The Snow Queen

Today it is sooo hot - I don't know what else to take off.
Even the astonished raising of an eyebrow takes effort.
So I forbid myself to be surprised.
Inger recommended Saharienne in this heat in her comment.
Tried it out, slight relief, but still sweat spots.
Next to it, the heat-tested 4711 - short cooling, then back to lethargy.
In this sweltering heat, stronger measures had to be taken.
So - as a last resort - 4711 Ice Blue.
Just to be safe, I stored it in the fridge first and then used it.
The Snow Queen glides in on her skates, dressed in her white, jewel-encrusted gown - right over my hot forehead.
She swings her ice flower scepter and cools the blood.
Visions of frolicking polar bears on freshly calved ice floes pass before my eyes.
I dream myself to Greenland or Alaska, and fresh, germ-free clean air envelops me completely.
No dust, no pollen torment my sensitive nose.
The next travel destination for me?
I also receive bergamot and pineapple and lovely cooling peppermint.
But I don't care about the remaining ingredients - I enjoy the coolness on my skin a priori.

The beautiful Snow Queen has now glided back into the fridge to reappear with an icy demeanor and blow snowflakes towards me.

I'm thrilled

After I drew a lot of criticism yesterday for daring to call 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser an "old lady scent" in a review, here is my reconciliation offer to 4711 and to all those who left haha-so-funny comments about my review and much more about my nickname.

Most of the time I shop at the drugstores around the corner, but today two packages arrived. Besides a Mother's Day gift (I treat my mom to Idôle Aura by Lancôme) and samples that I'm looking forward to, Ice Blue was included for me. I’m a mom too. Since my little one is still quite small, I treat myself.

I think it's amazing. The Ice Hammer. I applied it on my neck, pulse points, and temples a while ago, and it's still cooling! Yes, the scent fades quickly, but the coolness remains. Summer, you can come! I have Ice Blue! (And the yellow remix from 4711)
I can also imagine that this would be great for headaches at the temples. Unlike other roll-ons that are available for this purpose, this one is not overly mentholated, so it doesn't irritate the eyes.

The scent is primarily fresh. There’s also something synthetic about it, but that doesn’t bother me. Maybe there’s menthol or camphor in it; I certainly don’t believe that this cooling effect can come solely from the peppermint. - Quick Google search: Yup, menthol is in it.

The bottle is appropriate for a "use perfume."

Not Refreshing Enough

Ice Cool Cologne may be fresh, but for me, it is rather a lukewarm candidate in this spectrum.
I find it far too flat, and unfortunately, the pharmacy comes to mind when I apply the scent.

I have dug it out repeatedly in the height of summer. I had two full samples of the fragrance, but it fails to excite me over the long haul.

What I want with this scent now, in the midst of the already cold autumn, you might be wondering. Even the always captivating Ergreifend, with its heavy inclination towards smoke and resin, might want to refresh itself. After work, especially after the night shift, when you step out of the warm shower and finally lay down in bed to sleep for a few hours.

Ice Cool seemed right for that. Right, in the sense of applying it to the skin just before sleep and briefly inhaling the scent. Because it doesn't last even an hour. It is flat, not intrusive, gently fresh, with a pleasant lemony base that carries mint leaves. Everything is quiet and shy. So, upon first contact. But then, it reminds me very much of the pharmacy. Alcohol. Something styrofoam-like. That's about it. You can't expect much more from the fragrance, and it hardly holds anything. It's like when I lie around in bed a bit, sniff at my wrists, and pull the blanket up to my nose. Before I fall asleep, the scent has already vanished into nowhere.

A fragrance that isn't really one.
More of a brief refresher that doesn't quite achieve the desired effect.

For trying, okay. But I wouldn't buy this "mayfly" of a scent.

Flashback with a gem that practically saves lives in summer

Last spring, I was once again lost in thought while browsing in the drugstore when suddenly I was struck by a flashback like a bolt from the blue. The trigger was this little bottle on the shelf. First thought: Unbelievable, is this still around?
Rubbing my eyes, blinking, looking again... Really, there it is. This little ice-blue bottle that I remembered from the 80s. Back then, it was still "the East," before the reunification. My grandma owned this ice stick and referred to it as "Kölnisch Eis." I was allowed to use it once, but very sparingly. And I still remember exactly how it felt back then. Now, this olfactory and tactile sensation hit me with full force in the Müller drugstore and catapulted me 40 years into the past.
These ice sticks were very valuable back then, as they were only brought "from the West." Aunt Christa would do this on every visit to my grandma, which happened every few years. She used this "Kölnisch Eis" herself and was happy to pass it on.
When a stick was empty, I would get it to play with. You could (and still can) open it. I filled it with water back then and basically gave it another round of use. The cushion still had enough scent that it imparted its icy beauty and soothing effect to the water.
However, it was made of a smooth fabric back then. I must say, that was better because it didn’t shed and remained nice even after very long use. The current cushion is made of a kind of fleece and has already started pilling after the first use, which looks a bit shabby. But that doesn’t detract from my time travel.
In any case, I now use the stick regularly in the summer, and it is simply brilliantly cooling. A little dab in the crook of my arm, behind my knees, and on my neck, and I feel refreshed for the next hour. This thing really works wonders!

Edith wanted to add that the historical original of this is Ice Cologne
One of the versions actually bears the name Kölnisch Eis. So, my grandma must have had that, even though she owned the ribbed glass bottle and not the white plastic stick.

A refreshing scent with plenty of peppermint from 4711

As we probably all know, 4711 stands for one of the longest-established brands that has brought Eau de Colognes to the market in all variations, including the famous 4711 Cologne.
In recent years, this brand has continually come up with new creations that have now firmly established themselves in the perfume market. I think Ice Cool will also become a classic!

Ice Cool Cologne is a rather sporty scent, a water that you want to refresh yourself with, similar to the classic 4711!
While the overall note of the fragrance is quite different, I find Cool Cologne to be just as classic a scent that both genders can wear well!
For summer and on very hot days, this little water is truly refreshing, cooling, and also soothing!

Upon direct application, I perceive a strong, almost beautifully ethereal peppermint note that is refreshingly spicy and lasts until the base note.
Immediately, the herbaceous, citrusy bergamot mixes into the cologne.

The base note is still characterized by this wonderfully fresh-spicy peppermint, with ripe plums also clearly recognizable, which seem to have a somewhat juicy quality.
There is also a light floral breeze to be sensed, along with cedar, which is not too strong, but rather moderate. It doesn’t steal the show from the mint, bergamot, and plum, which would have been a shame!
The cedar fits very well into the bottle, as it brings some depth with its woody note to this cologne.
Ice Cool becomes a little more herbaceous here, but still hasn’t lost its freshness :)

Overall, Ice Cool is once again a successful Eau de Cologne from this world-famous brand 4711 from Cologne.
Anyone who doesn’t know this water is missing out on a refreshing Eau de Cologne with mint and other refreshing notes!
So quickly grab the bottle!
