I am 25 years old, slightly tanned as I walk through the city of Hanover. I glance here and there into the shops, wearing shorts and a - from today’s perspective - far too tight shirt. Well, the wild 25s, you could do that! My passion for perfume was still at the level of: "Pentydroper." The main thing was that the ladies loved it and it made a good impression. I was still unfamiliar with standing out, just like the multifaceted types of perfumes that I would get to know in the coming years.
So, I step into the next Douglas - I didn’t know any other perfume shops yet - and want to kill some time while waiting for my ex-girlfriend. I spray wildly, without having a clue what I’m actually doing. Completely without sense or reason, you understand me, right? I was mainly focused on the hyped designer brands, so it’s no wonder that I eventually ended up in front of the D&G shelf. Until then, I had actually only owned a bottle of Dior's Fahrenheit, which I bought monthly. So, it’s understandable that I was in the mood for something summery. Right? So, I stand there in front of the shelf, clueless, and only knew: Hey, I want something fresh! Well, since I was too cowardly to ask for advice, I had to test a few of the advertised fragrances there. One caught my attention pretty quickly: Swimming in Lipari! Man, is it fresh, I thought to myself and sprayed it generously on my neck (I wouldn’t do that today!).
After that, I continued my stroll through the city and headed to Peek & Cloppenburg to meet my girlfriend, without knowing what a memorable moment was about to happen. I was browsing through the clothing racks, looking here and there for something new, when suddenly and completely unexpectedly, a young lady (around her mid-30s) approached me and asked what perfume I was wearing. I was blown away that it was received so well and that I was about to receive my first compliment in my young perfume career. Today, I mostly wear perfume for myself, but back then it was really great!
And folks, what did I do?
Right!
Back I went to Douglas and bought the D&G.
But what can it actually do - even from today’s perspective?
First, I want to emphasize that this freshy is significantly undervalued here. I even think it’s the nicest of the fresh D&Gs. It also has its own character and that special something, unlike its relatives. I know, you’re probably thinking: Man, is he biased! Well, that may be somewhat true, but I still want to explain myself :)
First of all, it must be noted that this scent is not citrus-fresh, but aquatic-fresh! So, anyone expecting a lot of citrus will surely be disappointed. It belongs to the fragrance family of Cool Water and Co., and you can already tell that after the first spray. Mandarin and grapefruit quickly blend with the sea salt to create an indefinable fruity-aquatic mix that is supposed to last long. This is complemented by slightly woody-fresh notes. Unfortunately, I can’t detect any rosemary. The scent is completely straightforward, which is very pleasant for a summer fragrance. It immediately evokes images of the sea, summer, vacation, and endlessly long beaches, which the regular Light Blue or the Intense version cannot achieve. You immediately wish for a cocktail in hand and see yourself lounging under palm trees.
And now comes the kicker: This thing has real punch! For me, it’s indestructible, lasting about 8-9 hours, and at least in the first three hours, it has a great sillage. I was actually approached quite often about it, even several hours after applying. For me, it’s still my personal insider tip for the coming summer.
The only downside: Yes, I admit it, it does tend to have a slight synthetic quality. Phew, now it’s out....Hehe...
And my ex?
Yes, I met her too, and she loved it right away and was more than okay with the spontaneous purchase (back then, we paid more attention to money when it came to perfume!). And what can I say, I will order it again for the coming summer and hope to get my hands on a bottle since it is unfortunately no longer being produced.
So, if anyone is looking for something brilliant for the beach vacation or the new German heat, go for it!
