Simply superb!
Writing this review for the new ozone (2023). A masculine leaning unisex summer fragrance. This fragrance has one of the best scent trails I have ever experienced with more than 8+ hours of longevity. It opens with a blast of citrus with slightly minty undertones, as the top notes fade the coconut + ambroxan in the middle really shine. The mocha isn’t really noticeable but it’s definitely there… it adds a sort of depth to the fragrance which I really love. The coconut isn’t overly sweet or cloying unlike most coconut fragrances and is absolutely superb for somebody who is a fan of coconut! As the middle notes fade the ambergris and patchouli in the base really come forward with the saltiness of the driftwood in the background. This fragrance is very heavy on the ambergris so if you are not a fan of ambergris it is not for you! It’s not your typical summer scent. Notes are: Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Spearmint
Middle notes:
Ozone / Coconut / Mocha Accord / Ambroxan
Base notes:
Ethical Ambergris, White Musk, Driftwood, Patchouli. Projection: 8.5/10 (as stated earlier this fragrance has one of the best scent trails I have ever experienced not overly strong but just enough for everyone around to smell you and appreciate your scent!). Longevity: 8.8/10 (Still projects after 8+ hours of wear). Scent: 9.5/10, possibly one of my favourite fragrances of all time. Mass appeal: 7/10, I don’t really think this fragrance is mass appealing due to the unique combination of notes, I could see how some people might really dislike it. Overall: 9/10, One of the best fragrances from one of my favourite houses of all time, this is 1 of 4 Aaron Terence Hughes fragrances I own and will definitely not be my last! An absolute gem that’s very underrated!

A Lovely Fresh Summer Scent
I've enjoyed Ozone, by Aaron Terence Hughes, for the last few years. It was an immediately appealling, fresh, clean, long-lasting scent. A personal favourite of mine, and especially so in Summer, I find myself reaching for this most often. Though this is by no means boozy, it really reminds me of beach holidays with a Mojito cocktail in hand, which must be that lime and mint combo.

This year's (2023) release has a slight update, with some added bergamot. The opening has that juicy burst of citrus lime, mint, and ozonic quality, swiftly followed by the coconut and mocha notes. The combination is so appealing as it settles pleasantly into these elements over the following hours. The dry down period is really helped with the ambergris. Projection and sillage are excellent for me, and many people have commented to say just how nice it is. I congratulate Aaron on this, and his relaunch, as it must have been an enormous amount of work to switch his formulations to using different chemical/raw materials suppliers.

In comparison to the previous formulation, it is very close indeed (99% maybe), but I do notice the added bergamot throughout the wearing. If you liked the formulation before, I'm certain you will enjoy it even more.

I would certainly say it works best in warmer weather, but it's still perfectly fine if it is not that warm. I can vouch for it working well in a hot nightclub. I could recommend this for anyone really. Bottom line: buy this if you are seeking a fresh, clean, juicy summer scent, with cracking performance. Love it.

My summer fragrance 2024 and the comparison to Ozone 2020
Finally brought back from London by a friend, the Ozone 2023 from ATH transports me into a world dominated by a tangy, refreshing breeze from the very first spritz. That's how I feel when I come back from the barber on a Friday afternoon, my sides and beard are in place and I'm ready for the weekend.

The top note starts with an invigorating blend of mint and lemon, which immediately transports you away from the suffocating smog of summer in the big city. This minty, lemony freshness is complemented by delicate coconut accents that lend the fragrance a certain liveliness. Unlike "Torino21 | XerJoff", for example, where the citrus is at least a little overwhelming for me at the beginning.

For me, a slight minerality is added in the drydown, which gives the fragrance a certain masculinity and maturity.

For me, Ozone can be worn in summer for any occasion - whether for a fresh kick in the office or at a beach party. I think you can go for a blind buy here without hesitation, as I haven't met anyone so far who doesn't like the fragrance.

The sillage is really strong in the first 2-3 hours, but then decreases significantly.

-----

Thanks to a nice perfumer, I also got my hands on a bottling of the previous version from 2020. Compared to Ozone 2023, Ozone 2020 is slightly softer in its overall effect. The aquatic notes are still present, but with less intensity, which makes the fragrance softer overall. The fresh minerality, which plays a central role in Ozone 2023, recedes somewhat into the background in Ozone 2020, which makes the fragrance seem a little sweeter in my opinion.

From Hawaiian beaches // a broken bottle?
I ordered this fragrance on Maxaroma shortly before a two-week trip to Hawaii.

When I arrived in Hawaii, on the very first day, I went for a walk on the beach at 5:50 in the morning to watch the sunrise. I imagined what the ozone would smell like - salty ocean freshness, sweet morning air, creamy salty driftwood and the sweet smell of coconuts. I realized that this was almost exactly the smell I had in my nose at that moment on the beach. Full of anticipation, I took one deep breath after another, sucking in what felt like all the air on the beach. I was dreaming, raving; about the beautiful sunrise, the olfactory overstimulation, about the ozone of my dreams. A short time later, I found a coconut, which I painstakingly opened on a stone in the remaining red of the sunrise and then tasted - this gave me the coconut smell that I had previously been missing from my olfactory analysis of the beach. The perfect ozone had been created.

When I returned from Hawaii two weeks later, I enthusiastically picked up the package from a neighbor and opened it in my bedroom. I immediately sprayed on the fragrance.

...it was different to how I imagined it on the beach. At first, the driftwood and fresh sea breeze stayed away. Instead, a strong citrus note was in the foreground at the beginning. This was followed by a sweet, slightly synthetic coconut. In the DD, the fragrance went in a (still) coconutty, mocha-esque and slightly mineral-woody direction with a small dose of ambergris.

Even though the fragrance didn't live up to my dream of the beaches of Hawaii, it has become one of the absolute favorites in my collection. It's a true work of art that can still be worn every day and goes down extremely well with people; the very first day I wore it, my doctor commented on how great I smelled today...only my mother can't stand the scent (like so much of the perfume I wear) so dear Mr. Ozone stays in the closet when I visit her.

The only thing I don't really like about the fragrance is the bottle; it occasionally leaks a little. However, this is the only one of the three ATH bottles I own that has this problem. Therefore, I don't think that the problem will occur with many - I usually rate the other bottles of the brand with an 8.

The fragrance lasts extremely long on the skin for a summery scent, like everything from dear Aaron, and radiates a good meter in the air. It's not a room filler, but that's a good thing in my opinion; you don't have to be able to use everything to fumigate a wasps' nest.

If you find a way to buy Ozone, or any other ATH fragrance, keep in mind that Aaron also makes the scents in 10ml bottles. I would definitely recommend buying one of these bottles, especially for Aaron's slightly more spaced out, fetishistic fragrances such as Luna (2023).

I hope my review has convinced one or two people to take a closer look at Aaron Terence Hughes and support his company. Have a nice evening.
