The Slightly Different Orange Scent?
Aaron Terence Hughes has so far been a brand that I haven't really paid attention to, and the reasons for this are varied. The person behind the brand has, to put it cautiously, seemed a bit strange to me, just not someone from whom I would buy a perfume. Added to this was Brexit and the already not exactly cheap prices.

First of all, I want to say a few words for everyone interested in the scent:

Blood Orange does not smell like hand soap, fragrance oil, tea light, or any other comparisons to me at all. Sure, there are some products that use orange oil. This is more due to the fact that orange is a good scent absorber and refresher.

I also do not see any similarity to Terre d'Hermès at all.

Now I want to return to the scent itself. Blood Orange really starts with a blood orange. The difference here is mainly noticeable compared to a regular orange, in that this orange note is much more tart and not really sweet. Tangerine and mandarin are more in the background here and round off the blood orange. I can slightly perceive jasmine from the second hour on, which gives the scent a slight creamy note. Towards the end, a woody and slightly sweet base with amber emerges. The blood orange is definitely present and very noticeable throughout the entire duration.

The longevity is absolutely within the range for a fresh scent at about 7 hours. The projection is also in a good range for 3-4 hours.

However, the price is set too high for me. It would be really fair to reduce Blood Orange to the same price as Neon or similar ones.

The scent is also a great alternative for fans of Mandarino di Amalfi, Orange Sanguine, and Afternoon Swim.

A Touch of Summer
So far, I have never really warmed up to Aaron's "taste." Onyx is too animalistic for me, Boss Bastard is too stinky, Ozone feels too heavy and more like a body cream that overwhelms you. I can also hardly relate to Amber Extreme. Neon smells like toilet cleaner.
For 2020, he rebranded and reformulated some fragrances, including Blood Orange.

Sounds great, right? Blood Orange was my last desperate attempt to find a fragrance of my desires from his collection, and I must say that for me, it is the "best" and most tolerable scent. It opens really super fruity fresh with orange and mandarin, and the jasmine note beautifully complements the top note. However, what really bothers me is the longevity. Maybe it's the sprayer, because I have to go within millimeter distance just to get something on my skin, instead of just spraying an overpriced room fragrance. It was better with his 50ml bottles, but still not outstanding. What he has done with his 10ml decants is an absolute outrage.

In this respect, the fragrance quickly rounds off into something musky-sandalwood before it completely disappears. On me, this scent is a notorious so-called "top note blender," even though my skin chemistry is not at all receptive to fresh scents, as all summer-fresh-citrus fragrances vanish from me after a few hours. However, this one runs away from me as if I had stolen the blood oranges from the tree.

The only thing you can say in favor of the fragrance is that it really smells natural and not synthetic at all. It's still too expensive.

Different but quite successful
To be honest, I expected a somewhat different fragrance experience from "Blood Orange | Aaron Terence Hughes." The scent drifts into other spheres for me than what the fragrance pyramid suggests. The longevity on my skin is around 12 hours with a rather moderate sillage.

The top note starts fruity-citrusy but rather indefinable with various citrus fruits. The blood orange barely comes through. It smells quite refreshing, green, spicy, and herbal with menthol, eucalyptus, and cardamom. This impression is accompanied in the heart note by a certain sweetness. The base then smells quite woody, balsamic, and again a bit green with amber, sandalwood, musk, and a hint of patchouli.

While Blood Orange did not disappoint me, it did surprise me quite a bit. I thank Nick for the sample.

Shampoo, Dish Soap, Shower Gel?
I discovered Blood Orange here a few days ago.
For a long time, I struggled with the scents from ATH.

Many descriptions and various videos on YouTube in English kept holding me back.

Too often, the scents are described as very quirky or peculiar.

Now that I have been able to test it for a few days, my opinion is divided.
On one hand, it stands out from all other fresh scents, which I like, but on the other hand, it takes on a soapy and slightly bitter note on my skin, reminding me of dish soap or, in my childhood days, a children's shampoo.

Of course, the outside temperatures are not really suitable for the scent, so I am curious to see how it performs on warm/hot days!

I find the longevity not justified for the original price, as it does not last long on my skin.

I am looking forward to the next tests of the brand!

The Better Orange
Blood Orange by Aaron Terence Hughes opens with an intense blend of tangerine, blood orange, and mandarin. The initial impression is briefly somewhat synthetic, but that quickly dissipates. Afterward, a zesty, realistic blood orange unfolds, appearing fresh, fruity, and slightly sweet.

In the heart, jasmine sambac and ambroxan combine to create a soft, almost creamy middle note that adds elegance to the fruitiness. The base of amber, patchouli, rose absolute, and a light skin accord rounds off the fragrance warmly without overshadowing the citrus freshness.

For me, Blood Orange operates in a completely different league than Orange Flamingo by Marc Gebauer. While the Flamingo initially comes off as an aggressive bathroom cleaner, Blood Orange delivers exactly what the name promises after a short time - the scent of a juicy blood orange.

Unfortunately discontinued, but anyone who finds a bottle from the older batches with a silver label should grab it. For me, it's a clear recommendation for all who appreciate fruity citrus scents with character.

Very authentic orange scent that starts off strong and quickly fades. Then it leaves musk, amber, and sandalwood - what a pity.

Fresh blood orange and its peel resting on the heater. A bit dusty with Ambroxan lurking in the background, blood orange remains dominant.

Blood orange is less fresh & instead more set in a woody-warm context with a hint of indolic jasmine. On my skin, it's rather weak.

Starts with a lot of alcohol, then a bit of orange citrus that disappears immediately. Something green-creamy takes over with Ambrox support...

Orange fragrance oil from Müller in a tealight diffuser. Disappointing but okay.

Nice zesty start with a natural blood orange. A hint of jasmine, then warmer, more robust, and for me, masculine. Too bad! H/S mediocre.

The blood orange at first 1:1. Then the scent drifts into a bold, noble, masculine vibe. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Give it a try.

The beginning is just how you imagine the scent: fruity, slightly bitter blood orange.
Unfortunately, it doesn't last long, then Ambroxan comes in, but still top-notch.

Realistic, slightly bitter blood orange. Really enjoyed it this summer. Unfortunately, the longevity isn't as good as usual for ATH.
