Tonka Cola

On me, Tonka Cola is very clearly inspired by Angel - a big caramelized creme brulee patchouli mixed with vanilla pudding. On top of this, there's a nutty sweetness that I could be convinced is a version of cola. There's also a roasted note that reminds me of coffee adding depth and darkness to all the caramel. A while in, I also smell chocolate hovering in the background.

Thumbs up for a slightly interesting take on a popular genre, though this isn't really what I'm into.

Everybody loves cola…. Right?

I do like cola from time to time. As a kid I used to gobble it down like crazy and yep that was the end of my teeth. So cola, I got a love/hate relationship with it.
Anyways this is about a perfume right? It makes you smell like cola. Cherry cola to be precise with a lot of cinnamon. With fizzle and pop and all. A couple of hours later it’s more like a smooth vanilla coke that’s left alone for a while so all the pop has left the glass. A bit smoother, a bit more powdery, a bit more perfume than gourmand cola. I like it a lot.

Pepsi cola in a perfume

Tonka cola by MANCERA is a perfume I bought in fall 2022 when released in Europe directly from the MANCERA website. I had a tonka kick and could not miss it. However tonka here comes through more towards the deep dry down and it takes many hours to get there. Before that you smell of Pepsi cola and cinnamon with maybe some other spice. Not my cup of tea to be honest even if beautifully done. Does not smell at all like the Boucheron, where there is no Pepsi or spicy note, they share the tonka mostly.

Spicy and Fun

Got a sample of this. First wear I felt like it smelled like the dried spices and herb section of an Asian grocery store. Anise, ginseng, cinnamon, etc. after wearing it for a while it mellowed to a more “Dr pepper” smell. Second time wearing it I felt like it had a Christmas cookie smell. A lot sweeter than first wear but still herbal/spicy. 3rd wear today I finally feel like I understand this fragrance. It’s sophisticated, spicy, but still fun. I still feel the Asian grocery store sentiments on first spray but the sweetness that comes out throughout its wear makes me want to wear it again. Not sure I’ll purchase, maybe a used bottle. It’s definitely a fall/winter or night out only fragrance.

The Promised Cola

So many fragrance houses have promised us a Cola fragrance, but they have been disappointing. Not this cola fragrance, this is the Cola we have all been promised. It feels like carbonation in your nose, like when you first pop the cap off a cold glass cola bottle. You get that perfect blend of citrus, fruit and spice and it smells like realistic cola with a bit of vanilla. The vanilla is interesting too, its not the typical vanilla you get in a gourmand. Its not super sweet, its more mellow and powdery. I was received compliments on this fragrance a when I was a couple feet away from my coworker, so the projection is really good and it lasted about 6 hours on my skin. Its $105 for 60ml which is a steal if you ask me.
