Red Glowing on Frosty Ice
A hot-cold affair, this fragrance. Like the glow of hot iron on frostily shimmering ice. Even the initial scent reminds one of orange fire (grapefruit) that blazes in snow (bergamot, pepper). A beautiful start. Then it gets hotter and hotter. The glow of many candles seems to heat the air. The saffron (hot), the rose (hotter), and the cardamom (hottest) really turn up the heat.
In between, the fire is stoked further, with a bit of balsamic smoke, pure olibanum, and some myrrh.
This hot phase lasts quite a while. However, underneath, something cool seems to creep in. At first, almost imperceptibly, the olfactory temperature drops. This should be due to vetiver and cedar. The whole thing takes on a slightly blue hue amidst its red-orange splendor. One can feel the now icy sensation when moving away from the "fire pit"; as one approaches again, first comes the pleasant warmth of amber, then, even closer, the heat-radiating power of a crackling wood fire. All in all, a well-executed smoky-spicy fine fragrance with good longevity and "radiance." Both in the cold and hot sense!
