Golden vanilla glitter dust
I have never ordered a fragrance so quickly, but when I heard about the 100th anniversary edition of the wonderful Shalimar, I had to order it immediately without thinking twice.
As soon as you arrived, the journey began.
I tested the enclosed sample first - and was really disappointed. What I got here was mainly Shalimar Millésime Iris Vibes... A hint of Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia followed and yes, that was almost it.
No bergamot, no leather, no smoke and therefore no Shalimar DNA.
And for the 100th birthday of an icon? How can that be?
The statements about the fragrance slowly sprang up and I didn't even understand what was being smelled there.
It wasn't until two days later that I opened the bottle - and I was really amazed! It really was a true revelation.
Everything was there - the bergamot danced towards me, soft leather caressed my nose and the Shalimar Ur-DNA wished me a wonderful good day.
And then : THIS VANILLA... oh, how wonderful it is. So silky, dense and warm. It is a real dream.
I was very surprised but incredibly happy. Really absolutely happy.
Now I could also understand many of the statements. It's just a good thing that I always take my time before writing, otherwise I would have described a completely different fragrance impression.
It's never happened to me before that a manufacturer's sample performs so differently, but that's how it was for me.
Farfalle tastes different to macaroni even though it's basically made from the same material... or my coffee tastes different from a glass than from my favorite cup - so why not.
I'm an absolute flask kid anyway :-).
I can also hardly wait for this little treasure to fully mature!
I think this fragrance is really worth testing in a perfumery at your leisure.
I can only say that Guerlain has done a very good job of paying tribute to Shalimar but has absolutely transported the fragrance into the here and now. New life has been breathed into it.
It is therefore much more wearable in everyday life than the original Shalimar (which of course remains an incomparable masterpiece for me and can continue to accompany me in my everyday life).
Since I own all Millésime editions and know them very well by now, I would say that Guerlain has managed to find the middle ground between Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia and Shalimar Millésime Iris and to embed the whole thing in a softer version of the original fragrance.
For me, that really is art in itself.
Perhaps the Millésime versions even served as a training ground and also to test what the customer likes best.
For me, next to my beloved Millésime Tonka, it really is the most successful version of the new releases. Just as it should be for a centenary, after all.
I now love it very much and it even has great potential to become a signature for me.
That's saying something.
The longevity is also quite good - not really intense for my skin because it somehow swallows everything up quickly, but still good.
I am also extremely happy that this is not a limited edition, if my sources have told me correctly.
Since I've known that, the nervous twitching in my bunker eye has also calmed down pleasantly ;-).
The only thing I don't quite like is the thought that you might smell it on many corners in the future, but of course I don't begrudge Guerlain and this wonderful fragrance its success.
I have remained rather objective here, I have described what the fragrance does to me emotionally in my statement.
I hope everyone enjoys discovering this really very successful fragrance.
