Handsome Red Devil
I’ve never smelled the Original, but this is beautiful. Im not a fan of strong (animalic) leather fragrances and this is not that. While there is leather in the opening it isn’t too strong, and within a few minutes becomes a smooth, semi-sweet vanilla and wood scent complimented by tobacco. If the OG is Kramer- kicking the door open and announcing itself before you do, then this is Jerry. Not obnoxious but definitely grabbing the attention in the room.

As if ”Red Tobacco” wasn’t intense
Did Pierre Montale really think ”Red Tobacco needs more power!!!!”? My god. The OG is well known to be nuclear and this is no different. Red Tobacco Intense is less synthetic/medicinal in the opening. Even darker than before with more focus on oud/leather.
Be careful with the trigger on this one, or the fragrance will end up wearing you.

A decent flanker with leather and a hint of oud
I have not tried the OG but I own Carlisle which it is often compared to. Compared to Carlisle, this is drier and more "amberwoody". More focus on tobacco and wood while I think Carlisle focuses more on vanilla, apple and cinnamon.

IRT also has a synthetic oud that pulls a little in the leathery direction, maybe even approaching barnyard territory before settling down. The leather lasts quite well and would probably be what stands out through the perfume's lifetime. Performance is great and I easily get 12+ hours with decent projection throughout its duration. Your shirt will smell until you wash it.

On a side note, I think this type of fragrance falls into the "pseudoniche" category. Such fragrances that are marketed as complex olfactory works of art but are actually quite simple. I like it though. It is sexy and easy to wear.

A solid 8.5/10

My girlfriends comment was "Very good. Strong without being obnoxious.". Which I would say is a good grade considering she is 30 weeks pregnant!

Black Tobacco Leather
The OG Red Tobacco is well known and loved with its opening that feels like a punch in the face and its divine dry down. But its younger brother (which feels like an older brother, more on that in a second) doesn’t get the love it deserves.

Intense Red Tobacco is not the OG amped up to be more intense, that would have made no sense since the OG is already so intense. The intense behaves differently on the skin and although the sent profile is similar to the OG, it has its own unique personality. Maybe the intense version should have been called something else entirely (Black Tobacco Leather?).

It is smoother in the opening, but the spices are still very present. It is darker thanks to the leather, but also creamier. To me, it seems a bit more serious and mature, hence the OG’s older brother comment.

Performance-wise, the projection seems just slightly below the OG, but it lasts forever on my skin.

Easily found discounted, I didn’t think twice about buying it - I love me an ambery, spicy, and woody tobacco, and it has monster performance. Nevertheless, if you already have the OG, it might be redundant to own both.

Now, having both the OG and the intense, I absolutely love layering the OG over the intense. It’s a fun combo!

It's not the journey, but the destination.
I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. I purchased this blind as I own the original Red Tobacco EDP (screw cap), which in my opinion always felt like an Extrait. While I cannot compare to the reformulation of the EDP with the magnetic cap, I almost couldn't tell the difference between the Intense and vintage EDP. Dare I say, the performance of Red Tobacco EDP (2017) seems to be noticeably superior to Red Tobacco Intense. I also find that the patchouli was more prominent in the old formula. This was one of my favorite facets about Red Tobacco. Has the quality been reduced and slyly reintroduced as an "Intense" or simply redefined? This version starts out just as abrasive and noisy as the classic, however I find that 3 hours after application it attempts to take on a new identity. As it dries down, the patchouli note bows out gracefully and leather takes the stage. Here, we have a case where it is redundant to own both fragrances. However, considering the dry down differs with both formulas you may find yourself preferring one over the other. With Red Tobacco it's not the journey, but the destination.

More oud/leather driven, mildly chocolatey. The spices & fruitiness of the OG don't pop as much, blend isn't as synthetic. Still pointless.

The Intense is the OG with a smoother opening, and a beautiful ambery and creamy leather. More mature and top notch performance.

This version is smoother, a bit darker(more woody), and not as loud as the original. This makes it easier to use.

Hmm, fruity tobacco, slightly leathery, very spicy and very musky. Not trivial, but boring. In this style, there are clearly too *

In my opinion, the regular one is better.
Not much of a difference, but the Intense has a somewhat harsh, musty-leathery vibe for me.
H/S top :)

Then I'd rather have an honest Rothhändle without sneaking around, than inhale this aggressive synthetic sweet-and-sour mush.

Red Tobacco is distinctly darker, leathery.
Generally well-made, but you have to like the ashtray note.
