The Original Purple Kinam
Back from the Oriscent days, Oud Sultani 2001. The original Purple Kinam.
If you ask oud collectors which is their favorite Sultani oil, they'll reply: "There's only one Sultani, and it's Malay".
Furthermore, I believe this statement from Ensar says a lot about the oil, hence I'll quote it here:
"For our second batch of sinking-grade raw materials, we really outdid ourselves. We took the sickest sinking-grade granules, and instead of steel, we put them in a copper pot. The jungle was not too far off from the first batch, so the scent spectrum was meant to be dead-on in that regard. And it was... only better. Much, much better.
'Oud Sultani', as we called it, is the best oil Ensar Oud has ever distilled. While Oud Royale was just about the most masculine and kingly oud one could ever produce, if we were commissioned to produce an oil of equal stature for a Queen, it would be none other than Oud Sultani."
After being impressed with Oud Royale 1, I had to find a way to acquire Sultani. It was not an easy task, yet a rewarding one nonetheless.
The short version of describing this oud oil is if you take the deep, resinous, velvety-smooth oudy quality from OR1, remove the Filaria profile and the blue incense chord, and attach it to this lush bouquet of powdery, purple flowers drenched in golden honey, you get Oud Sultani. The feminine counterpart to OR1. A pristine example of a floral Purple Malay oud oil. And it is pretty, oh so pretty. The Yang to OR1's Yin. It is OR1 set ablaze.
When you apply it on the skin, you are greeted by a bottomless oudiness that will immediately recall OR1. Super clean, deep, smooth, resinous oud. No funk, no leathery tones, no fermentation. Crystal clear, yet deep and ancient-smelling oud. Through this pitch-black background, you can sense fiery purple/red glimmers and golden sweetness. The way this oil progresses is from dark to purple-golden. Slowly and surely, the oudiness makes room for the purple flowers and the honey. I can almost picture a bouquet of violets topped with golden honey. And it becomes increasingly purple and golden sweet the more it lingers on the skin. It opens up and clears out like the sun that rises over the ocean at dawn. Its rays send glittering beams of red and violet over the land and slowly bring light to the darkness. Bottomless, smooth, deep, vibrant, floral, powdery, and sweet. Indeed, it is an oil fit for a Queen or a Goddess. If I were to name a color for it, it would be Purple, the color most often associated with rarity, royalty, and luxury. The initial stages, however, feel more burgundy in color, while the later ones are more golden.
