Rooibos, vanilla, and cola ;)

My second review on this app and it's another banger, today we're talking about the one and only Ruby from Nebiru.

Before I give u my detailed review on this fragrance I want to explain what the smell reminds me of and why it does that. This fragrance to me feels like ur at home making a rooibos tea but with some vanilla added, as well as some cola which is quite an interesting combo. I was very happy to find a fragrance that is actually unique and artistic, because many brands use the same boring combo's. This fragrance is the only fragrance I know that has a rooibos tea accord which is kind of nice.

Let's talk about the development of the fragrance on my skin. Ruby for me opens up quite fresh with the bergamot but also some cola and rum. I'm not a big fan of the opening because it's an explosion of scents, but after 15-20 minutes the Ouds and sandalwoods start to come out and because of that the fragrance starts getting more complex.

After about the 30th minute all the notes start to calm down and come together in Harmony, props to Frederic for making this absolute Beauty. About the ouds in this fragrance, Frederic uses High quality ingredients as we all know but in this fragrance particularly he uses Indonesian, Assam and Borneo oud. If u didn't know it already Assam oud comes from India so it's more animalic yet I get no animalics in this fragrance whatsoever. I do get the Indonesian and Borneo ouds which are fresher and earthy ouds so logically way less animalic. That doesn't mean this fragrance is mass appealing tho, u should never assume that an indie fragrance from this level is mass appealing even though the notes seem good.

After about an hour I get the last changes because the Ambregris finally decided to come out. After the beautiful white, grey, and brown ambregris come out the fragrance changes and gets a bit saltier which is kind of a weird add to a sweet rooibos/oud fragrance. Nevertheless this fragrance is beautifully composed and blended with high end raw/natural ingredients.

On my skin this fragrance lasts at least 8-10 hours and has a great sillage for the first 4 hours or so, after that it lingers closer to the skin but it still projects. To sum up, all u have to think of when smelling this fragrance is a rooibos tea with some vanilla, a cold cola drink and finally some woods.

Rich and Complex

Ruby starts off as a spicy ambergris sandalwood bomb, which later evolves as a blast of cola, rum, and rooibos tea all shine through with some supporting sweet florals. The ambergris in the fragrance comes off spicy and not aquatic; the ouds are muted in the background, working together with the sandalwood to give it a strong woody base. To me it is a master of a blend, though I would prefer it if it were more oudy instead of sandalwood; that's just my personal preference. It is a very rich and complex scent where all of the notes combine together harmoniously to bring you an elegant, warm sweetness. Its a safe and mass appealing scent.

Coming Home

A long day is coming to an end. My legs are tired from hiking, yet I feel satisfied and filled with the impressions of this magnificent landscape. We are on the coast in the southwest of England. I spend half the year here, in a landscape shaped by wind and sea, far away from the bustling world.

In this wild environment lies my little cabin, right at the gateway to the roaring ocean. The light from the still-burning fireplace flickers through the windows. The feeling of coming home flows through my body. A feeling that has the power to carry away any loneliness. The anticipation of warmth and security fills every cell.

Upon arriving at the cabin, I add some firewood and set a small pot of rooibos tea on the stove. As on every evening, my gaze rests on the last rays of sunlight from a day full of impressions. On the horizon, I see a whale's tail touching the red sky and welcoming the night. With the warm scent of rooibos tea and the feeling of home, I drift off to sleep, wrapped in a blanket, in front of the fireplace.
I would like to dedicate this and the upcoming reviews of this house to the feeling of coming home and being at home. This scent is so cozy, warm, and comforting that it carries me to a place that stands as a haven amidst a wild landscape.

Frederic uses exceptionally high-quality ingredients that evoke a deep sense of closeness and inner warmth in their composition. For me, the defining note in this fragrance is the rooibos tea, combined with the depth and warmth of ambergris. Cinnamon gently lays over it, enhancing a velvety, soft sensation.

These nuances blend together with a wonderful combination of various fragrance notes such as sandalwood or a fine cola note into a warm, subtly sweet embrace.
Thank you for the feeling of coming home, dear Frederic.

Sweet-Spicy Rum-Cola - lots of sandalwood, little animalic but with a solid balsamic depth

After multiple attempts to make the development of this special fragrance tangible, the moment has finally come to share my impressions of Ruby (my first full bottle purchase from Nebiru) - in the hope that I can get it right after the third time, because on the skin it feels different than on a strip (which is clear) :D

Upon spraying:
The scent starts with a distinctly spicy, dark-sweet (almost resinous) rum-cola note. Alongside a slight hint of cinnamon, there is also a certain floral quality. I have smelled this in Mandalay before and would therefore guess it is champaca and frangipani.
The opening of Ruby is loud. Nothing that goes unnoticed. The room knows you have entered.

15 minutes later:
A very slight animalic note from the oud comes in, but it is very, very subtle. At no point is it a 'stinky oud', even throughout the entire duration. The great thing about Ruby: You don’t want to stop smelling the spray spot due to this complex composition at the beginning :D Each time you get a slightly new scent, especially depending on whether it’s a cold or warmer, sunny or rainy day. It’s as if someone wants to whisk you away to a sweet wonderland *haha*

45 minutes after spraying:
There is actually little transformation. This might be a good thing, as the opening is a true fireworks display, although the complexity of the top note can only be detected with very careful, repeated "sniffing" at the arm. Viewed bluntly, the first three-quarters of an hour is primarily dominated by this spicy, dark-sweet rum-cola.

After 1.5 hours:
The initially strong (resinous? incense-like?) sweetness fades slightly. By now, you can really notice the very strong, intense sandalwood base of Ruby. Since no vetiver is indicated, I would guess it is this special Timorese sandalwood that brings a more earthy touch? The scent becomes more balsamic, calmer.

After 2.5 hours:
Ruby is further characterized by a balsamic-sweet spiciness with (sandal)wood. The drydown is indeed a bit "boring," more linear, although the complexity at the beginning has spoiled you a bit ;-)

The scent still projects strongly but gradually loses power. This does not affect its longevity, and you can tell it will last for hours.

After 4.5 hours:
Ruby is now only perceptible up close and has, as I suspected, brought little surprise with it. Bluntly, one could describe it as a (large) piece of sandalwood with balsamic-sweet spiciness.
This DNA will also be maintained until the end, although the spiciness will fade over the next 3 hours.

After 12 hours, Ruby is only very close to the skin in the form of a light, balsamic-resinous 'breeze' on my skin. The entire drydown is not abrasive and not challenging. The indicated oud mainly serves for point accentuation and brings no animalic notes with it. It doesn’t have to: For those who think "oud" directly means "must be a stinker!", fragrances like Ruby show that there is still much beyond the personal fragrance horizon :-)

Conclusion:
Cuba Libre in Nebiru style.

Once again, a very beautiful, very successful release from Frederic. Beginner-friendly, very elegant with its own, new DNA. Frederic's signature, which in my opinion is characterized by a balsamic-spicy sweetness, is found like in almost no other.
Suitable for going out without screaming "Niche" brutally, but it is still "loud." One must be aware of that ;-)
I see the fragrance suitable for both men and women (or everything in between and outside), but leaning towards the masculine.

My first full bottle from Nebiru Parfums and I have a feeling it won’t be my last :D

Rooibos and a Touch of Magic

First of all, I must say that Nebiru has quickly become one of my absolute favorite brands. The quality speaks for itself, and the scents evoke so many emotions. That’s exactly why I bought Ruby as soon as it was available for pre-order.

When it arrived, I was super excited, but I had no idea what it might smell like, aside from the video by JoNoir stating that it should smell like rooibos tea, sandalwood, and vanilla. And yes, right from the first spray, it totally reminds me of rooibos tea, which brings back childhood memories for me. Along with that, there’s a lot of sandalwood and a herbal vanilla - for me, these are also the main players that consistently accompany the scent. What really makes Ruby special: The fragrance reveals new facets with each wear - from spiciness, cola accord, to fine animalic notes from ambergris, delicate floral notes, and even woody oud.

Overall, Ruby gives me a certain vintage vibe. You can immediately tell it’s a Nebiru, but the "Magic Drop" is noticeably more subtle here than in other scents from the brand.

The longevity and sillage are good - the scent is present but not overpowering and lasts just under 11 hours on my skin.

I really don’t know how Frederic can offer this quality at this price... World-class!
