? An unfinished, strength-deprived scamp!
Well, they are not missing here! Well-stored among the other pleasant scents. And additionally a bit balsamic. Balanced despite its edges and corners. Not a steel colossus from Rhodes, but a long-lasting and well-projecting "nose food" that presents itself in a quirky, independent manner!

Steel wants to move forward!

I don't know Aventus.
I bought Explorer.
I also got Signature Steel. Both are on my arm.

While Explorer comes across as more refined, Steel is aggressive in scent. But over time, it suddenly reveals a flair of pineapple - the scent that is supposedly attributed to Creed as its unique feature.
Am I imagining things? Or do others of you smell this too?

It does stand out a bit and is - as mentioned - not as reserved as Explorer.
And yet: a clear statement with fresh, fruity components.
This is so different from the woody, earthy scents that I usually prefer.
And yet: energetically clear: this is the (extremely affordable) Signature Steel.
Watch out!

Aventus for 5 euros? No!

So the direction is clearly Aventus, although there is no pineapple here and it is somewhat different. It opens rather with a strong blackcurrant. Immediately appealing. Unfortunately, in the drydown, it becomes a bit worse and lags behind its competitors, but it is not a terrible scent; you can tell we are talking about a 6€ fragrance. The projection is also not comparable to a Club de Nuit Intense Man Eau de Toilette or "Aventus | Creed." Nevertheless, for the price, it's a no-brainer for absolute bargain hunters. However, those willing to spend 25€ or more will find better Aventus alternatives. For the price, there is nothing identical except La Rive, which I generally avoid.

NO Creed Aventus Clone

Out of spontaneous surprise that the tiny (and otherwise poorly stocked) DM on the outskirts of Vienna had Signature Steel sitting in the Câline shelf, this cheapie ended up in my shopping basket today.

I had already tested it last year, in direct comparison with Black Water. Back then, La Rive won due to its quite successful pineapple note. The Câline left no lasting impression and therefore only received a sober statement. Has my opinion about Signature Steel changed?

Yes and no. While I still like Black Water a bit better, something became immediately clear to me during the comparison test today that I simply overlooked (or rather, over-smelled?) back then: Yes, it is a clone. No, it is not a Aventus clone. Because the scent profile was practically copied 1:1 from another very well-known Aventus imitator: Explorer!

The similarities are fascinating; not only in terms of scent, but also in performance, the two Aventusians are as alike as two peas in a pod. Since Explorer was one of my first perfumes and I bought it back then without ever having smelled Aventus, this scent will always have a special connection for me. Although I really like the scent overall and even prefer the scent profile to the original in a way, it was ultimately the lack of longevity and rather weak sillage that kept me from purchasing another (not exactly cheap) bottle. It's nice to see that Câline has managed to completely reproduce the feeling and performance of Explorer for a tenner!

High Expectations, Small Disappointment

First of all, I must say that Câline has set the bar very, very high with the fragrances Powerful Black, Intense Gold, and Infinite Navy.

Unfortunately, Signature Steel is a mispurchase for me, which should be bearable given the price.

Initially fresh and fruity, it quickly reminds me of the typical cheap Eau de Toilette from the drugstore.

In my opinion, this fragrance (unfortunately) joins the few failures of Câline, like Absolute Blue.

For the price-performance ratio, this is all nitpicking at a high level.

Câline remains unbeaten in this price range.
