Woeful
I was subconsciously looking forward to this despite my conscious mind knowing better... Turns out my thinking brain isn't as stupid as I had previously feared.
An awful release with very little in common with the original or any of its predecessors, except amen ultimate (also made by L'Oréal) as that was absolutely terrible as well.

Amen, one of the great masculine perfumes of all time, is dead and so, it seems to me, is designer perfume.

Nice new blend with some similarities but enough differences
This is my first try of the most recent release from the Mugler A*Men line, Fantasm, the first new flanker to this line since A*Men Ultimate was released in 2019. The main notes listed on the Mugler website are bergamot, dark chocolate, and patchouli, so with patchouli being so pivotal to the original, I take it that the dark chocolate is what is meant to stand out and be the most distinguishing characteristic of this particular flanker. I quite love the chocolate/patchouli blend with a touch of powderiness.

However, in Fantasm, especially in the opening, I get familiar wafts of Pure Coffee and Pure Havane and especially Pure Tonka, all previous, great, discontinued entries in the A*Men line that are among my very favorites of the line, along with Pure Malt, my very favorite.

Overall, though, I think it both stands out enough and performs well enough to be worth buying, especially considering that the retail pricing of the line of $90 for 100ml (EDP concentration) remains, in my opinion, very reasonable in the current market.

The mugler s interpretation of trends
I was more convinced by its presence than its composition. After stopping by a perfumery and trying a few things that didn't represent any originality or spark any enthusiasm; and after several hours with a Fantasm spray in my hand, noticing that it was still very present and rich, I decided to buy it on impulse. Then I decided it was just another sweet perfume among others, which perhaps stood out in performance. It's somewhat linear, with pronounced but imperceptible citrus notes at the start. This opening is plasticky and somewhat alcoholic, and the sweet chocolate quickly reveals itself with something like menthol, probably patchouli. Not much more than that, without disregarding the perfume. It's good, rich, enjoyable, and long-lasting, but not much more.

First thoughts, this is a chocolate, citrus aromatic fragrance for men.

- A*Men Fantasm starts with a chocolatey sweet scent, and an aromatic spicy pink pepper followed by it. After about 30 minutes it turns to a patchouli +spicy dark chocolate scent.

- I sprayed a total of 5 times. Twice behind each ear, twice on the front of neck, and once in front of my chest. The longevity is okay, it lasts approximately 6-8 hours on my skin, and a few day on my clothes. This fragrance projects great too. (Depends on skin types)

Overall Rating (8/10)
It's a crowd pleasing scent, with very little wow-factor. If you have smelled the original Mugler, you might find this is a bit disappointing to say the least. But if you enjoy chocolate scent, you might enjoy this one

FANTASM

Rating is absurdly low. A*Men DNA is present without a doubt. Less tar, less patchouli, but it’s still earthy. Beautiful. Not weak either.

It's like a follow-up to Pure Havane. Sadly, times have changed over the past 15 years, and this style of scent now seems old-fashioned.

Quite nice opening but after a while cheap smelling as other mainstream "perfumes". Better than other 2024 releases but it is a low level.

Very nice dark chocolate, delicious and manly at the same time. Lasts long and projects well too

A legend revived just to fit sweet coconut-ish trend currently exploited in men's frags. Dark chocolate w/ coconut - you smelled it before.

Bold, strong and thick opening of dark chocolate filled with viscous alcohol + peppery spice, but after an hour dies down a bit boring.

More Pure Havane than OG. A bit monochromatic. The opening is really good actually but it dries down flat. Still a good masculine scent

Invictus Victory Elixir/Le Beau Le Parfum but in A*Men style and way better. It's missing the oldschool A*Men EDT note which I dislike

As a patchouli hater, this is actually decent, but kind of synthetically sweet fruity chocolate. Very JPG sweet territory of that's your thing.
