Rooibos, vanilla, and cola ;)

My second review on this app and it's another banger, today we're talking about the one and only Ruby from Nebiru.

Before I give u my detailed review on this fragrance I want to explain what the smell reminds me of and why it does that. This fragrance to me feels like ur at home making a rooibos tea but with some vanilla added, as well as some cola which is quite an interesting combo. I was very happy to find a fragrance that is actually unique and artistic, because many brands use the same boring combo's. This fragrance is the only fragrance I know that has a rooibos tea accord which is kind of nice.

Let's talk about the development of the fragrance on my skin. Ruby for me opens up quite fresh with the bergamot but also some cola and rum. I'm not a big fan of the opening because it's an explosion of scents, but after 15-20 minutes the Ouds and sandalwoods start to come out and because of that the fragrance starts getting more complex.

After about the 30th minute all the notes start to calm down and come together in Harmony, props to Frederic for making this absolute Beauty. About the ouds in this fragrance, Frederic uses High quality ingredients as we all know but in this fragrance particularly he uses Indonesian, Assam and Borneo oud. If u didn't know it already Assam oud comes from India so it's more animalic yet I get no animalics in this fragrance whatsoever. I do get the Indonesian and Borneo ouds which are fresher and earthy ouds so logically way less animalic. That doesn't mean this fragrance is mass appealing tho, u should never assume that an indie fragrance from this level is mass appealing even though the notes seem good.

After about an hour I get the last changes because the Ambregris finally decided to come out. After the beautiful white, grey, and brown ambregris come out the fragrance changes and gets a bit saltier which is kind of a weird add to a sweet rooibos/oud fragrance. Nevertheless this fragrance is beautifully composed and blended with high end raw/natural ingredients.

On my skin this fragrance lasts at least 8-10 hours and has a great sillage for the first 4 hours or so, after that it lingers closer to the skin but it still projects. To sum up, all u have to think of when smelling this fragrance is a rooibos tea with some vanilla, a cold cola drink and finally some woods.

Rich and Complex

Ruby is a fragrance that I fell in love with from the day I got my nose on it. To every nose it is slightly different because of skin chemistry and high concentration of natural oils, so I will only describe what it is like to me. Ruby is a rich, creamy rooibos tea + cola accord in combination with some smooth ouds and soft ambergris in the background, giving it a very complex and unique overall scent profile. It is a warm and inviting smell, woody, sweet, and spicy.

Very unique, very complex, very appealing.

Coming home

A long day is coming to an end. My legs are tired from walking, but I am still satisfied and filled with the impressions of this stunning landscape. We are on the coast in the southwest of England. I live here for half the year, in a landscape shaped by wind and sea, far away from the busy world.

In these wild surroundings lies my little cottage, right at the gateway to the roaring ocean. The light from the still-burning fireplace flickers through the windows. The feeling of coming home flows through my body. A feeling that has the power to carry away any loneliness. The anticipation of warmth and security fills every cell.

Once I arrive at the hut, I add some firewood and put on a small pot of rooibos tea. Like every evening, my gaze rests on the last rays of sunshine of a day full of impressions. On the horizon, I can see a whale fluke touching the red sky and welcoming the night. With the warm scent of rooibos tea and the feeling of home, I fall asleep wrapped in a blanket in front of the fireplace.
I would like to dedicate this and future reviews of this house to the feeling of coming home and being at home. This fragrance is so cuddly, warm and comforting that it carries me to a place that stands like a haven of peace in the middle of a wild landscape.

Frederic uses exceptionally high-quality ingredients, the composition of which evokes a deep feeling of closeness and inner warmth. For me, the dominant note in this fragrance is rooibos tea, combined with the depth and warmth of ambergris. Cinnamon lies gently on top and enhances a velvety, soft feeling.

These nuances come together with a wonderful combination of different scents such as sandalwood or a subtle hint of cola to create a warm, subtly sweet embrace.
Thank you for the feeling of coming home, dear Frederic.

Sweet and spicy rum and cola - lots of sandalwood, few animal notes but plenty of balsamic depth

After trying several times to make the development of this special fragrance tangible, the moment has finally come to share my impressions of Ruby (first full bottle purchase of Nebiru) - hoping that I will get it together after the 3rd time, because on the skin it works even differently than on the strip (which is clear) :D

Spray on:
The fragrance starts with a distinctive, spicy, dark-sweet (almost resinous) rum and cola note. In addition to a light cinnamon note, there is also a certain floral/floral note. I have smelled these before in Mandalay and would therefore guess champaca and frangipani.
The Ruby's start is loud. Nothing that doesn't make you stand out. The room knows that you have entered it.

15 minutes later:
The oud adds a very slight animalic note, albeit very, very subtle. At no point is it a 'stinky oud', even over the entire duration. The great thing about Ruby is that you don't want to stop smelling the spray at the beginning because of this complex composition :D You can easily smell something new every time, especially if it's a cold or warm, sunny or rainy day. It's like someone wants to whisk you away to a sweet wonderland *haha*

45 minutes after spraying:
Little change actually. But that's probably a good thing, because the opening is a real firework, although you can only smell the complexity of the top note when you "sniff" your arm very carefully several times. In blunt terms, the first three-quarters of an hour is dominated by this spicy, dark-sweet rum and cola.

After 1.5 hours:
The (resinous? incense?) sweetness, which is still very present at the beginning, subsides somewhat. At this point at the latest, you notice the very strong, intense sandalwood base of Ruby. Since no vetiver is specified, I would guess this special Timorese sandalwood, which brings a rather earthy touch with it? The fragrance now becomes more balsamic, calmer.

After 2.5 hours:
The Ruby is still characterized by a balsamic-sweet spiciness with (sandal) wood. The drydown is actually a little more "boring", more straightforward, although the complexity at the beginning also spoils you a little ;-)

The fragrance still projects strongly, but gradually loses its power. This does not detract from its longevity and you can tell that it will last for hours.

After 4.5 hours:
Ruby is now only perceptible at close quarters and, as I had already guessed, had few surprises in store. It could be described as a (large) piece of sandalwood with a sweet, balsamic spiciness.
It will retain this DNA until the end, although the spiciness will dry up over the next 3 hours.

After 12 hours, the Ruby only lingers very close to my skin in the form of a light, balsamic-resinous 'breeze'. The drydown as a whole is not very teasing or challenging. The oud is mainly used for selective accentuation and does not add any animalic notes. It doesn't have to: anyone who immediately thinks "must be a stinker!" when they hear "oud" will realize that there is still a lot beyond their personal fragrance horizon :-)

Conclusion:
Cuba Libre in nebiru-ish.

Once again a very nice, very successful release from Frederic. Beginner-friendly, very classy with its own new DNA. Frederic's signature, which in my eyes is characterized by a balsamic-spicy sweetness, can be found like almost no other.
Suitable for going out without brutally screaming "NISH", but it's still "loud". You have to be aware of that ;-)
See the fragrance on both males and females (or everything in between and outside), but with a tendency towards masculinity.

My first full bottle of Nebiru Parfums and I have a feeling it won't be my last :D

Rooibos and a little magic

First of all, I have to say that Nebiru has become one of my absolute favorite brands in record time. The quality speaks for itself and the fragrances convey so many emotions. That's exactly why I bought Ruby as soon as it came in for pre-order.

When it arrived, I was really excited, but had no idea what it might smell like until I saw JoNoir's video, which said it smelled of rooibos tea, sandalwood and vanilla. And yes, it totally reminds me of rooibos tea right from the first spray, which totally brings back childhood memories for me. There is also a lot of sandalwood and a herbaceous vanilla - for me, these are also the main players that accompany the fragrance throughout. But what makes Ruby really special is that the fragrance reveals new facets every time you wear it - from cinnamon and cola accords to the fine animal notes of ambergris, delicate floral notes and woody oud.

In general, Ruby gives me a certain vintage vibe. You immediately notice that it is a Nebiru, but the "magic drop" is much more subtle here than in other fragrances from the brand.

The longevity and sillage are good - the fragrance is present but not overpowering and lasts for almost 11 hours on my skin.

I really don't know how Frederic can offer this quality at this price... World class!
