We need a fresh start, a new image, a young scent,
something like the popular Chanel Allure Homme Sport, just with a cheaper vibe.

I'm sure this thought crossed more than one mind at 4711 in my Cologne,
because as far as I know, no one has gone to hell for copying.

It was worth a try, the copy is successful,
you know that as soon as the first olfactory note has sounded.

Still, it remains just a budget alternative,
true perfume lovers still get upset about dupes.

I would recommend paying a few euros more,
then you get a Chanel all-rounder, not a 4711 washcloth.

Wunder*Wasser is everything but a wonder,
something like it exists by the hundred.

Fresh, creamy, citrusy, sweet, woody, usable for every fun,
okay, just not for poker, drinking, and smoking.

The scent does nothing wrong, and neither does the wearer,
he's just more of a goldfish than a predator.

The look is modern, but still as dull as expected from 4711,
a bit more coolness wouldn't have hurt in this case.

Its longevity is okay, its sillage rather weak,
but you can get it for almost nothing compared to the competition.

A beginner's scent and not a stinker,
still a bit cheeky, like overtaking on the right and signaling left!

Barking or Biting?

Of course, one can tear apart a wonder water like a piece of paper in the air if one wants to, but one can also form an opinion about it without prejudice. And that's how I approach every fragrance, whether cheap or expensive or almost unaffordable, they all have to convince me first. Someone can tell me a lot, but in the end, the scents have to appeal to me, and that is myself.

I discovered wonder water when I was out and about during the first weeks of my professional training in Hof. After I found 200ml of Tommy shower gel for almost nothing in the bargain corner, the day was already saved. But I don’t leave before I’ve strolled through the perfume department, if a department store has one. And so it was here.

First, I almost stumbled over the hefty powerhouses from Joop and Boss. 100ml were available as small bottles, everything else in 200ml. I thought it was a topsy-turvy world, but whatever. When I reached the shelf with the new arrivals, I was initially overwhelmed by the prices, so I quickly turned around and found myself right in front of the shelf with the affordable options. What caught my eye was wonder water. Not really because of its cool blue bottle, but solely because of the name. A first try on a test strip smelled great, nice and fresh and pleasantly flattering.
That was reason enough to let the scent touch my skin, and it was even a bit more delicious right away. So when I looked at the price, I didn’t think long and took the new 4711 with me. At the checkout, several ladies and gentlemen had the same idea, apparently wonder water was the hit that day.

Upon arriving at the hotel, I kept thinking about what the scent reminded me of, as it now smelled warmer and cozier, but still pleasant. I couldn’t figure it out right away, as most of my fragrances are at home, and the one that was on the tip of my tongue in comparison wasn’t there. After a few weeks, when I was back home, I of course forgot my wonder water in the holiday apartment. But at that moment, I didn’t care at all; after hotel and then holiday apartment, I was back home for the first time in weeks, and that was the most important thing at that moment.

The next day, I got up and slowly got ready to go shopping after breakfast. When considering which fragrance to wear today, I took my beloved Allure Homme Sport, which I rarely use for everyday wear due to its not-so-low price. And at that exact moment, the connection was there, and I knew what wonder water had reminded me of all along.

Of course, it is not worthy in any way to be equated with this big name; it is also placed below all of them. But I was happy to have found an affordable version of the expensive original, and I still enjoy it today. The sillage is great, fresh but also warm, while the longevity is rather sad. After 4 hours, I don’t smell much of it anymore. But I gladly overlook that and will certainly get it again when it’s empty. After all, it has been accompanying me on my professional journey for almost a year now, and I don’t want to forget that time. A beautiful time, a beautiful scent, what do cheap prices, interpretations, or one’s own arrogance matter?!

Like Freshly Showered

Who doesn't know that feeling, after a hot summer day, of showering with a cooling shower gel? I associate exactly this feeling and this scent with Wunderwasser; I love this fresh citrusy fragrance and the sensation it leaves on the skin. Conclusion: Underrated scent, especially the aftershave leaves a pleasant freshness on the skin, sillage and longevity are absolutely fine in this price segment. Not cheap-smelling, a bit overly aquatic, yet a good fragrance for little money for all those who like it fresh and still don't want to smell like a Fisherman's Friend. As aftershave and shower gel, top!

Spotless Scent Twin

After the similarity to Allure Homme Sport by Chanel was mentioned here, I wanted to test Wunderwasser to see how close it really is, as I have almost bought AHS a few times.

Yep... it is really damn close. The citrusy/aldehydic top note, the slightly more floral and spicier tones in the heart, the creamy/woody base.
At times, there are hardly any differences to smell compared to the best-seller from Chanel. Especially not when it just wafts by and you don't "dip" your nose in.
Not a creative masterpiece, but solid and almost always wearable with any clothing style. Casual, work, suit, or casual. As long as it's not too cold for something citrusy, it will always work.
Not quite as finely tuned as with Chanel, a bit more synthetic and a little scratchier, but by no means bad.

Considering that it is only an EdC, the longevity of 4-5 hours is acceptable. The sillage is at arm's length and pulls back to skin proximity (20-30cm) after about 3 hours. For an EdC, however, in my opinion, even above average.

In conclusion, I can say that I will prefer Wunderwasser over AHS. Chanel is slightly better, but due to the price difference of about €50 for 100ml, 4711 wins the race.
