Oriental civet cat & fruity-sweet rose oud chewy candy... funny? Yes, but still beautiful!
Sometimes I have the feeling that the reviews are to a large extent simply driven by the first reviews. Sometimes I can't explain it any other way. I hope that everyone simply rates the fragrance subjectively for themselves and doesn't allow themselves to be influenced too much, because with Dubai - Fakhama it would be effectively sad to portray it so negatively; because this is definitely not the fragrance!
Let's get into it:
- the opening of Dubai - Fakhama is beautifully fruity and sweet; indeed, the dried fruits come through strongly and create a really beautiful bubble of an oriental dessert. After this fruity-sweet opening, a beautiful rose joins in, which is underpinned by the oud - which smells absolutely not animalic or fecal - beautifully sweet. Rose, oud and the sweetness of the fruit share the space quite well, although the fruitiness fades a little after a while.
- The rose then takes over a little and blends with a beautiful spicy saffron note; velvety, yet intense. A slight earthiness from the cypriol joins in the background, balancing this fruity sweetness. In the drydown, a slightly animalic civet is added, which gives the fragrance a nice twist; yes, it is unique in its form and also somehow exciting; but it is also quite well balanced with the amber and the caramel.
- The longevity and sillage are definitely above average; typical of SoD, you can't complain about that.
Overall, and you can actually hear it for yourself, we have a beautiful rose oud here, which is quite exciting, but still very wearable in everyday life. It's not a fragrance that is massively challenging, but can be worn by anyone - and still has something special about it. The fruity sweetness at the beginning, the beautiful rose-oud-saffron combo in the heart and the somewhat animalic drydown with civet.
Yes, we might have expected more rough edges, or perhaps another typical rose-oud constellation, but let's be honest, we complain about everything somehow. Viewed in isolation, it is simple and simply a beautiful fragrance that should have a lot more attention; at least from my point of view.
