This is an early contender for worst release of 2024. Yes, it dropped in December of 2023, but I'm still ranking it in 2024 as well.

From the very first moments I'm underwhelmed. "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" opens with a blast of sweet-fresh candied apple, tropical fruit (melon type) and an omnipresent feeling of (slightly aquatic) muskiness. It smells *a lot* like cheapie designer/niche trash - think Kajal or better yet, think Ambassador for Men. It could basically be Gisada Ambassador without the overwhelming Sauvage aspects. But even the Gisada is better blended.

I'm a little bit lost as to what their inspiration was here as the only place where this scent smells as much as decent is in the vial. In the vial, I get vibes of that Ambassador DNA mixed perhaps with mild hints of the Solstis and/or Météore DNA. In the initial drydown, that mint brings a very slight bitterness which I'd relate to a scent like Xerjoff's "XJ 1861 Renaissance | XerJoff". While the musky-fruity type profile remains throughout, the on-skin blending of this scent when you smell it up-close is beyond embarrassing for a niche fragrance retailing at €255/50ml. Even Kilian produces better fresh fragrances than this (and that's saying something).

AJYAL

Ajyal from the UAE Nabeel Arab House of Haute Luxury Niche Perfumery is part of the First Generation of The Spirit Of Dubai Exclusive Line; It is a Oriental Citrus Aromatic Fruity Floral Green Aquatic Musky Unisex perfume. This fragrance was launched in 2023.
A complex but refreshing fragrance, very tasty, pleasurable and an excellent option for heat and with a very good performance.

At first contact, Ajyal presents a refreshing burst of spicy and slightly sour with a top including grapefruit, bergamot, lemon and the freshness of marine notes. An invigorating aroma reminiscent of rain (petrichor) is intricately intertwined with black pepper, lemon, mint and green notes. The sweetness of apple and pear zest, with plum and rhubarb lends a very tasty fruity balance to this delicious fragrance.

As the fragrance evolves, the heart notes reveal themselves, revealing a floral bouquet of lily, jasmine and heliotrope. The oriental accord of fruity osmanthus with amber wood, and a relaxing combination of lavender and magnolia and a touch of bitterness from freesia, creates a mesmerizing aura. The heart also features the exotic notes of gourmet loukhoum, sweet immortelle with cherry blossom and ylang, transporting you to a splendid succulent garden in full bloom.

Heading towards the base, the notes are rich and warm, leaving a lasting impression. The no-overkill sweetness of brown sugar is masterfully blended with earthy patchouli, cedar wood, and creamy notes of vanilla. The rich scent of amber, tonka bean and musk form a captivating end to this sensory journey. A multifaceted perfume: citrus and fresh, fruity and sweet, spicy and bitter, floral and aquatic, aromatic and musky.

Sweet freshness from the Orient I Probably the most complex freshie in my collection I Comparison Erba Pura etc.
The "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" was high up on my wish list for a long time, but when the fragrance was compared to "Erba Pura | XerJoff", my interest disappeared slightly... what a mistake, because what is the fragrance supposed to have in common with "Erba Pura | XerJoff"? You almost lose faith; if there is fruit in a fragrance, most people automatically associate it with "Erba Pura | XerJoff" or "Accento | XerJoff".

Well, let's first take a look at "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" before I go into the clear differences to other fruity fragrances:

- The opening is overwhelming and at the same time probably the biggest challenge of the fragrance, because you have to like fruity, sweet openings. There are few fragrances that manage to smell so pleasant as a whole, even though almost 13 ingredients are used in the opening alone. It is so well blended that you hardly notice individual ingredients, you rather perceive a sweet, ripe fruit basket and individual notes as a trained nose; such as the pear, bergamot, a little apple, a light mint etc.

- The fragrance then takes on a floral facet, which balances out this initial sweetness very well together with woody accords, bringing this "Dubai sweetness" down a little and rounding it off nicely; before the fragrance then goes into a sweetish-fresh, slightly woody-amber drydown.

- Overall, a really oriental freshie with good longevity and projection; clearly not like a "Dubai - Meydan (Eau de Parfum) | Nabeel", but the performance is quite suitable for summer!
Well, as you can see, we also get a fruit basket here, but it's nowhere near as synthetic as "Erba Pura | XerJoff" and much fresher. It also combines floral aspects; and I think I know why most people associate it with either "Erba Pura | XerJoff" (because of its fruitiness) or "Accento | XerJoff" (floral heart notes); but even when viewed in isolation, the fragrance bears absolutely no resemblance to either of these fragrances.

Now for a brief comparison with the fragrances mentioned so far:

- "Erba Pura | XerJoff" is a ripe fruit compote that comes across as very synthetic. Individual notes are barely perceptible and the fragrance ends on a rather synthetic, strong musky note. The only thing they have in common is that they both make use of fruit; however, "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" has a far more voluminous and natural composition and does not transform into a simple musk base in the drydown. In addition, individual notes such as pear, fresh mint, bergamot and apple can be smelled in "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel"; and yes, this fruitiness is fresh, and not "ripe" as in "Erba Pura | XerJoff". How similar are the fragrances in percentage terms? A maximum of 5%

- The "Accento | XerJoff" comparison is even more utopian: "Accento | XerJoff" has a bit of pineapple in the opening, that's it. As mentioned above, the only thing comparable to the fragrance is the floral heart note, but only as a "basic idea". This floral heart note is composed completely differently and is more in the background of the fruity sweetness in "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel"; in "Accento | XerJoff", this floral side is in the foreground alongside the light pineapple and is almost "clean-vibe-like", whereas "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" retains an oriental, sweet, floral, fresh-fruity DNA.

- and anyone who compares the fragrance with God of Fire is far from reality :) The God of Fire is very mango-influenced, of course also fresh, but the mango is the main player, and this then becomes rather slightly creamy-woody, with 0 floral aspects. I don't know...

In this sense, dear perfumistas, please don't always make these comparisons and test the fragrances independently. Everyone perceives fragrances differently, and it may well be that the fragrances smell similar to others, but there are so many factors involved; you don't know how experienced the reviewer is, how many fragrances they have under their nose, whether the reviewer can even identify individual ingredients and how they interact; whether they have even tested the fragrances at the same time. These comparisons are therefore not always meaningful.

In the end, it's your own experience that counts and there are so many passionate bottling colleagues here at Parfumo who make this possible :) With that in mind, dig in, hope the article helps a little.

Oriental, fruity freshie with strong H/S
Dubai - Ajyal was my absolute favorite fragrance last summer. I was actually looking for a fresh, citrusy summer fragrance last July, but I immediately changed my mind when I was allowed to test this highly complex, oriental scent.

The fragrance starts very fruity with citrusy nuances and an oriental sweetness. Individual fragrance notes are very difficult to describe here, as many fragrance notes are perfectly blended into one another, resulting in a perfect, non-synthetic collection of fruits. Nevertheless, I think I can detect the candied apple and pear. One scent that I definitely notice here is petrichor, which really reminds me of the smell of rain on a hot summer's day and makes the fragrance seem slightly "green".

As the fragrance progresses, the oriental sweetness fades further and further into the background and the fruity notes are joined by floral ones. Once again, it is difficult to speak of individual fragrance notes due to the complexity. However, I find that the floral notes are perfectly unisex here and never appear feminine.

The fragrance ends in a drydown with an interplay of fruity and slightly fresh notes, musk and a light woody note due to sandalwood and cedarwood.

Although the fragrance is dominated by fruitiness, it never seems too synthetic or too sweet, as is the case with "Erba Pura | XerJoff", for example. For me, the fragrance doesn't have much to do with "Erba Pura | XerJoff", as the different fragrance notes in Ajyal result in a highly complex, non-synthetic fragrance composition that can't be compared with any fragrance I know.

The fragrance is also very wearable on hot summer days, as it never seems too penetratingly sweet and you are permanently "cooled down" by a light freshness. Even at 32°C, the fragrance never bothered me despite its strong H/S and didn't give me a headache. The fragrance stays with me throughout the day. So for me a durability of 10h+.

In conclusion, Ajyal is the perfect summer fragrance for anyone who is looking for a creative and complex summer fragrance and has no problem with sweet and fruity scents.

With this in mind: I'd love to try it for yourself and thanks for reading!

Masterpiece from the Orient
For me, Ajyal is the epitome of an extraordinary fragrance - my absolute favorite from the "Niche Collection".
It is best suited to spring and slightly cooler summer days, as the multi-faceted composition of fresh, fruity and floral notes, paired with a deep oriental twist, is at its best in mild to warm temperatures.

What makes Ajyal so special is the incredible fragrance development on the skin. As soon as you think you can grab the fragrance, new components unfold, creating a completely new fragrance impression, even though you can hardly actually identify individual notes.
The fragrance definitely starts off fruity-fresh with notes such as grapefruit, mint and rhubarb, while the beautiful and predominantly floral heart, consisting of a multitude of notes, unfolds over the course of the fragrance.
In the drydown, the warm, sweet base with notes such as vanilla, amber and musk becomes increasingly noticeable. This impression rounds off the previously rather fruity and floral fragrance perfectly and at the same time gives it a beautiful depth.

The complexity of Ajyal is simply impressive. The individual components harmonize so well with each other that the fragrance (unlike other fruit bombs on the market) never seems chaotic or overloaded.
As usual with Spirit of Dubai, Ajyal's longevity is quite good and the fragrance stays with you for many hours. The sillage is also above average, although Ajyal is not a beast when dosed appropriately and will hardly bother anyone.

The flacon design is really successful and adequately reflects the fragrance experience. The accompanying travel case is a nice and practical detail.

Conclusion:
Ajyal impresses with a highly complex fragrance creation that harmoniously combines an incredible number of notes. It combines a fruity freshness with floral notes on an oriental base. The fragrance exudes elegance and luxury and is by far my favorite choice from this direction.

Sweet-fruity-fresh. Non-niche blend, bit like Gisada Ambassador. Dries bitter at first (Renaissance), ultimately blends poorly on-skin.
