Woody charme in the vertical peak

When Amouage launched the New Era I was captivated by Reason but i was not ready to understand the complexity of the work made by Bertrand D behind.

Nowadays it’s start a new chapter of consciousness in my view to try and discover some creations even due a really delusion of the market.

Each one of us prefers some family and mine is the woody family, so if like the noble sandalwood or palo santo or cedar wood please give a chance with mind and heart to Reasons

This parfume is a perfect representation of the past. Notes are representative and the master parfumer is the storyteller.
He created a perfect accord between some of the best wood notes: warm, soft, calm.
Technique used by Amouage is impressive, my question is - due everyone contest this chapter- we are ready for it? Our nose intoxicated by ambrocenide and ambroxan is ready for something new?

Creamy hazelnut

I already said my impression about the new bottles so let's skip directly to the fragrance.
It starts mainly with the hazelnut note with some pine in background - that's it. As it evolves some powdery and creamy notes add to the top and it quite stays as it is. So, I personally see it as the name of the review says - a creamy hazelnut, subtle, not something that can "fill a room" or draw somebodies' attention.
It is really disappointing as this is created from the master perfumer that released Jubilation XXV, Jubilation 40. I expected much more than that, but... that's it - "new Amouage era".
As the beginning was skipped, I would maybe skip also the end which shall be the performance of the fragrance. Only one word - "a joke".
Reasons is for sure the last place from the essence collection in terms of both smell and performance.

it's familiar, again

My second review of Amouage's latest collection "The Essences". Review written off one in-doors test off samples purchased directly from Amouage.

Very much like Lustre, Reasons borrows heavily from Amouage's existing catalogue. However, unlike Lustre, Reasons doesn't feel like it brings anything new by itself. The somewhat intense opening features significant accord overlap with Lineage with the spiciness contrasting against green-vegetal type notes. This is perfectly captured by the peruvian pepper tree top note which is also there in Lineage, but it also features patchouli while having some fenugreek-like qualities as well. The mild sweetness is a mix of the cardamom top and a fairly mild benzoin.

When smelling the scent up-close, my initial impression is that it is a more wearable version of Lineage. There is a nuance of "spoiled fruitiness" somewhere in the top, likely coming from the davana, albeit it does come off somewhat similarly to the fruitiness in "Guidance | Amouage" (which Q. Bisch took from his preceding release with Maison Crivelli). Shortly thereafter, you again begin to notice the inclusion of notes reminiscent of Jubilation XXV Man, just like Lustre. However, the drydown appears to be structured primarily as a woody-aromatic scent, mainly giving off the scent of "sweetened pine". Not comparable to sweetened fougère scents nor Serge Lutens' Fille en aiguilles, but perhaps contrasting the J25 ambers against the aromatic tones featured in Amouage's top summer scent, that being Beach Hut Man. Ultimately, it is a fairly plain combination of pine, musk, vanilla/benzoin and some apricotty nuances as the opening blast of Lineage-like notes fades and the scent mainly features accords from Guidance, J25 and Beach Hut in the drydown.

Conclusion. As a scent, Reasons is another scent in "The Essences" collection that features prominent overlap with Amouage's already-released product, primarily borrowing from Lineage in the top as well as a mix and match of accords from Beach Hut Man, Jubilation XXV Man and "Guidance | Amouage" in the drydown. I would have an easier time justifying €420/100ml for this one than Reasons were it not for the incredibly light performance. Ultimately, I arrive at the same conclusion as the preceding review in stating that the bish-bosh around double infusion and oak barrels is empty marketing speak, but as other brands (e.g. Atelier des Ors) are now entering the market using the same trickery as well, I predict this will be a new lane for brands to milk the consumer.

When the air is out

We could go on and on about the current situation with all the new editions and everyone has their own opinion on the subject. However, one thing that all of us in perfume life certainly have is an initial overload and sometimes a lack of interest in testing something new, as we really tend to be inundated these days. Not a day goes by without something new coming onto the market. When I look at the currently hyped Lattafa segment, for example, I literally feel sick. I think that the people behind it have lost track of all the new perfumes themselves.

Amouage had its very own idea. Maturing perfume in barrels and bringing this "maturing process" under the skin of the customer. They have also come up with a new shape for the bottle, including a new "suit", which is certainly not a bad thing. But the bottom line is that the content has to be appealing. That is the most important thing. Unfortunately, it definitely doesn't here.

I have been able to test all three new editions and this fragrance is the worst. The air is simply out of it for me. A fragrance that is naturally highly priced delivers a pretty mediocre performance here that doesn't even begin to satisfy me. Too bad. Although I like the other two much better, they don't really inspire me either. They all look high quality, but this one is a little out of line.

Let's move on to the fragrance. Reasons starts off quite creamy for me, delicately nutty, with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla. The fragrance then quickly develops into slightly warm, woody facets that are literally sprinkled with nuances of pepper and a hint of davana. The fragrance swings up and down in the humid air. The creamy touch is always present. I detect a slight hint of patchouli, which unfortunately doesn't seem to fit in here. This makes the fragrance seem a little coarser, musty and earthy. Even the creaminess can't make up for this. Yes, it also has something ethereal about it, but at its heart it is actually just creamy, peppery and warmly woody. It stays on me for a few hours or so, breathing only slightly peppery towards the end.
So the longevity and also the sillage are not what I am used to from Amouage.

You can test it, yes, but if you don't, you're not missing out on anything in my opinion. It's also the case that even the really big perfume houses have simply run out of steam with some fragrances.
