For me, the better Baccarat Rouge 540! A fruity upgrade to fall in love with, but with a problem...
Through this fragrance, I got to know B540 and now have it as a sample beside me. When I first smelled the Dua, I was very confused and shocked:
“What the hell smells so chemical here… like a dentist… this shouldn’t be in any perfume!”
My girlfriend was almost disgusted :D But eventually, my curiosity won, and I started to engage with this scent. Not even 5 days later, I was addicted to this top note… exactly the note when you smell at the spray head of the Dua:
It is a very unique note that resembles the real BR 540 but doesn’t quite lean towards marzipan. The dentist note is not only dampened by a slightly sweet fruit but also enhanced. I love this note indescribably. I find BC 540 somewhat disturbing at times, as strong almond & marzipan impulses keep coming back. These appear initially with the Dua but are then milder and end in a light fruit. Peach? For me, that’s not a peach. It feels like an indefinable fruit that has a healthy mix of nature and synthetics.
Over time, the BC540 note fades a bit, resulting in a mix of gentle fruit and BC540. While I always imagine BC540 as very neutral or with the color white, the Dua is somewhat creamy orange. The dry down is then very close to the original. It feels a bit smoother, and I can only highly recommend it.
However, the performance is unfortunately only “ok” for me. While the real BC540 has a truly impressive performance, the new Dua combo is good but becomes quite close to the skin after 4 hours. The scent lasts “only” 6-9 hours and doesn’t project as extremely. Still, for me, it is indeed the better BC540. Just so easy to fall in love with!
