Boring
I've been reading a lot of criticism of Mugler lately since she was acquired by L'Oreal. The scents appear to be flatter, shelf life appears to be considerably shorter and the originality of the latest scents appears to be below par. Personally, I can never do much with this kind of criticism. A scent is nice or not for me.
I am not a fan of the Mugler fragrances myself. Have Aura in my collection. Barely worn and eventually gave it away.
I was very curious about this Elixir. The fragrance notes do not seem special. But you expect an intense and special scent from Mugler and from an Elixir. I sprayed this scent full of anticipation. I had to sniff twice before I could perceive the smell. It opens with a recognizable vanilla note and white flowers. The vanilla continues to develop and the white flowers disappear to the back. I couldn't think of what this scent reminded me of. And suddenly I recognized Good Fortune by Viktor & Rolf. The vanilla and white flowers are one to one.
It's a very light scent. The staying power on my skin is also below par.
The scent represents a lot except what an Elixir and the perfume house Mugler stands for. It's boring, unoriginal, bad sillage and shelf life. But no bad smell anywhere.
Unfortunately, I recognized the criticisms I've been reading so much lately since the takeover about Mugler...

A daring DNA thrashed by mediocrity…
Oh L’Oréal… Why did you have to do my darling Angel dirty like this.
I really don’t wanna sound sour about this release but it’s hard for me not to. As someone that grew up in the Clarins Mugler era, this acquisition by L’Oréal is constantly a roller coaster of emotions. Alien Goddess Eau de Parfum Supra Florale? I love it. Fantasquatic? Love it!.. But this? This ain’t it, and it pains me to write a review like this for a house I hold in such high esteem.

Bright slightly metallic pink pepper and lush jasmine greets my nose in the opening. Now I like this part, I like white florals and Jasmine is dear to me, but after around 30 minutes however, I knew this was going to be vanilla dominant with that lingering powdery texture lurking behind the florals.
The orange blossom and ylang ylang are hanging out amidst the jasmine, bringing out a slightly fruity nuance to the composition, but I mainly smell jasmine in the heart.

After a little over an hour, this scent becomes unbearable on my skin unfortunately, which is the same thing that happens with Luna Rossa Ocean Eau de Parfum (which has the same base accord); just overly powdery sweet Amberwood.
I understand the direction L’Oréal wanted to go with this – "...augmented femininity of today’s fearless supra-women", but wow is this execution poor; the new “Supra-woman” smells like every other person out there? Because when I can draw comparisons to another L’Oréal distributed (the aforementioned, Ocean EdP) fragrance that is sad, not surprising just sad. I firmly believe this would have worked better as an Alien flanker if I am quite honest. If I had smelled this scent coming from an its faceted talisman, I would not have second guessed it – swap the Sandalwood for a Cashmeran accord and I would fully believe this to be a part of the Alien family.

To be clear, this is not disappointment directed towards the perfumers of this scent, they are making their living, this is disappointment directed at L’Oréal for pushing mediocrity. I have yet to sample Angel Fantasm, but I’m hoping they learned their lesson from this fragrance, and actually created a flanker worthy of the Angel name, and not something like this vanillic Amberwood mess of a fragrance. All of these things combined with a price tag that’s best left to privé designer offerings and “artistic niche” fragrances, this release has just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Angel? Elixir? Where??
This is neither related to the original Angel in any form, nor what I would expect from something called Elixir. To me, it's one of the most disappointing Angel flankers ever. Not because it smells bad, the scent itself is all right, but because it's such a weird move to put it in that dark blue Angel bottle. I never found the frequent flankers for Angel (and also Alien) super innovative, even before Mugler went to L'Oréal, but I liked that they always had traces of the famous pillar fragrances.

Angel Elixir would honestly make more sense as a flanker to YSL Black Opium, something about it reminds me of that one. I can't quite put my finger on it, something about the interaction between the vanilla and the florals maybe. But as a huge Black Opium apologist and fan, I also want to stress that Black Opium is a much nicer composition.

Angel Elixir smells like a run-of-the-mill white floral vanilla, of which there have been so many in the last ~5 years. The vanilla in it is creamy, milky and has a plasticy undertone. I don't hate it, vanilla scents like that give me a cute, nostalgic vibe. The floral notes on the other hand are a bit too undefined and cleaned-up fot my taste. I can't say that this perfume smells like jasmine, orange blossom and ylang-ylang, to me it just smells vaguely white floral.
The only note that breaks up the sweetness is a touch of pink pepper, but it's not enough to make the scent exciting.

To be completely honest, I might have seen this scent in a better light if I didn't know it was supposed to be an Angel. But even then, it's just not a mind-blowing fragrance. It's okay, it's fine, I wouldn't mind smelling it somewhere, and that's it.

Not a fan
Peppery front does fade but quite strong in the beginning. Long term (3-4 hours) fragrance still strong but has a powdery overlay. Scent seems similar to much older and vintage scents but with a brighter or fruitier note. Pretty significant strength and longevity.

Wouldn’t buy long term but could be a good fit for someone who likes Chanel No. 5 or other vintage scents and wants something that will last all day long.

No, this is not an alien fragrance, so please read this! :D
Hey guys! Yes, I'm still here, and yes I know I haven't written anything lately, but I've just been busier. I'll probably be writing a little less often here for a while, but when I have more time again or have collected enough fragrance samples, I might start posting more regularly again, but probably not until next year (my Christmas blog is definitely coming :D). So, for now, let's talk about the fragrance here:

Well, where should I start? I could complain that you women don't actually like Mugler fragrances, then I'd call you idiots and, well, you know what I mean! d
Well, on the other hand, this is not about an alien fragrance, which you all detest... you idiots!!... but about the Angel range of this brand. You know, the range of fragrances that was quite intense, especially at the beginning with the EDT and EDP, which not everyone necessarily liked because it just smelled so different and unusual. Over the years, I have tried a few Angels, including some good and some less successful fragrances, as it happens.

And when I saw Elixir on the shelf, I thought that I could present a reasonably up-to-date fragrance here again. Of course, I tried the fragrance as soon as the store opened, when there were hardly any customers around, because I still have problems spraying certain women's fragrances on my arm in public. But in the morning it worked, so I took off my awesome Batman shoulder bag (you know I'm a nerd, so I had to mention Batman in a review again after all this time, he he), took off my jacket, rolled up my shirt and sprayed myself. Well, and this is my impression of it now:

The fragrance:
The first thing you notice is that the fragrance does not immediately begin with the typical Angel DNA. The top note, even though it already seems to smell opulent, is even softer here with a slightly fruity-berry sweetness, which comes from the pink pepper, which despite its name does not really smell like pepper and is not related to it.
In any case, you can soon smell the typical sweetness of jasmine, which is pleasantly fragrant.
What I like less is the ylang-ylang, which I don't like in any fragrance. Fortunately, it is only used discreetly here, but it is still a fragrance note that bothers me because, for me personally, it is one of the fragrance notes that I don't like at all...
In the base, the berry-fruity scent has long since disappeared again, now the typical, long-lasting sweet scent notes come in, above all the vanilla, which comes across a little less intensely here than in most other fragrances.
Ylang-ylang can still be smelled. The ylang-ylang initially becomes much more intense in the base, but this does not last so long (lucky :D), so that a little later you can only smell the ylang-ylang to some extent in the background, and the base actually consists almost exclusively of warm fragrance notes such as mainly vanilla.

The sillage and the longevity:
The sillage is quite strong, although there are much stronger Angel fragrances. I don't really have to write anything about the longevity here, as usual the fragrance easily lasts 8-10 hours, even longer on clothing.

The bottle:
The bottle is shaped like the famous Mugler star and looks wonderful and creative. This time it has a dark blue fragrance liquid. The last "prong" of the star on the bottle is again chrome-plated and has the spray head integrated so that no lid is necessary.
All in all, the design has hardly changed, but it doesn't have to, as I personally find the Angel bottles just as wonderfully designed as the Alien bottles.

Conclusion:
Well, I don't think the fragrance is as bad as you might think from the rather average reviews here on Parfumo, but everyone has slightly different tastes. Anyway, this fragrance seems to move a little more away from the original Angel DNA and takes a less spicy, more sweet-gourmand direction. Of course, one flaw that I could mention is the fact that the fragrance smells a little too generic and sweet from the heart note and especially from the base. By that I mean that the way it smells, you already know many fragrances. And without an intense Angel DNA, something is lost here in terms of recognizability, but well, I wouldn't necessarily say that the fragrance is therefore bad, it just perhaps belongs to the somewhat less successful Angel fragrances. Especially for me, because the ylang-ylang just annoys the hell out of me, but even that doesn't last, as the late base only smells sweet.

I think gourmand or sugary-sweet fans could definitely enjoy the fragrance if their expectations are not high enough. You simply have to try it for yourself. And I bet some of you still prefer to test this fragrance rather than the great Alien Goddess or Alien Hypersense (or Alien fragrances in general)... ufff... did I already call you ladies idiots? :DD

In any case, the fragrance is wearable from fall and winter, on warm days such fragrances are really oppressive. I would recommend wearing it in the evening or when going out, a fragrance like this every day at school/university/work might be a bit too exhausting for others :))

Well, that's it from me again, have a nice evening and I hope to write here more often again in the near future, see you then :)

Pretty soft floral, inoffensive and cute, smells nothing like the original. For people who dislike Angel but love Angel's bottle.

A powdery white floral, not at all unique, with no real depth. None of the promised woods, amber, or spice comes through.

I think it’s nice, although synthetic for sure. It dries down to a powdery scent that’s subtle. Very much a neutral scent.

Blast of flowers up front, creamy base emerges in the dry down. Unlike its big sister, a very average and uncontroversial scent.
