Dubai - Meydan The Spirit of Dubai 2015 Eau de Parfum

WOW, Meydan is really nice. Smells quality all the way. While Meydan has every note and the kitchen sink thrown in, I can describe it as a beautiful leather fragrance. The leather here is quite pleasant and classy, not animalic. To my nose, it's a very fresh leather with a touch of green. I'm assuming the freshness or bite is mainly due to the geranium and cypress. Didn't really pick out all the different notes. They just combine well to make a delicious, fresh backdrop to the leather. Meydan is also very dry; not a touch of sweetness or florals - a very masculine fragrance. This is another one that shouldn't be sold as unisex. Also not one for the bubblegum boys. This is a manly man scent.

Performance is very good for longevity, sillage and projection. A bit pricey, but it is so good. I'm getting me a bottle of this baby for sure.

It is a Oriental Woody Leather Amber Spicy Smoky Unisex perfume with a strong masculine inclination; Its release was in 2015. This fragrance is mainly composed of a rich combination of woods and a green leather that evoke a warm and elegant feeling. In addition, the aromatic character is intertwined with nuances of tobacco and a subtle animalic touch that adds mystery and seduction. The ambery accord lends a refined sensual softness, while the 'oud, with its woody, earthy and smoky richness, adds a luxurious and long-lasting depth.

The fragrance opens with a blend of fresh citrus notes with lavender, and spiced mainly by cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. A touch of apple and mugwort adds a slight sweetness and even more freshness, while the cypress wood already brings a strong grassy vibration already mixing with saffron, immediately referring to a greenish leather that will always permeate the fragrance and increasing the complexity of this opening. And they offer an initial burst of spicy freshness and greenish leather that awakens the senses and sets the stage for the rich olfactory experience to come. From its beginning, the potency of this perfume has been impressive!

At the heart of this fragrance lies a harmonious and elegant blend of golden notes, with more leather now blending with a subtle yet present brown tobacco, creating a robust and seductive smoky core that captivates and leaves a lasting impression. The strong presence of dark oud wood with a smoky animalic profile with a discreet floral mix of lilies with geranium and exotic jasmine adds a rather eccentric sensuality that intertwines with cedar and cashmere, creating a harmony of woody and smoky notes that evoke sophistication and mystery.

At the base of this composition the ingredients reveal a lasting depth, with a rich base anchored in a striking green leather, plus 'oud with patchouli combining perfectly in a resinous earthy animalic accord that evokes the opulence of the Middle East. The harshness of musk with more noble woods adds warmth and depth, while amber, and tonka vanilla envelop the perfume as a whole with a comforting ambery creaminess. Vetiver reinforces the green character of the fragrance with a refined, woody touch that lingers on the skin, leaving an unforgettable trail of pure manly elegance.

Dubai Meydan feels refined and calm, yet unmistakably luxurious. Wide open spaces, elegant architecture, and a relaxed atmosphere make it perfect for a quiet walk or a classy evening out. It’s not loud or flashy, just tasteful and well done.I was expecting something else but it's OK. I definitely won't keep it in my collection.

regarding meydan it's a good perfume, we smell the oud, but a soft and sweet oud probably mitigated by vanilla and tonka bean.

therefore, it is perfectly unisex, favored for winter and for those over 30 the oud still gives it a certain age.

the sillage is powerful and the lasting power is honest, allow 8 hours easily.

he reminds me of hugo boss damask oud. a good perfume, an accessible oud but a little banal, it does not reach my top 10 this year.

Meydan is possibly the most complex scent in the Spirit of Dubai stable. Revolving around a core of metallic synth oud wrapped in ashy leather, it has an intriguing push-pull texture. This nugget of dry-milky leather is itself wrapped up in another layer, this time consisting of waxy green aromatics, herbs, and a touch of dry rose. The green freshness suggested by the aromatics works very well as a counterpoint to the main backdrop of the perfume, which is balsamic, satiny, and smoky.

The core leather note becomes ever smokier, and drier, and, perhaps inevitably, suggestive of the sawdust dryness of the leather Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. It is hard to do a modern oudy leather without invoking the ghost of Tuscan Leather. At least one entry in the line-up of most nouveau niche brands is a riff on Tuscan Leather. However, without the raspberry note of the Tom Ford to brighten the heart, the leather in Meydan is darker, and more somber in mood. The leather accord also has the stout, embroidered incense richness of several Clive Christian masculines.

The fact that it reads like a greatest hits tour of masculine niche favorites from the last 20 years doesn’t detract from Meydan’s loveliness. In fact, it improves upon many of the scents it references. For example, although the ashy, creamy leather accord is like that of Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather, Meydan presents a far richer, more brilliant version. It is also more durable. The waxy, green leafiness of the artemisia and cypress are fresher counterparts to the ashy leather than fruit notes, and the whole fragrance is imbued with a glowering moodiness that is missing from the Tom Ford.

The smoky incense in the base brings a metallic intensity to the scent that is distinctive without being derivative. The ever-present The Spirit of Dubai woody ambers are present and correct, so watch out if you are sensitive. To my nose, however, they only exert their chemical heat once the brilliant richness of the other notes has faded, well past hour ten of the scent’s useful life.
