Beautiful Start, Difficult Finish
Many thanks to Nick for the sample of "Lily Gris Abu Yog | Ensar Oud / Oriscent" :-) From the top and heart notes alone, I was quite taken. Unfortunately, the fragrance has an extremely earthy and musty dry down. The longevity is superb at around 12 hours, and the sillage is more than successful.
The top note smells exceptionally intriguing. On one hand, it is fresh and aquatic, but on the other hand, it is also floral with notes of blue lotus, lily of the valley, and rose water. The heart note briefly has a sweet scent of amber before spices and smoke come into play. I recognize saffron, jasmine tea, frankincense, myrrh, opoponax, and tobacco. The base ruins what could have been a truly beautiful fragrance for me. Unfortunately, the oud brings musty, moldy, earthy, and root-like nuances.
What a shame... there was clearly much more potential here, but I just can't warm up to the earthy cedarwood mustiness.
