Feminine side of vetiver?

I've been revisiting the house of Mancera lately and to be honest I'm not a huge fan. Their fragrances come up as too synthetic and overly sweet to a point I honestly dislike some of their power houses like: Aoud Lemon Mint, Red Tobacco and headache inducing Instant Crush but , of course there are some exceptions like Vetiver Sensuel.

With this one the titular vetiver is front and center (as opposed to Cosmic Pepper where the pepper is hardly noticeable but I digress). Vetiver is a very masculine note hence this would be a very masculine fragrance... right? well not really, it has some floral notes that softens it and adds feminine sensibilities making it this a more original interpretation of the vetiver.

Performance is very solid, signature Mancera performance which is always good. I really enjoy this one and it's perhaps a top 5 for me.

Very fresh, easy-to-wear vetiver

One of Mancer’s recent releases is Vetiver Sensuel, which immediately smells like a mix of light vetiver with citruses and florals. Some notes that seem to stand out are a mix of citruses (lemon, orange, bergamot, lime), pepper, vetiver, mint, patchouli, and a blended base of woods and musk, mainly. So it’s a formula that seems like it’ll produce an agreeable perfume, and that’s largely true in my wearing of it. There’s not much to dislike; it’s very easy to wear.

Vetiver Sensuel is not quite as deep or interesting as other “fresh vetiver” scents, like Roja Vetiver Extrait or Dua Fragrances’ recent original, Pretiosum Vetiverum. It’s a little less sharp that Guerlain Vetiver, however, so it really might work for many a summer vetiver scent that is pretty inoffensive.

Overall, I quite like it—I associate Mancera and Montale with heavier scents, typically, so it’s always nice to a see a freshie release that’s fun like Cedrat Boise or Aoud Lemon Mint. It performs reasonably well and is sold by Krystal Fragrance for the standard pricing of $180 for 120ml.

Classic, but not old-fashioned

Few would associate vetiver with sensuality, but rather with practicality. Of course, there are many different variations of the sweet grass - from green to earthy-smoky - but in most classic perfumes the middle in between is aimed for. Similar to probably Montale with Vetiver Patchouli, Mancera has created a fragrance somewhat similar to Orage; however, I perceive the Louis Vuitton as more restrained, powdery and also grayer.

As the sensual side of Vetiver Sensuel could be interpreted the slightly fresh effect at the beginning, which for me comes mainly from bergamot and orchid. Here I see neither the citrus, nor the light floral quality as really dominant, because both are well balanced and a green facet is already noticeable. The mint, in my opinion, can only be sensed in the background, while the pepper adds a bit of spice. So the first impressions result from a mixture of masculine and feminine notes, of classic and modern elements. Gradually, however, these boundaries shift, as the subtle dry-woody component and the usual fading of the top notes ensure that Vetiver Sensuel now already seems a bit 'oldschool'. Amber/sweet does not play a role here anyway, rather still patchouli and oakmoss in a supporting way. The fragrance, however, remains relatively brightly oriented and is fortunately not powdery, which otherwise makes for me in conjunction with vetiver and / or a certain soapiness many perceived as very old-fashioned perfumes.

Verdict: Mancera has created a pleasant, natural-looking vetiver fragrance that, while not really refreshing, seems appropriate for all seasons. As was to be expected, it is already rather suitable for more mature people, ultimately does not quite live up to its name and is too classic for me personally in the end. (I'm also not necessarily the biggest fan of vetiver-dominated fragrances.) But who basically likes this direction should consider a test at the good price-performance ratio.

The vetiver-lemon lemonade for the summer! Not really "sensual" but damn good!

Hey, this is the first comment on the fragrance, how nice :)
I was able to test the scent in a sharing, and what can I say? I love vetiver scents anyway, but this one... This is my new go-to summer vetiver!
Whoever reads the pyramid of scents will have guessed that this fragrance begins very citric. And that's exactly how it is. The lemon is the first thing you smell. Very light orange in the background. But fortunately not a "bath cleaner lemon", but a freshly cut lemon that is on its way to the lemonade glass. My better half spoke of a shower gel smell, and I can understand where she got it from. The top note is just very refreshing and somehow clear... I'm sure you understand what I mean ;)

After 20/30 minutes the citrus scent moves further and further into the background. The mint appears and the vetiver announces itself. But the mint doesn't stay for very long... already after 20 minutes only the vetiver remains. But together with a very light orchid note. This lies in the background and provides a certain lightness. The vetiver is not earthy or dirty, like you know it from Encre Noire or similar. It is a little bit like in Grey Vetiver or from Guerlain's Vetiver, but there it is a little bit lighter.

As soon as the base notes are reached, not much happens in the field of fragrance development. But that is a good thing! The drydown is heavenly! As I said, perfect for the (high) summer, but also well wearable on warm spring or autumn days.
The shelf life is a good 7 to 8 hours.

I haven't seen the bottle live, but it looks great on the pictures. And the Mancera bottles are all great I also like the price! The scent is great and smells very high quality. I think my bottling will be gone quickly and then a whole bottle will have to go!

Vetiver paired with citrus!

This new vetiver focuses on any amount of citrus fruits like: Lemon, lime, bergamot and orange. The citrus fruits definitely compete with vetiver, but in the end vetiver wins so it turns out to be a great combination. On the way to vetiver, you pass through delicious spices and fine forests.
Not as intense as other manceras, but not softer either.
Pure enjoyment. Successful fragrance

Bright citrusy opening, non-earthy vetiver that hangs around the entire time but never really takes over. Personally love, just wish it lasted longer.
